  • Proof of being born in the USA.?

My mother on her death bed has told me I was actually born in the USA and flown to the UK at a couple of days old and only registered here. I know (well been told) I wasn t born at a hospital and was born "unaided". My UK records show I wasn t born at any UK hospital. Is there anyway of finding out if this is true? I was born in 1971... how long did my parents have to register me in America? Is it possible I was flown home unregistered back then?

    Very confused.

  • is american money "always" money?

in the UK when a new design is made and a new style note/ coin is rolled out the old and new are both used together until all the old are recalled. a grace period is given of a few years (for people to cash savings in jars ect) then the old is no longer legal tender and cannot be spent.

it may be a myth but ive heard that for example a one dollar note is always a one dollar note and not ever fully taken out of currency when replaced... is that true? obviously when an old note reaches a bank and is torn it gets replaced for a new one but if you had $1 from 1900 could it legally be spent?

  • Baby kitten... What would you do?

We have a local stray cat. We know it's a stray and is tolerated and fed at winter...

Two weeks ago it gave birth to two kittens in our garden. She abandoned one in the last few days, we have since took it in and are trying to hand rear it.

What shall I do about the other? If I leave it the kitten will become another stray...

Cat charities are not interested in helping.

Shall I try to get it now (when mums away) and while kitten is still friendly or leave it a few weeks (till it could be nasty but bit bigger) or leave it for ever?!?!

I'm leaning towards getting it now...

  • Should believers be allowed to sit on a jury?

After all, they have already shown their complete lack of ability to come to an informed decision based on rational thought and available evidence...

  • Gun Murders per 100,000?

Who are the idiots spouting "UKs murder rates are higher than the US" or "people in the UK are just murdered with knives..."???

The US has a 4.8 per 100,000 murder rate (all types)

The UK has 1.2 per 100,000 (all types)

If the UK is a one million times more violent society I'd accept that and stay alive instead of a 3 times higher murder rate.

You want your guns then by all means keep them but don't make up statistics attempting to prove a point.

  • What is the connection between snow globes and father christmas?

I watched the "Santa clause" series of films and they obviously have a magic snow globe but thought nothing of it. Then today I watched "the magic Christmas" (1980) and that has one in it too... I've then looked on line and realised they are advertised in stores everywhere. But I can't find any information why.

What is the link? Anyone know where the connection comes in/ started or how long it's been going???

I know it's not the most important thing but something I'd like to know!

    Thanks

    :-)

  • Does yahoo auto censor bad language?

I wrote in another comment a quote which ended with the line with the meaning you can't scratch your bum. I actually wrote a far less offensive word than what I could have used. The one I did use is a three letter word and a type of horse. It was automatically changed to ***... So who did that? Automatic or a real person? If I re write the line again here will it be changed again???

"you can rule with an iron fist but it's very hard to scratch your ***!" (????)

"thou shalt not covert thy neighbours ox, ***, or wife" (did either change???)

  • Should I do as my generals say or what I think?

I'm just in the final stages of mopping up the French, the British are a spent force on the continent and America has it's head in the sand. Now I'm up for mounting a huge attack on the soviet union rather than a swift invasion of England...

After all it'll be years before the British could get back up on their feet and Russia could be knocked out by Christmas.

I'm getting grief off "know it all generals"

    Any ideas or suggestions?

  • Question on the American draft?

I believe that in the American draft (vietnam at least) people were selected by birth date... Does that mean that everyone in an intake shared the same day (maybe even month/year) of birth? Or was it just "month" of birth?

How many were selected from that day/ month before another batch was selected? or for sake of argument was every available male born on 01/01/1950 conscripted but no one from 01/02/1950? Or all of November but none of December???

    Hope that makes sense...

  • If heaven is so great....?

Couldn't we invent a little machine that kills people nice and young so everyone just goes straight to heaven for disco disco party time and not waste time down here? That would stop the suicide "can't get into heaven" small print or stop others doing it and being classed as murderers???

  • What exactly is a "troll"?

And I don't mean the ones living under bridges eating goats...

I get the rough idea that it's someone who says things just to wind people up but it appears to be different at different times???

  • The roman army at it's best...?

Imagine the best little roman army, 3 or so legions, fully manned and equipped.

What is the latest time in history they could have been victorious in battle? A legion advancing on a napolionic line may have been interesting if they could have covered the musket range quick enough To unleash a volley of pilum (the Zulus managed it after all!) Then out with the gladius...

Or would medieval long bows or napolians cannon have cancelled out roman tactics long before they got a look in?

I believe (from where I don't know) the last "roman" army to be defeated was Constantinople in the 1450s...

    Any ideas???

  • Want to join my religion?

Thanks to all the kind assistance (an exercise in theory rather than being labled) I am and will always be just plain old "timmy"

I now know myself to be an "agnostic atheist" which I thought was a Micky take initially till I looked at those charts ;-)

So I'm thinking of forming a religion that I could corrupt and put myself in charge of, write a good book and be worshipped...

I could do with a few deciple types then some lower saints if anyone fancies joining me in paradise???

  • Am I atheist or agnostic?

I'm the biggest non believer in a god in the whole wide world but consider myself an agnostic.

On the evidence I see I do not think a god exists. BUT in an infinite universe I cannot rule out the possibility (however small) that their may be one.

So, with a rational outlook isn't anyone who says they don't believe 100% with no evidence, (and yes I know you can't prove a negative...) as much working on "faith" rather than fact? I think even Dawkins said he was only 99.99% atheist as to completely rule god out was un scientific...

So am I really agnostic or atheist?

Example... I don't hold an opinion one way or another about say, life on mars, so I do not believe there is or there isn't. I understand that is the dictionary definition of atheist.

If I looked at the evidence and thought there wasn't I believe that is the commonly understood definition which is subtly but importantly different...

I believe anyone with any real common sense is agnostic not atheist... Is that Right or wrong???

  • doberman with awful "gas"?

my doberman is a big boy. hes 9 years old now and always fed on the same food (high quality total mix) granted he has treats and odds and sods of left overs but this is always been the case. he went onto "senior" food as reccomended at 7. he is fit, runs with me and active. not over weight.

however over the last few months he has developed an awfully smelly rear end (he is actually sitting next to me gassing the room out right now!). his poo is normal.... any ideas? old age maybe?

i have heard that dobermans are known for this but never noticed it quite this bad.

  • what was hitlers biggest mistake?

    firstly, forget the politics....

was there any chance that WW2 could have been won by germany? if so, what decision (with hindsight) cost the war? maybe a different set of allies? not declaring war on USA? invading britain? russia????

maybe he did nothing wrong and he played his hand well but just had a weaker hand???
