I think I am unqualified for a journalism internship (since I haven't been a journalism major), but I would really like to take this internship because I have undertaken things in the past that I have had no experience with and come to love them. Plus, writing is one of my passions. How could I include in my essay something that summarizes this?

I am preparing to write my capstone for my Spanish degree, and I want to tie in the situation with gay marriage in Spain (since I studied abroad there). What are some topics I could research for a long research paper (8+ pages)? I'd appreciate any ideas that could generate a paper, instead of just basically writing about gay marriage. I am a third-year student majoring in Spanish; I am technically ahead and just have to complete my classes for my Spanish degree (which will only take about a year). I plan to go to graduate school but for something other than Spanish, mainly because I am not sure I would like to go into a career related strictly to Spanish (such as teaching, translating, etc.).
