  • Will we ever see another Final Four like 1979?

Everybody remembers Magic & Bird, but will we ever see another mix like: Indiana State - Missouri Valley Champ, Penn - Ivy League Champ, DePaul - Independent, and Michigan State - Big Ten? If so, who are likely participants?

  • What the heck has happened to the SIU Salukis?

The Salukis were picked by many to finish second in the Valley. They are sliding off the map instead. What's going on in Carbondale?

  • The "Administrator" says Trojan Detected?

Yahoo sent this email to my bulk box:

    Sender: Administrator

    Subject: Trojan Detected

    "Adminsitrator"< kdkk@egroups.com

Our robot has detected an abnormal activity from your IP adress [sic] on sending e-mails. Probably it is connected with the last epidemic of a worm which doesn't have official patches at the moment.

We recommend you to install this patch to remove worm files and stop email sending, otherwise your account will be blocked.

Is someone trying to send me a trojan horse by opening "this patch", or do I need to open it to prevent something. I've never seen this egroups thing before.

  • Is going to the Bulls the death knell for a post player?

The Bulls biggest need for the next year is to find a scorer in the post. But for many years, the Bulls have lacked a true offensive presence in the post. In fact, the last major post scorer might have been ... Artis Gilmore? Eddy Curry was regularly lambasted in Chicago, yet is averaging more than 20 ppg for the Knicks? Will the Bulls ever obtain a post player who can be successful in Chicago? And who would or could that be?

  • Should the St. Louis University Billikens leave the A-10 for the Missouri Valley?

Since hiring Majerus as their coach, the discussion of leaving the A-10 for the Valley has arisen in order to raise the level of the Billikens program. The Billikens were previously Valley members for 36 years. Would returning to the Valley be a benefit to the Billikens basketball program? To the Valley? How about the A-10? And in other sports?

And what the heck is a Billiken?

  • Does anyone think that Chicago's proposed Olympic stadium in Washington Park could be a liability?

Chicago has done a wonderful job of setting forth an Olympic proposal which should attract a lot of interest from the IOC. Using Washington Park for the stadium is a fine connection to the World Fair based in Jackson Park, Washington Park's sister to the east.

The two parks are connected with a wide greenway, which runs through the University of Chicago campus. Stagg Field, the UC's football stadium, is immediately adjacent to Washington Park, and in the UC's Big Ten days (prior to WWII) Stagg Field sat 50,000+ fans. So a stadium would be appropriate in Washington Park.

But an Olympic stadium? Stagg Field is also known as the location of the very first atomic reaction, which could attract many negative aspects to the construction of the Olympic stadium. I could see the Olympic stadium attracting protestors, and even terrorists, to the UC campus because of this tie.

Is Washington Park a potential liability for an Olympic stadium?

  • Who do you believe is the greatest all-around athlete in college sports history?

Many great athletes have excelled at the collegiate level. Who do you think is the greatest all-around college athlete ever, and why?

    My pick to beat:

    Dike Eddleman, Illinois.

    11 Varsity letters.

Played in the Rose Bowl (1947), Final Four (1949), and Olympic Track & Field (1948).

Leading scorer, Illinois' first final four team.

Still holds Illinois football records for longest punts (88 & 86 yards).

Silver medal, High Jump, 1948 Olympics.

Who do you put up against him?

  • How can Illinois sign five basketball players for next year when they currently have 9 returnees on rides?

The NCAA allows 13 scholarships for basketball. Illinois had 12 clearly scholarship players last year (Frazier, Smith, Meachem, McBride, Brock, Pruitt, Carlwell, Jackson, Carter, Arnold, Semrau, Randle) and 3 others (Hicks - walkon, Holdren - transfer S. Dakota St., Wise - transfer Indiana St.). They have five players signed for the fall - McCarney, Cole, Watkins, Tisdale from high school and one Juco transfer in Alexander. But only three seniors are leaving.

My basic math now counts 14 players on scholarship, the 9 returnees and the five new signees. But there are only 13 rides. How?

Is Meachem reverting back to preferred walkon status with Holden & Wise? Did Weber push Jackson across the street to Ron Zook to get him on a football ride? Do we have players on partial scholarships?

  • What is the best group of starting college linebackers ever on a single team - one season?

Many Universities have called themselves "Linebacker U". What do you think is the best group of college linebackers starting together ever? My squad to beat is Illinois 1994:

Dana Howard, Middle Linebacker, '94 Butkus Winner

Kevin Hardy, Drop Linebacker, '95 Butkus Winner, Top 3 pick in '96 Draft

Simeon Rice, Rush Linebacker, Top 3 Pick in '96 Draft

John Holecek, Middle Linebacker, Longtime NFL Star

Does anyone think they can come up with a better group of starters in one season? Now if Ron Zook could only recruit another group like that one!!!!!!! Go Illini!
