Has anyone read J.K. Rowling's The Casual Vacancy?

What did you think of it? I am currently reading it, and while I do enjoy it, there's something about it to where I can only read so much of it at a time. Most of the time once I start a book, I can't put it down until I'm done, I've been working on this book for a few days not, and there's just something about it that gets me easily distracted. Did anyone else feel like this as well?

If not what was your overall opinion of the book? Favorite character?

One of my favorite characters is Krystal Weedon. I just find her back story very interesting.

George and...

Fred Weasley’s funeral had finally ended. His parents, friends, and siblings had all attended. It was a beautiful service, but there were many tears shed. Fred was a very likeable person. He, along with his twin brother George, was big practical joker. He was a cheerful person, who did not deserve to die at such a young age. However, he died a hero’s death. He died in an explosion that had occurred during the Battle of Hogwarts.

Once everyone else left it was only the family, along with Harry and Hermione that had stayed behind at the Burrow. Mrs. Weasley had locked herself in her room and was refusing to come out. Mr. Weasley, Bill, Charlie, and Percy were all in the process of trying to clean up the house. They worked silently; no one wanted to say anything. Harry and Hermione did their best comfort Ginny and Ron. Ginny was crying, and Ron was simply silent.

George walked around the yard with tears streaming down his face. He had lost his twin, his brother, and his best friend all at once. He didn’t know what to do. He was upset, angry, hurt, frustrated, and everything else all at once. It was like he had lost his sense of identity. He was so used to being Fred and George or George and Fred – people always had trouble telling them apart – and now he was just George.

As George walked around the yard, he saw a figure walking towards him. It was Harry.

“Hi,” said Harry.

“Hi,” said George.

“How are you – I mean are you,” Harry stuttered trying to find the right words to say. “I’m sorry.”

“Me too,” said George.

“Do you think you’ll continue on with the joke shop?” asked Harry.

“Yeah, I will,” said George. “Although, it’ll be very different.”

“I'm sure it will,” said Harry. “But, I just wanted to say, that I think the joke shop is one way to keep him alive ya know?”

George had never really thought of it like that. George certainly loved the joke shop, and it was something that he and Fred and worked so hard on. He would have to keep it open; he wouldn’t let Fred down. “Yeah, you’re right.”

“Well, uh, I better get back inside,” said Harry.

“Yeah, alright,” said George. “Oh and thanks. For everything. I won’t forget that you’re the one who allowed me and Fred to finally start our joke shop. You gave us our start up money, so if you ever need anything or want anything from there you’ll welcome to anything you like.”

“You’re welcome,” said Harry.

He walked back inside and found Ron and Hermione sitting in a corner alone. He walked up to them and sat down. The three of them had been through so much together. They’d gone through countless challenges, through life and loss, and the trials of friendship, but no matter what they always seemed to come out on top.

“Thanks for staying guys,” said Ron.

“Well neither one of us really has anywhere else to go,” said Hermione. “My parents are still in Australia not knowing about me, and well the Dursley’s have left Privet Drive, but I doubt Harry wants to go back to them anyways.”

“Oh right,” said Ron.

“But even if we did have somewhere else to be you know there’s nowhere else that we’d rather be than with you,” said Hermione.

“Yeah, we’re here for you. Anything you need,” said Harry.

Ron looked at Harry and Hermione. They had been friends for so long, but everything was changing now. He and Hermione fancied each other, and Harry fancied Ginny. Maybe this would be the thing that would tear the three of them apart. Ron didn’t want anything to jeopardize their friendship. He also didn’t like the idea of his little sister being with anyone, but if she had to be with someone he was just happy that it was someone he trusted. Someone like Harry.

“Harry,” said Ron. “There is one thing I need.”

“Sure, anything,” said Harry.

“Take care of Ginny for me,” said Ron.

Harry was shocked. Ron had never really shown approval towards him and Ginny.

“She’s going to need you. She likes to pretend that she’s so tough and nothing can upset her, but I know she’s very upset over Fred,” said Ron. “So just go to her. She’s in her room and she could really use you.”

“Thanks,” said Harry. He quickly went upstairs to find Ginny.

Harry knocked on the door, but there was no answer. He tried again, and still no answer. Finally he decided to just open the door. Ginny was curled up in a ball on her bed.

“Hey Ginny,” said Harry as he walked towards the bed.

“Harry, I’ve already told Ron and Hermione that I don’t want to talk to anyone,” said Ginny.

Harry sat down next to her and grabbed her hand. He pulled her towards him, and moved her bright red hair out of her face. “Ginny, please talk to me.”

“Harry,” said Ginny. “I don’t want to talk. I just want Fred!”

As Severus heard his parents yelling from the kitchen, he thought to himself, only two more days. It was only two more days until he would once again board the Hogwarts express and be whisked away to Hogwarts to begin his third year there. Not that he was well liked there, but at least he had a few friends, who had started calling themselves Death Eaters, and there was of course the lovely Lily Evans.

“Hey mum, do you want –“ started Severus.

“Not now, I’m busy trying to talk to your father!” yelled Eileen Prince, Severus’ mother. “Tobias, don’t you walk out again! Don’t!”

Tobias waved his hand at his wife and grumbled something as he stormed out of the house slamming the door behind him. Eileen threw her hands up in frustration and then retreated back to her bedroom.

Severus’ parents fought a lot of the time, and his father was very neglectful. Even though Severus was now thirteen, his father had no problem using a belt on him as punishment.

Severus then stood alone in the kitchen. He had hoped to show his parents his new – well second hand – school books. Since his mother was a witch he had hoped that she would be interested, but it seemed that the only thing that ever interested her was arguing with her husband.

Severus sat down at the table and just stared off into space for a while. He was excited to return to King’s Cross train station and board the train to Hogwarts. While his books and robes were all second hand, Lily never cared. He had befriended her before their first year at Hogwarts and she was very nice. He wished that she was a her house now, but she was away on holiday, and would not return until sometime tomorrow, the day before they would leave for Hogwarts.

Severus slowly walked back to his own room and began to pack his school trunk. He packed up his books, robes, parchment, cauldron, dragon hide gloves, scales, ink and quills. Almost everything he had was second hand. Some of his robes were too long, while others were too short. He packed everything except his wand, and the set of robes that he would change into on the train.

It was late, and he decided that he would just get to bed. The sooner this day ended the sooner the next could begin, and that would make it closer till he could leave for Hogwarts.

Lily Evans was having a wonderful time on holiday. Her parents had taken Lily and her sister Petunia to France.

“Tuney! I’m sad to be leaving here tomorrow. I’ve had such a marvelous time,” said Lily as she plopped down next to her sister.

The two girls shared a bed in the hotel room. Mr. Evans had gone out to pick up something to eat, while Mrs. Evans was in the bathroom fixing her hair.

“It has been fun,” said Petunia.

“But I'm so excited to get home so that I can pack all my things. I can’t wait to go back to Hogwarts,” said Lily.

Petunia rolled her eyes at this comment. She was envious of her sister – not that she would admit it. She hated when Lily talked about her magic school and spells and all the other odd things that went along with it. She also hated how her parents were so proud of Lily and her being a witch. Lily was her parents’ pride and joy.

“Lily dear, what time do you need to be at Kings Cross?” asked Mrs. Evans.

“Well the train leaves at eleven, so maybe we should get there about half an hour before then,” said Lily.

“Alright,” said Mrs. Evans. “I still can’t believe we have a witch in the family! Who would have guessed it?! It’s so exciting; isn’t it Petunia?”

Petunia quietly shook her head.

“Hope you’re all hungry!” said Mr. Evans as he walked into the hotel room.

He set out the food on the desk in the corner. Each member of the Evans family grabbed something to eat and then found a place to sit. They were all chattering away about how wonderful their holiday had been. They talked about plans for the next summer, and of course, Lily’s being a witch.

Petunia sat in a chair quietly as she listened to her parents go on and on about Lily. She loved her sister, but at the same time she was very spiteful towards her.

After they finished eating, the Evans’ family packed up their bags so that they would be prepared to leave tomorrow morning.

The next morning Severus was awoken by the loud sound of his father stumbling in drunk and angry. He must have knocked something over as he walked into the house. Severus shot out of bed to see what had happened.

As he walked into the kitchen he saw that his father had knocked down the glass bowl that sat on the small table in the center of the kitchen. The glass had shattered everywhere. When his mother walked in she began having her usual fit. She screamed at her husband for staying out all night, and he threw the broom at her tell her to clean up the mess.

I've heard that you can check what grade level you are writing at on Microsoft word. I have the 2007 version does anyone know how to do this, because I can't figure it out.

My boyfriend and I aren't trying for kids or anything yet, but I love the name Isabella for a girl. I've always loved that name, the only problem is my boyfriends oldest sister has a daughter named Isabella.

When my boyfriend and I get married and decide to have kids, would it be wrong of me to use the name Isabella, even though his sister's daughter has the same name?

This is the first fan fiction I've ever written, and I was wondering what you think. This isn't the whole thing, just the very beginning. So opinions on it would be great, and any suggestions would be awesome too!

It had been several years since the Battle of Hogwarts. Ginny and Harry had since been dating. Although they would never be completely recovered from everything that happened, things had gotten a lot easier. It took Ginny about a year before she stopped crying for Fred on nearly a daily basis. Harry also mourned the loss of all those who fought alongside him. Teddy Lupin, Harry’s godson, was also a constant reminder of the loss of Tonks and Remus.

Young Teddy, who was now seven years old, was living with Harry in a small house that he, Ron, and Arthur Weasley had all built on the outskirts of the Burrow. Harry wanted his own house, but he still wanted to be close to the Weasley’s who had been like his family since he was eleven years old.

Teddy Lupin still hadn’t begun to question about never being with his parents, because Harry was more than enough. Harry however, knew that one day he would have to tell Teddy the tragic but heroic tale of his parent’s death.

Harry was getting ready to have Ron and Hermione over for dinner. They had already been married for a little over a year. Hermione had refused to move into the burrow with Ron, so like Harry, they had their own small house on the outskirts of the Burrow. The friends usually met up for dinner at least twice a week, and Teddy loved seeing Hermione perform all sorts of magic. She would make fireworks, and make Teddy’s toy soldiers move around.

Harry finally heard a knock on the door, and hastily went to answer it.

“Hey Harry!” said Ron as he walked into the house.

“Hi Harry!” said Hermione as she walked into the house, and gave Harry a hug.

“Hey, Ron, Hermione, come sit. Food is already on the table,” said Harry. “And Teddy is starving so if we don’t hurry he might eat it all.”

When the three walked into the dining room, young Teddy already had his hands on two bread rolls. He smiled as Harry gave him a stern look.

“Teddy, you’re supposed to wait until everyone is seated to begin eating,” said Harry.

“But I’m hungry!” said Teddy.

“Oh Harry calm down,” said Ron as he sat down and began stuffing his face.

Harry laughed because some things, in spite of everything that had happened, never change. Hermione rolled her eyes. She knew Ron ate like a pig, but she loved him no matter what. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Teddy ate until they were completely stuffed. Once they were finished Hermione helped Harry clean up the table and put a spell on the dishes and soap so they would wash themselves. Harry loved when she did that.

I'm confused. When a guy gives the engagement ring is that the same ring the girls wear for the wedding ring and you just add the wedding band after? Or do you get a completely different ring for your wedding ring? Or is it up to the couple? I'm just not really sure. Can someone please explain how this works?

I've recently been thinking that I'd like to start making YouTube videos. I've always loved clothes, so I've been thinking about maybe doing a fashion channel, but I'm not sure. Would it be pointless to try and make videos? If I decide to do so do y'all have any suggestions?

I would like to get on a Bible reading plan this summer, but I don't know of a good one, or where to start. Any ideas or suggested plans would be helpful.

I'm 17 and I just cant wait till I can get married and have kids of my own. My boyfriend and I agree that we both want to get married, and he wants to wait a while, but I would get married as soon as I'm 18 if I could. I know it's not really practical so obviously I'll wait until we're are both out of college (Im going to be a college freshman he'll be a college sophomore this year) but is it bad that I want to get married so young? He's already bought me a promise ring, because we both love each other. Do you think it would be wrong of me to try and convince my boyfriend to get married before we get out of college?

I feel like I carry a lot of weight in my stomach. What type of excercise can I do to lose weight in my stomach area. Also what are some good ways to tone my thighs becausse some of my weight is there too?

I'm a 17 year old female and I'm about 5'4/ 5'5 and about 120 pounds. Is this a good weight? Or am I over weight?
