Gen. Stiggo (Atheati-in-Chief)
I'm a 44 year old husband and father of the sweetest girl in the world (I've got the papers here somewhere). I'm a liberal atheist because I also happen to be a rational person. Except I'm also a fan of the Mets, Jets, Rangers and Knicks, so maybe I'm not always that rational.
If you are a theist, how would you explain God appearing out of nothing?
He must have started at some point, and there was no God to create him, so where'd he come from?
18 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIf we could not perceive something, and it had no impact on our lives, why would we care if it existed?
Whether it is color to a blind species, or taste to a species without a sense of taste, or god in a universe where you cannot show that a god exists, why would anyone care whether or not such things existed? If they effectively do not exist, isn't it sensible to say they do not exist? Isn't this guy making a great argument for atheism?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs a released player considered to be a free agent?
I'm just wondering about how it works in the NFL. I know they are free to sign with any team they want, but are they called free agents under the rules? I ask because the teams that made it to the Conference Championships can't sign free agents unless one of their own is signed by someone else. So if they release a player and he is signed, does that allow them to sign a free agent? Likewise, are they prevented from signing released players unless one of their own released/free agents is signed first?
7 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoSince crystals are pretty simple in form, does that mean they weren't intelligently designed?
We keep having creationists tell us that the complexity of humans and, presumably, other living things, shows that there must have been a designer who created us. Does the relative simplicity of crystalline structures indicate that they were not designed? Or do the rules that apply to some things not apply to others?
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson came from American Idol, why is there still American Idol?
I'm asking this not only to point out the foolishness of creationist arguments, but, more importantly, to ask why this show is still on the air.
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoesn't it prove that the Torah is true since it won an Olympic gold medal?
They don't give those out to fairy tales, do they?
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs it possible that Corinthians was written at a time when women had no rights?
I'm going out on a limb here, I know. But is there any chance that, rather than being the inerrant word of god saying women can't preach, it was just something written by a man at a time when women were basically property?
20 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhere does it say specifically that we have to believe in God/Jesus before we die to avoid hell?
Those who believe say that our souls are the same as our selves. Many also say that if we don't believe in God and/or Jesus, we (our souls) will be sentenced to hell. But once that happens, clearly we would believe in the existence of God and/or Jesus. So where does it say that the belief has to happen before death? Otherwise, it seems as though anyone sent to hell for not believing would get out pretty quickly.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan music save your mortal soul?
Another one from my Friday question bag.
And yes, this was the suggested category.
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDid anyone show up to work in New Orleans today?
Considering that NO residents consider it a reason to party if it happens to be, say, Thursday, I can't imagine anyone in the city being able to put in a day's work this fine post-Super Bowl Monday.
6 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoDoes the fact that Obama's mispronunciation of a word wasn't headline news prove the media is liberal?
Surely this should have been the banner headline of every newspaper and top story on every news channel, and yet, for no good reason, it wasn't. Isn't this the final proof that the media is controlled by liberal elitists?
15 AnswersPolitics1 decade agoSpiritually speaking, how sorry do you think Yahoo really is that there's nothing here right now?
If they were actually sorry about it, don't you think they'd fix that stupid glitch?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCan someone please ask who is going to win the Super Bowl?
I've been just dying to give my opinion on it, but nobody seems to care enough to ask this very interesting and unique question.
12 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoIf Jesus was really Jewish, why didn't he get a lawyer?
I'm sure he had a cousin or a friend who was a lawyer.
Yes, there were lawyers defending people who were facing crucifixion. Where do you think the expression "his lawyer got him off" comes from?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs anyone else getting the message box pop up every time they answer or ask a question?
OK, I click the box that says not to show me this message every single time, but it keeps coming up. Anyone know how I stop it?
3 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoIs there anything sadder in the NFL than the Lions never being in the Super Bowl?
The Saints were the only team that Detroit could look at and take some measure of comfort. But now, all the other non-Super Bowl teams are expansion teams from the 90's on. How embarrassing is it for an original NFL franchise to never have been able to put together at least a strong post-season run to get to the big game? If the Seahawks, Bengals and Falcons could get there, how bad over the past 40+ years must the Lions be?
10 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoIf the Vikings are trailing at halftime, will Favre retire in the locker room?
How much of a deficit will it take for him to hold a tearful press conference while his team is getting ready to go back out?
12 AnswersFootball (American)1 decade agoWhy are there still theists?
You should get up and move around, don't be so still. It's good for your circulation, and you'll feel better after some exercise.
