  • Help! I'm going to have my period on my wedding day!?

    I'm getting married next month and my period is due the day before the wedding - worst timing ever! I'm not on the pill and never have been so that's out, but I'm wondering is there something natural I can do to hold it off for a few days? There must be some type of food or concoction of some kind that I can try? I'd even be grateful for an old wives tale!

  • Do I need a pap smear test?

    I'm 27 and have never had one, and I'm getting married soon so I figure I should go get one to make sure everything's ok before we start making babies - I was just looking it up and I read that you shouldn't get one till you've been having sex for a few years; I was a virgin until about a year and a half ago so... should I not get it?

  • I need to get a transit visa to pass through the UK on my way to Ireland?

    The UKBA website is pretty confusing, I can't find what I need to do to get the visa - there's an option to search for the forms you need but of course it's not as simple as looking for a form called Transit Visa; you have to know the number of the form! And the Contact Us page is no help either as every single question seems to have a different place you have to go, and again none of the options seem to apply to me! Help!

  • I don't know much about cameras and really need help with my Nikon D40!?

    Somehow my photos have ended up as NEF files instead of JPEGs - I'm trying to upload my holiday photos to facebook, when I connect my camera to my laptop it only recognises that there are four photos on my SD card; these four are actually JPEGs, and when I look at them on the camera they say 'Normal 3008x2000' in the bottom right hand corner, whereas the NEFs just say 'RAW'. How can I convert them all to JPEGs so that they can be uploaded?

  • I want to bring my Gambian boyfriend to Ireland for a holiday?

    I'm not working right now so I can't sponsor him, so my parents are going to do it. As part of all the documents etc. that we have to provide to immigration, we have to provide evidence of how they (my parents and my boyfriend) know each other. They haven't met yet so don't know each other personally, so my question is: As I'm the connection between the two parties, is it ok to provide evidence of a) how I know my parents and b) how I know my boyfriend - thereby 'linking' the two? (Also, if it helps, my parents have to provide a letter of invitation, so in that letter they'll be saying how he's their daughter's boyfriend and they want to bring him to Ireland to meet him and get to know him etc.)

  • Pros and cons of cutting your own hair?

    I've really long hair and was thinking of chopping about half of it off when I wash it and have the conditioner in, so it'll be all wet and silky and straight (my hair's REALLY curly!). I've heard that doing it yourself is a bad idea because the scissors aren't proper hair-dresser scissors?

  • Do you like this poem that I wrote?

    Comfortably I continue

    On in my endeavours,

    Romantic ideas banished for the

    Moment from my mind;

    I take the time to

    Count my blessings in disguise.

    Gone is my former

    Fairy-tale self -

    Forgotten,

    For now disabled.

    The beginning is nigh and

    I am unafraid.

  • What do you think of this poem I wrote?

    The fire twinkles in the dark

    As the humanity is burned away

    And I plunge deeper

    Into my concrete casket of death,

    A calm commotion hidden inside me.

    They wonder about my

    Particular type of innocence

    And ask why,

    But I run

    Wild and free,

    Without the answers.

  • Do you like my poem? Any thoughts are welcome!?

    The first two lines are from one of my favourite songs, I used them to start me off :)

    I wish I had a river

    I could skate away on;

    Leave all my troubles behind

    And forget the mistakes I've made.

    I wish I had an ocean

    I could sail away on;

    So that I wouldn't have to

    Be reminded every day

    Of what I've done.

    I wish I had a cloud

    I could float away on;

    Leave my worries on

    The ground below,

    Just let them flow

    Out of my mind.

    I wish I had a horse

    I could ride away on;

    Off into the sunset

    Where serenity lives,

    And the night sky gives

    A second chance.

  • What do you think of my winter-themed Lune poem?

    A cold wind

    Snakes through my bedroom window -

    Involuntary shivers tingle

  • What do you think of this poem I wrote?

    On a limb,

    A body that can't swim,

    No-one can

    Save me... so I sink.

    I reach for

    The sky, arms don't lie,

    Fatigue overtakes me,

    I ask the universe why.

    My lungs drown

    As the sun goes down,

    Legs like concrete,

    In clothes they are bound.

    Will is strong

    But only serves to prolong

    The inevitable outcome;

    The end of my song.

    I begin to

    Feel numb, my body succumbs,

    The end is

    In sight... I'm struck dumb.

    Now my bond

    To the Earth is gone;

    Happy and free,

    From my shell I abscond.

  • How do you like my newest creation?

    The corpse

    Glances fearfully about,

    Death's files are all around.

    A curious wonder

    Burns in the place where

    A heart used to be,

    But where there is

    Now only a

    Frightening contortion

    Of torn muscle

    And a runny red stream;

    Life liquified...

    Bones crack dryly

    In the dark

    Of a forever night's despair.

  • What do you think of my poem?

    The gathered crowd

    Mourns mechanically

    As it looks upon the

    Face that speaks no more.

    He caught his death

    While asleep in the river -

    No sporadic violence

    Nor an unjust hand; he was

    Simply swept away.

  • "Keep refrigerated and use within 3 days" - what can I do if...?

    ...there's no way I'm going to get it used within three days? It's a jar of curry sauce - I only use a couple of tablespoons mixed in with my rice!

  • Do you like my latest poem?

    I can hear a watch ticking;

    It moves upon

    My wrist, the gist

    Of time passes by

    Without permission or consent,

    Whether or not we are content

    To allow it to

    Slip away from us.

    I stare at the clock on the wall,

    Unsafe in the knowledge

    That these minutes

    Will not come around again -

    I will not get a second chance

    To make something of them -

    They will not be reborn

    Afresh, unwasted.

  • Do you think this poem is any good? (I wrote it)?

    All is defeat

    As I sink into the comfort

    Of my silent, anonymous grave;

    My heart whispers the answers

    To my deaf companions

    And shows the proof

    To the empty sockets

    In the neighbourhood,

    And the chance to defer

    Does not occur

    Until the deadline has past.

  • Do you like my poem? Any thoughts are welcome!?

    An ancient dust descends

    Upon the dead room

    And blots out the sun

    In favour of a dread gloom,

    A spiderweb here and there

    For decoration.

    And the bodies on the floor,

    Innocent of the crime

    For which they were committed

    To this deathly place,

    Cannot speak now,

    They cannot protest their ignorance,

    They cannot howl at the night sky

    Seeking salvation from sin...

    They cannot.

  • I emailed my CV to a potential employer yesterday and they emailed me back today saying...?

    ...that they couldn't open the attachment and could I "resend it in Microsoft Word format of in HTML format"! I don't even know what that means, never mind how to do it! So a) how do I do that? and b) what's wrong with it the way it is, why can't they open it?
