  • Direct tv DVR problems!?

OK this DVR was supposed to make recording my fav shows easier!

I have my dvr set to record Heros - so right now its recording. When I tune to that channel to see what is going on the tv goes black. It says its recording but I cant see the show. How to I fix that? I want to keep recording incase I fall asleep!

Also, the other day I had it set to tape Heros (it tapes all first runs of the series) and when I went to my playlist it was not there. I think I turned off the dvr with the tv - would that keep it from recording?

  • Anyone been to Ireland and have hostel/area suggestions?

I am planning on a week long trip to Ireland in March. I have never been, and I am not sure what area I would like to focus on. Does anyone who has traveled there have any suggestions? I prefer hostels, and will need to stay where there is plenty of public transportation. Any personal experience/ info you have would be great! Good stuff and bad will be appreciated!

  • angular velocity question (college)?

I am studying for my Trig final (college) and there is a question about angular velocity. I keep missing these questions because I dont understand what I am doing. Any Help????

Q: Marta's bicycle tires have a diameter of 26 inches. If she rides at 8 mph what is the angular velocity of the wheels in revolutions per second.

The converting from miles per hour to revolutions per second is killing me too!

  • erasing history from a computer?

My job is VERY strict about what websites we can view on our work computers. I accessed a religious site that I am sure they would not approve of. Really, they would probably not find out, but how do I erase that history completely? I have already taken it out of the history, but is it still lurking in there somewhere? I don't want to get fired over something so stupid!!

  • Help me find info on a teacher's union!!!!!!?

I am a teacher who works very hard (10-12 hrs/day). I am very dedicated to my job and to my students. I sponsor several clubs and work diligently to raise the standards of our students and our school system. I also deal with terrible problems at my workplace. We are REQUIRED to do extra work that we are not paid for, we are harassed by our principal on a daily basis (Comments on our weight, our economic status, and our appearance are very common. Allegations of insubordination are made on us for simply talking about our opinions among ourselves or even with our boss in the privacy of the office. We all are afraid to speak up because of getting fired - even those of us tenured are afraid life will be terrible if we speak up.). Some of the brave souls have gone to the board of education, but nothing ever seems to happen. Our principal has done so many things that he should have been fired over, but somehow, the system backs him. We are desperate!

I have talked to several teachers who are in a teachers union, and they say that things like this do not happen when you have a union. They talk about how much better it is, and how the employees have more say about things. I am so interested in moving forward in trying to get a union here, but I do not know the laws or even where to begin. I have a spotless record, so I think I am in a good position to work toward this. (It would seem strange for me to be fired when I have begun talking to a union at this point.)

Does anyone have any good contacts for me? Are there any national teachers unions around? Also I would like to hear comments for and against unions. I do not want to go blindly into something without being informed!

    Thank you!

  • Walking horses - tradition or cruelty?

Of course many walkers are just family pets and are ridden for pleasure, but I am talking about the show horses. I have found out from talking to vets and ferriers about some of the "training methods" used on these guys. (of course this is only some) Their hooves are cut unnaturally and then huge pads are added keeping them from enjoying life outside the stall. Often medicines are injected on the legs to make them sore so the legs are lifted higher. Tails are broken and tendons are cut so the tail can be "set" high - making it useless for swatting flies. Straps are attached to the rectums to help them "squat" as they gait. I have even talked to ferriers who have witnessed golf balls and nails placed between the hoof and pad to cause pain so the legs come up quicker. Many a vet has told me of the walking fhorse barns that are filled with down, lame horses. These methods are very "hush-hush" but they are done.

Why do we allow this? Is it ignorance? Is it tradition? What?

  • Help with Russian language and fluency?

I absolutely love the Russian language and I desire so much to become VERY fluent in it. I got my undergraduate degree in Russian, but so many of those final classes were liturature and history that I never really grasped the language. Are there any good resources out there? I would love to hear about any groups, programs, or other opportunities that are out there. I can't really travel to Russia currently because of a medical condition I am being treated for, but it is possible in the future! Thank you for any info you have!

  • Any groups of teachers wanting to travel in the summer?

I am a teacher and have June and July off each year. I like to travel just about anywhere, but do travel on a budget (hostels and such). Because of safety I would rather travel with others than on my own. Are there any groups of teachers out there that are looking for the same?

  • How can I get my graduate degree in Russian paid for?

I have an undergraduate degree in Russian and want to get my masters in teaching Russian. Does anyone know any government (or other) programs that would pay for it? I currently teach, and do not qualify for financial aid, but the degree is anywhere from 40,000 to 80,000 and I can't afford that!
