Can my company pay severance bonus prior to bankrutpcy?
If I have a company that is about to be forced into bankruptcy (non-profit). Can I make one-time payments to my employees (non-officers). These are working families who will be ineligible to collect unemployment, and I thought 60 days (2 months) severance in a lump sum would help them a great deal. California University who was unable to secure financing is in this predicament now, and was forced to terminate 80 families and close down the university. I fear for them since the University did not pay into unemployment, so they have nothing if these payments would be "disallowed". Does anyone know an answer?
2 AnswersLaw & Ethics10 years agoIf a non-profit is about to go bankrupt, can it make a one-time severance payment to employees?
Non-profit tried to secure additional financing, but will be forced to close and default on $millions. Employees are NOT eligible for employment (80 or so). Can the employer give these poor people anything prior to filing for bankruptcy (excluding corporate officers)? These are working families who are about to be instantly on the street due to the fact that the employer does not pay into state unemployment in California.
2 AnswersCorporations10 years agoWhy is the word "hate" tossed around so recklessly?
It seems the word "hate" is quickly introduced every time someone disagrees with the viewpoint or lifestyle someone else advocates. This term is usually tossed out there by advocates of homosexuality, abortion, etc. when, for example, a Christian disagrees with their viewpoint.
When did disagreement become synonymous with hate? When I think of hate, very strong emotional connotations come to mind. I'm sure there are some who exhibit this behaviour, but that can then be said for either side of any given disagreement. However, simply invoking the "hate" argument doesn't make it so. It's a bit childish and narcissistic isn't it...just because someone doesn't see the world through the same lens you do, or agree with your viewpoint?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade ago14 Team Competitive League, Rate My Team?
OK, this is a very competitive PPR league, so you have to react during the draft and come up with the best team possible. That being said, here is the Team:
QB: Matt Ryan
RB: Ray Rice
RB: Jahvid Best
WR: Brandon Marshall
WR: Greg Jennings
TE: Zach Miller
Flex: (WR/RB/TE): Reggie Bush
K: Nate Kaeding
DST: San Diego
Bench:
RB: Montario Hardesty, Marshawn Lynch, R Jennings
WR: Mike Wallace, Jabar Gaffney, M. Massaquoi
All elite QBs were gone early, so I focused on drafting other skill positions for PPR, knowing Ryan has huge upside (remember 2008), and will be solid with tons of weapons. Also, I can plug and play other QBs from waiver wire (Garrard, Orton, etc.) depending on Matchups.
Also, I really wanted Gates/Finley/Clark at TE, but I have faith that Zach Miller will put up good numbers with Campbell, so I wasn't too disappointed when I saw those other guys getting taken WAY too early (Clark went 2nd round). Given the new situation in Oakland, I've actually seen Miller ranked as high as 6th.
So, what are your thoughts, and how would you rate my 14-team selection? It's a lot harder to draft than 12 team leagues of the past.
3 AnswersFantasy Sports1 decade agoAtheists and Theists, how would you explain the following?
what do you think explains the phenomena of someone "foretelling" future events with 100% accuracy? How about someone previously unknown revealing exact events/details of someone else's life that are unknown to anyone except that individual? Not some vague, generic descriptions, but intimate details with precise accuracy?
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheist Challenge...are you up to the task?
Atheists, can someone please provide an explanation for where the very first piece of matter came from in the natural universe in which we exist and now try in vain to explain every detail with science? At the very dawn of existence, what explanation does science provide that explains the existence of the first piece of matter?
Was it created? Did it just "exist"? You may choose not to believe in a Creator, but, how then do you explain the existence of ANYTHING in our natural universe? Walk me through your best explanation, I really am curious how your mind rationalizes the existence of something from nothing (much like Christians are accused of doing with God).
26 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you think America will experience another Christian revival?
Brazil was radically changed when American & Swedish missionaries took the gospel message there. Now, they are sending missionaries back to a broken America. Do you think there will be another Christian revival in America?
19 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoFor Christians: Do you agree/disagree?
I see atheists constantly using all kinds of tactics online to discredit, ridicule, and attempt to intellectually assault or push militant atheism to the masses. Problem is, they routinely violate the same principles or standards they attempt to hold Christians to. Burden of proof, making wild, often baseless claims, and using sly whit and rhetoric from the latest atheist apologetics site to quickly retort and snidely respond. My favorite is when you "attack" them by providing some specific facts or concepts and they try to shift the question or toss the blame rather than answer the question. They can be great at name calling, insults, and intellectual degradation and at the same time extremely bad at backing up claims and "facts" they spew as if it were "gospel truth". Anyone else seem to bump into this on here, and how do you handle it?
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoAtheists, would the world really be less violent without religion?
I see a lot of atheists use the violence of the crusades, or the witchcraft trials, inquisition, etc. as evidence that religion is evil. In fact, I've seen that argument frequently used on atheist forums all over the internet.
What I fail to understand, however, is that the atrocities attributed to religious zealotry pale in comparison the atrocities and MILLIONS of lives lost at the hand of atheists/humanists, or even in the name of atheism itself. In fact, some of these regimes have explicitly and violently targeted religion itself first and stamped out religion to bring the masses in line.
It seems the atheist utopia is impossible based on even recent modern history and the millions of lives lost to atheist/humanist regimes, but I still see this argument being used, why? Do you still feel religion is evil? or are human beings evil? Where does this evil come from? Do we need to evolve further first before this atheist utopia of peace can exist?
23 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow would you rate my fantasy football 2008 team and why?
I'm re-posting this so the details are a bit more clear...
Key Details: 12-team league, bonus points for eclipsing 100yds rushing or receiving, this is a PPR league.
Starting Roster:
QB - Donovan McNabb
RB1 - LaDainian Tomlinson
RB2 - Brandon Jacobs
WR1 - Andre Johnson
WR2 - Anquan Boldin
WR3 - Dwyane Bowe
WR/RB Flex - Reggie Bush
TE - Owen Daniels
K - Neil Rackers (I often change it from week to week)
DEF - Green Bay (I often change it from week to week)
Bench:
QB - David Garrard
WR - Mark Clayton
WR - Ronald Curry
RB - Pierre Thomas
RB - Jerious Norwood
TE - Randy McMichael
I had Burleson, but lost him for the season to injury. I tried to grab Fasano and/or Rosario off the waiver wire, but could only get McMichael to upgrade my TE.
Bear in mind, this is a 12 team PPR league, any suggestions, and how would you rate my team and why...
