  • Switching similar jobs early on?

So I'm a recruit that was under the impression he was getting Airborne Linguist. Now my recruiter asked me which one I wanted but there was only a single Crypto space available and no Airborne so I jumped at that chance. Later on at the MEPS station my first choice was Airborne Linguist. I'm happy with either, but I did feel a bit of disappointment since I was expecting Airborne....I leave for Basic in Feb. Is there any chance they'll let me switch from Crypto Linguist to Airborne Linguist there? Or will I be able to even switch even later after the DLI for the additional Airborne Linguist training?

  • My cat drooling.....?

I have a black cat with a humpback who is very shy. She will not come to you but will not struggle if you pick her up and start petting her. She actually likes this (I think she's mischievous) but when she starts purring on your lap while being pet, she will start drooling. Every single time. What is the reasoning for this?

  • Books that analyze and break down albums?

Any genre, I just want a list of books that break down albums. Whether song-by-song or the whole album's concept doesn't really matter.

I've read Brian Coleman's "Check the Technique", Ian MacDonald's "Revolution in the Head: The Beatles' Records and the Sixties", Simon Goddard's "The Smiths: Songs That Saved Your Life", Michael Eric Dyson's "Born to Use Mics: Reading Nas's Illmatic", Matthew's Gastier's "Nas' Illmatic", Shawn Taylor's "A Tribe Called Quest's People's Instinctive Travels And the Paths of Rhythm", Christopher R. Weingarten's "Public Enemy's It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back", and Joe Bonomo's "AC DC's Highway To Hell". I'm planning on finishing the 33 1/3 series so any other suggestions?

  • What exactly does one do at "Airborne Cryptologic Language Analyst Course"?

    For 1A8X1.

I'm a bit confused since from what I understand this is the next training location after coming from the DLI, so I'm thinking that airmen have already learned their language. This stage is at Goodfellow AFB in Texas though so what exactly do you learn here? I read this info on about.com

  • Where can I learn about finances, stocks, and such?

I only know that I know nothing. Even though television tries to explain the viewers, I feel as if they're biased depending on the station and that I'm an idiot for not knowing this?

I can't take a college course so where online or what books should a beginner read?

  • Passport loopholes in the Middle East?

It's common knowledge Gulf States don't recognize Israel and will refuse entry into their countries if they see Israel's stamp on one's passport...is there anyway to get past this? I want to visit but can't because I have business in the Middle East. Is it possible to fly into Amman and drive to Israel to avoid the fatal stamp? Btw, I am an American citizen.

  • How many times has Victor Martinez rubbed Adrian Beltre's head?

It astounds and amuses me that somebody can get so mad, time after time, by having their head rubbed. I know it's in jest but it's happened at least 27 times this season. I'm not sure of the exact number. How many?

Also, does anyone have links to every video that shows it? I saw one at the beginning of August in which Beltre picked up a bat in the dugout and tried to smash it lol

  • Cryptologic Linguist training?

So I'm in DEP and am a Airborne Cryptologic Linguist hopeful going to the Air Force. My recruiter called me the other day asking if I wanted to attend some sort of intro/day-in-the-life course for cryptologic linguists and I said definitely. However since I know that rate sits in a room with no windows all day listening with headphones on what exactly can they teach us? I mean, it's not like other hopefuls have been through DLI yet.

My brother is a Combat Control hopeful and went to their training course to see if he could make it, and he passed. I'm figuring they'll just show us how they train rather than how they work.

  • What did Inuyasha do?

In the 2nd Inuyasha movie, Kagome and Inuyasha are talking by the campfire. Inuyasha says he's made up his mind to become a full demon when Kagome replies she likes him just the way he is. Inuyasha apparently becomes flustered so he calls the idea ridiculous before turning his head; Kagome asks him what's so ridiculous about it before Inuyasha turns his head with an ambiguous look on his face. Kagome looks shocked and says "Inuyasha...you..." then the scene is interrupted by an attack.

What exactly did Inuyasha do? My little brother says he smiled (presumably because Kagome has done with Kikyo never did, accepted him for who he is) which is plausible but I'm not seeing it. This has honestly been bugging me for years.

  • How long am I looking at?

So I took the DLAB, passed with a pretty good score and got my job as a linguist just before the deadline for MEPS/recruiters to turn in applicants. Problem is at my local MEPS I was delayed 2 days to take my DLAB because of a power outage, because of that I think someone in another region in the Southeast took my slot (my recruiter told me there was only 3 Linguist slots open at the time). School is long and originally I was looking at leaving around the beginning of December according to what other hopefuls said about their shipping date but I won't know for sure until the beginning of October.

Any educated guesses how long I'll probably have until I go to BMT now? It's Airborne Cryptologic Linguist for the Air Force btw.

  • How did you get a good GPA?

It's a little late to be asking this now but I'm still curious, how did you get and keep a good GPA? When I graduated my GPA was just enough to get me my diploma (2.11) so I didn't get accepted into any college. This disappointed me as I had the highest SAT and ACT scores of my graduating class by a long shot (the only one who was close was the Valedictorian). I also passed all my AP exams with a 4 or higher. I paid attention in class and participated. I just had trouble passing the classes. I lived quite a distance away and staying after for help would have nobody there to pick me up. I absolutely could not stay organized (lack of help, time-consuming, etc.) I never missed nor was late for a class. No disciplinary problems. I even stopped doing sports/clubs my Junior year in hopes that my GPA would rise. For some reason though, I just could not get it together. When I finally did graduate, many of my teachers and fellow students were extremely sad that I wouldn't be able to continue into college. Some were crying. I wanted to blame myself, I really did, but I just don't understand how my GPA was so low and others' were so high? I became angry because I just couldn't understand it and thought my life had lost direction.

  • Question about clubbing?

Is it easy? I'm a guy who doesn't have any romantic success with women so I never bother to go to a club, but in the near future it pretty much seems like this will be a popular activity amongst my colleagues. I don't want to go and look out of place and awkward there though.

How everybody know the dances that are popular? What exactly do you do if you don't want to dance at the moment yet you can't drink? If you go with a group who returns home for the night if any? What if they leave without telling you? How long is the average amount of time to stay at the club?
