  • Cutting knit fabric on the bias?

I'm making a bias cut skirt, similar to this one: http://store.americanapparel.net/rsa2301.html#i

But the fabric I'm using is a jersey knit instead of woven. I still want it to hang like it is cut on the bias, though. But since knitted fabric's bias isn't the same as woven fabric, I'm not sure if I should cut on the bias or not. How should I cut the fabric so that it will have the same flattering drape as woven fabric cut on the bias? Any experienced sewers out there want to throw me a life preserver? :) Thanks!

  • I need a PRACTICING VETERINARIAN to answer this, please...?

***Please don't answer this unless you are a veterinarian. I know there are a lot of folks out there that love their pets a lot and know a lot about animal care, but I need an actual vet. This is really important.***

My dog is breathing strangely, and she's pretty old (about 10 years). Also, she hasn't been eating quite as much as she normally does. Last time we took her to the vet, she said she had a few growths on her body that were most likely harmless. I wonder if that could be related, but we just can't afford to take her to the vet right now, and I'm afraid she might be sick or in pain, because of the way she is breathing (fast and short, like panting, but she's not hot). She is about 60-65 pounds - would it be all right to give her one gelcap of acetaminophen? I've read it can be toxic to cats, but I'm not sure about dogs. The gelcaps are 500 mg each. Thank you so much.

  • What could I wear with a trapeze jacket?

I just bought an adorable, bright green trapeze jacket on sale - it's really cute and fun, bright green, sort of thick almost denim-like fabric with a peter pan collar and pretty, silver filigree buttons, but I'm not sure what to wear with it! I've included a picture of a jacket that looks similar, but not quite the same (my jacket does not have a belt):

    http://www.fashionisspinach.com/images/0407/hmgree...

So what do you think? Will any cute little tee work, or should it be a certain color? Should I treat it like any other denim jacket, or should it be a focal point of the outfit? I could use some ideas. :) Thanks, guys.

  • What current fashion trends do you hate the most?

At the top of my list:

    Those ugly gladiator sandals

    Metallic stuff

Skinny jeans (They look terrible on everyone! The 80s are over!)

Color block stuff (Again with the 80s. Come on people. Are we going to bring back the mullet next???)

    All those tacky geometric prints

Which ones do you wish would vanish from the planet? :)

  • Can I get away with black and navy?

I know pairing black and navy used to be cause for the fashion police to show up, but the new mix-and-match rules are shaking things up. Matchy-matchy no longer works in the fashion world...

I want to pair this top (in black): http://store.alloy.com/item.do?categoryID=1327&ite...

With these pants (in navy): http://store.alloy.com/item.do?categoryID=239&item...

I figure since the pants are almost a gray, I could maybe pop a white button-down under the sweater and it would work. But I'm still unsure. What do you guys think?

  • Any tattoo artists out there? Got a question for ya!?

I want to get a very small tattoo on the inside of my left wrist. Check it out here (the password is curlygirly): http://public.fotki.com/cattieloves/random-stuff/b...

The thing is, I really want it right there on my wrist, unfortunately right around those blood vessels...I DO NOT want to move it lower. I want to get it there because I want to see it every day, and I want it to be small enough to cover with bracelets or foundation if I need to.

So, is it safe to get a tattoo there? Some people have told me that tattoo artists won't do a tattoo there because of the proximity to blood vessels, and others have told me since tattoos only penetrate the first layer of skin, it would be fine. What is your professional opinion? Thank you so much!

P.S. About how much would it cost?

  • How much for a nice mani/pedi?

Ok, I have a confession to make: I'm a manicure/pedicure virgin. I want to get one, but I'm not sure about the cost. Where should I go, and about how much should I bring?

Also, any idea about bikini waxes? :)

  • What kind of top should I wear with an a-line skirt?

I just bought some really cute a-lines, but I have no idea what to wear on top! The skirts are kind of dressy (work-wear, sort of tissue-like linen) and are patterned; one is black with a white rose pattern and one is cream and brown with sort of a swirly pattern, so I'm guessing a solid top would be a good idea. Oh, and fyi, I'm thinking espadrilles for the shoes. Thanks for your help! :*)

  • What's a good travel-able cupcake recipe?

I need to bake something for a church retreat. Cupcakes sound awesome, but the treats have to make it a long distance (from Kansas City to the Ozarks). I don't really want to bring cookies, because probably everyone will! I want to change it up a bit. Any ideas? Maybe bring un-frosted cupcakes and frost them there?

  • In Good Luck Chuck, was Dane Cook actually having onscreen sex with all those women?

Don't say it was skintight, flesh-colored bodysuits - not true. And Dane didn't use a body double. I watched the dvd features, and there's nothing about it on there...anyone know for sure?

  • What does the word "ebenezer" mean in the song "Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing?"?

The words to the song are as follows:

Come, Thou, fount of every blessing,

Tune my heart to sing Thy grace.

    Streams of mercy, never ceasing,

Call for songs of loudest praise.

    Teach me some melodious sonnet,

    Sung by flaming tongues above!

Praise the mount, I'm fixed upon it,

    Mount of Thy redeeming love.

    Here I raise my ebenezer,

Hither by Thy help I'm come,

And I hope, by Thy good pleasure,

    Safely to arrive at home.

Jesus sought me, when a stranger,

    Wandering from the fold of God;

He, to rescue me from danger,

    Interposed His precious blood.

Oh, to grace, how great a debtor

    Daily I'm constrained to be.

Let Thy grace, Lord, like a fetter,

Bind my wandering heart to Thee.

Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,

Prone to leave the God I love...

Here's my heart, Lord, take and seal it,

Seal it for Thy courts above.

  • Why do the girls in Dallas, TX wear black dresses for dates on Wednesdays?

I was reading a Donald Miller book (Through Painted Deserts, 2005) and I came across a paragraph in which Miller was describing the city of Dallas, Texas. He described it as "A big, Republican, evangelical city where you can't drink, girls wear black dresses for dates on Wednesday, and the goal is to join the local country club like your daddy and his daddy before him. When you build a city near no mountains and no ocean, you get materialism and traditional religion. People have too much time and lack inspiration." I was just wondering what the line about the girls in Dallas wearing black dresses for dates on Wednesday was referring to. Anyone from Texas want to field this one? Thanks! : )

  • What does Amy Winehouse mean when she says "Yes I've been black but when I come back you will know" in Rehab?

In Amy Winehouse's song "Rehab," she says the line "Yes, I've been black but when I come back you will know." And I was wondering what exactly that line meant.

  • Is it necessary to size a store bought canvas before priming and painting with oils?

I am brand-new to oil painting and would greatly appreciate help! The canvas is cotton and came with my kit; I'm assuming it's prestretched. Do I still need to size with rabbit-skin glue or acrylic gesso before priming and painting with oils? I should probably mention the oils are a new kind of paint that is actually water soluble! Also, if anyone knows of an animal-friendly alternative to rabbit-skin glue, that would be amazing. : )
