Mahayana Wish
'If you can't make it better, at least don't make it worse.' This basic idea in life, to add something positive... for any existing person, being or situation, such as the earth's environment, is an idea of how I'd like to spend my time. Do you think you will have any regrets when you die?
Just read this article (I am not promoting it as I found it on Yahoo!)... about people's major regrets when they die...
One of the points was they wish they had let themselves be happier.
What do you think?
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality10 years agoDid Jesus, Buddha and Darwin all have "interdependence" in common?
Didn't they each teach, in their own ways, that we (all living things) are connected?
3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf we deny evolution, in any way religious or not, are we endangering ourselves by not facing the "truth"?
Increasingly, researchers are doing the numbers, and saying, yes, if present trends continue, a mass extinction is very likely underway. The evidence is pieced together from details drawn from all over the world, but it adds up to a disturbing picture. This time, unlike the past, it's not a chance asteroid collision, nor a chain of climatic circumstances alone that's at fault. Instead, it is chiefly the activities of an ever-growing human population, in concert with long-term environmental change.

Extinction Rates:
1. Edward Wilson estimates 27,000 species are currently lost per year. By 2022, 22% of all species will be extinct if no action is taken.
2. Niles Eldridge estimates 30,000 per year currently.
3. Georgina M. Mace using a different methodology based on extrapolations from the current lists of endangered species arrives at a figure of 14-22% loss of species and subspecies over the next 100 years.
4. Paul Ehrlich, using another approach based on total energy use estimates extinction rates at 7,000 to 13,000 times the background rate, (70,000 to 130,000 species per year) which he says is higher than figures based on data for higher orders of animal indicates, but we have little data on insects and micro flora and fauna.

...many species are endangered, meaning they are dying off so quickly they are soon in danger of becoming extinct. Once an animal becomes extinct, it will never be on the earth again. Many species are becoming extinct at an alarming rate; approximately 27,000 species become extinct each year, which means about three http://www.surfnetkids.com/articles/about_protecti...
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSpiritually speaking, does it really matter what we think or how we think?
If thoughts can do this to our water... imagine what it can do to us? Please view and respond in context to your own ideas or attitudes in relation to spiritual and religious concerns, ideas and ideals. Thank you all.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSpiritually speaking... is this statement valid or true? "All energy contains consciousness."?
Please consider the following ...
"Science has unfortunately bound up the minds of its own even most original thinkers, for they dare not stray from certain scientific principles. All energy contains consciousness. That one sentence is basically scientific heresy, and in many circles it is religious heresy as well. A recognition of that simple statement would indeed ...change your world."
What are your thoughts on the above. Do you agree or disagree? Is this a valid statement?
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIs this a good spiritual or religious practice? What is your perspective or belief?
Don’t ponder others. - Atisha (from Atisha's 59 Lojong slogans)
"Strangely, when you are not afraid to uncover your own flaws, and you are not constantly comparing yourself to others, it is a great relief. When you look at yourself, you no longer have to convince yourself of anything and you have nothing to hide. And when you look at other people, you are not doing so with the ulterior motive of using what you see to prop up your own feeling of superiority and virtue."

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDon't you think that "non-theist" is more appropriate to define a Buddhist than "atheist"?
I find that many people say "believer" and "non-believer" also . . . And I think that Buddhists can also be called "believers" as they do have beliefs.

15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIn your religious life and/or your spiritual life how important is "happiness" to you?
Reading questions and answers in R&S there doesn't seem to be much emphasis on happiness or much happiness expressed . . . so, I thought I would ask.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHave you ever personally met a Buddhist monk or nun?
If so, was it a positive experience? Did you get to talk with them?
If not, would you like to? What would you talk about?
9 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWould you consider "positive, compassionate action" a form of "active prayer" or "prayer in action"?
As a way of actively wishing a way for things to be better....

11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat level of privacy should a person in robes or religious dress expect in public or is it Disney Land today?
Is being a religious person in the world the same as living in Disney Land when it comes to digital cameras on telephones and digital cameras being so common?
Should their personal privacy be respected, even when they are in public?
Should people who are priests, monks, nuns... from any tradition, Catholic, Buddhist, Hindu, whatever, be able to maintain their personal privacy when in public?

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow can we call ourselves "better", if we cannot do "better", are we spiritually inert or dormant if we cannot?
If we cannot do something positive to help others... what are we doing... Religiously and/or Spiritually?
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoLet's all go to the BP oil slick, bring an empty barrel or chicken feathers or hair clippings...?

7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat would you do if you went to a church, temple, mosque or any other sanctuary for comfort or help...?

4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoIf condoms prevent any HIV/AIDS cases or any unwanted pregnancies why is it against some peoples moral beliefs?
...to use them? ...or distribute them?
I can be argued that condoms don't prevent ALL... but it can be argued that condoms prevent some unwanted pregnancies and life-threatening diseases. Isn't it worth just ONE life to use condoms. Especially since I'm not aware that condoms are responsible for actually causing any deaths.
