  • Water softener is constantly draining water?

I have a 5 yr old Culligan water softener and it is constantly draining. I can make it stop by putting the bypass valve to the bypass condition. Is this normal? I'm concerned that I might be using more water than I need to. What could be the problem?

  • How to replace an old Windows 2003 AD domain controller?

We have an old domain controller (windows 2003 server) for a network of about 50 users and we just bought new server hardware. So, I will be migrating the old domain controller to the new server.

Ideally, it would be with the same IP and machine name as the old server so that the clients don’t have to reattach to the domain.

Is this a difficult task? I’ve never done it before and would like to know if you have any advice or instructions (website, etc) on how to do this.

I am a professional programmer and very familiar with computers but have never done this kind of task before.

  • What is the recommended operating system for this hardware?

I'm reloading a PC for someone this weekend. They used to have Win 2000. Was going to put either XP, Vista or Windows 7 on it as they are running into incompatibility problems with W2K. Please make a recommendation. I'm very familiar with the features of both O/S, I'm just concerned that it might not have enough horsepower to run Win7.

    Specs:

    Athlon XP 1900+

    400GB HDD (7200 rpm)

    1.5GB RAM

    ATI Radeon 9550

Floppy, sound card, network card, rest is insignificant.

  • Polite way to find out neighbor's first name?

We have been in our house for about 3 years now and always say hi to our neighbor when they're outside. We've talked to them a few times and they are very nice. My wife and I introduced ourselves to them when we first moved in but neither of us can remember the male neighbor's first name. My wife and I think it has been far too long to ask him straight up and would be embarrassed to do so. What would be the best way to find out his first name?

By the way, we live in Canada (Ontario) and are all English speaking if that makes any difference to the response.

  • Will this tire/rim combination work on my 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe?

I'm in Canada and I have a 2005 Hyundai Santa Fe with P225/70R16 all season tires with rims that are the 5 bolt pattern and (114.3mm/4.5") factory rims.

I saw an ad for a set of snow tires size 225/70/R16, and they are on Toyota Highlander steel rims.

Are these rims compatible with my vehicle?
