  • Thoughts/Insights/Feelings regarding the film `Franklyn'?

Saw this magnificent film recently which I found very engaging. Thought I'd see what others thought of it and what interpretations people have to share about it. What did you think of the `Janitor' character, for example? Or `Sally'? And who, really, was the `villain' of the piece? Just interested in anyone's thoughts on this........

  • What would a make-up artist have in their train case?

I would like to know what a freelance make-up artist would have in their case if they were going on a job. What, specifically, would they carry in the case and which items would be the most important?

  • "In the face of an absurd universe the only appropriate response..."?

Who said, "In the face of an absurd universe the only appropriate response is laughter"? I think it's Camus but I'm not sure. And, whoever said it, could you cite the source? Thanks. I appreciate it.

  • Do You Believe In God/Ghosts? Why/Why Not?

Do you believe in God? Do you believe in Ghosts? If you DO believe in God, why don't you believe in ghosts? Whether Christian or Jewish, one can't claim the Bible rules out the possibility of the survival of bodily death nor can it be claimed that there are no `ghosts' either in the Christian or Jewish scriptures nor, even, in the Quran, as we have Surah 18 of Quran, I Samuel 28, Matthew 14:26, Matthew 27:52-53, Mark 9:4, and Luke 24:39, among others, all citing the existence of or belief in spirits of human beings who have died, then appearing or seeming to appear to humans who have not died.

Why is then easier to believe in an omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent being no one has ever seen than it is to believe in the spirit of a human being who once lived on the planet earth and decides to hang around - when there are many who claim to HAVE seen such spirits?

If you do NOT believe in God or question the existence of a God - why don't YOU believe in ghosts? Consider the 1st law of thermodynamics about the conservation of energy - it cannot be created or destroyed, it can only change form. Leaving theology and philosophy out of the question and concentrating entirely on physics we are, if nothing else, systems of energy - so, when we `die', why can't that `energy' appear to others as a `ghost'?

  • A Query On Death....?

I live in a county in upstate New York, USA, where they have recently `upped' their anti-smoking campaign. Further, I have noticed that in the USA there are a disproportionate number of television commercials emphasizing `health' and the avoidance of death. Here's my question: We will - WILL - all die. Everyone is going to die. That is just a natural occurrence. So would you rather die because of choices you have made (and enjoyed making, like drinking or smoking, red meat, etc) or would you rather die by getting hit by a truck on your way to the Health Food Store to buy your stick of SoyJoy and a sack of grains?

Simply put, would you rather die because of something you did or for no apparent reason at all? And Why? Thanks.........

  • HELP! A Bridge So Steep They Offer Help Crossing?

At some point in the last nine years I encountered a bridge - somewhere - which had so steep an incline that there were signs saying that, if you were too afraid to cross, to call a number and someone would appear to drive your car across for you. My wife and I thought this was hilarious (these signs, that is) until we started across and, at the apex, realized the signs weren't kidding. The bridge was unreasonably high. The problem here is we've traveled quite a bit to many places and neither of us can remember where this bridge was nor what the name of it is. Any help? We're both fairly sure it was on the east coast of the USA or, perhaps, in Texas/Louisiana but not the Sabine bridge. If anyone could help me out here it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. It's driving us nuts trying to remember this place. If you've ever been on this bridge you won't forget the experience though, sadly, we've forgotten the name. Again, thanks for any assistance.

  • Does anyone have any suggestions on making the Greek cucumber/garlic dip Tzatiki?

When I lived in Greece I used to make Tzatiki regularly. Here in the U.S. I've started making it again with the recipe of 1 cup plain yogurt, 1/4 cup cucumber, 2 cloves garlic, 2-3 tablespoons olive oil, salt -which is the recipe I used in Greece - but it doesn't taste the same. It's good, but it's not great. Any suggestions on how to make it great?
