2 AnswersOther - Society & Culture8 years agoHow to deal with estranged parents?
I have asked this question in a different section which did not give me great ideas..
Background: in 2006 I was 18 years old when I met my husband. At that point in my life I was dealing with abuse at home both mentally and physically. I was to a point that I would pray everyday to have God just kill me because I had no desire to live. I had been feeling that way for about four years already. My husband pretty much saved my life and gave me the will to live. I moved out of my family's house into his family's house. I had my own room and kept everything religiously safe as far as relationships go. We performed an Islamic wedding in May 2008 and formalized our nuptials by law at the end of 2008. I had my beautiful daughter in 2011, now making her 2 years old.
Since leaving, my family severed all ties with me because my husband's family come from other religions and are not Muslim. My husband does not follow the ways of his family but he does carry a very distinctive name. I have gotten over the fact that I was very unhappy living with my abusive father. I have tried to make my parents understand my reasons for leaving but they cannot get over the facts about my husband's family. It has been seven years since I've seen my family. I only get contacted through email on special occasions such as my birthday.
I miss my family dearly and wish to have a relationship with them. My daughter deserves to know my side of the family. I had mentioned to my family that if we pray to God, he forgives us... What makes my family so special that they cannot get over themselves and forgive me?
Keeping my family in my prayers,
