  • God's revelation complete in the coming of Jesus?

Hi, I am preparing a bible study for my small group tomorrow. One of the members asked to look at how the bible ends, and why it wont be added to. I will be looking at this in two ways, from a theological and an historical point of view. I have got the historical side of things sorted, with a wealth of information available. But what of the theological......

Does/can God need to reveal himself further? or is God's revelation now complete... and is this because of Jesus, or because of the Holy Spirit?

I was thinking of looking a little at the passage at the start of Hebrews chapter one... "in the past God spoke....through the prophets....but in these last days he has spoken by His Son". Will God send anymore prophets?

My own personal view is that the revelation is complete, but i struggle to say why. is it because Jesus has come so prophecies fulfilled. is it because we have the holy spirt. is it because the kingdom of God/heaven is now here, whatever that kingdom is?

Some opinions, and some bible verses would be greatly appreciated.

    Kind regards, Dave

p.s. Muslims i know you will mention Mohammed but that discussion is not what I am after. Please just Christian perspective thoughts.

  • do you ever tire of green flying hippogryph heavens?

why do so many people ask christians if they believe in beings like tooth fairys, unicorns, or gigantic blobs of spaghetti.

they posit the idea that belief in one of these is just as rational (or irrational) as belief in the christian God.

there are over 1billion people with belief in the christian God. there are not many with belief in a giant spaghetti blob. although there is no proof of christianity (its a faith people) there is in fact a large amount of evidence, historical and anecdotal.

when 1billion people, (or even 1000 people) start believing in pink fluffy unicorns then i might answer your questions. if you truly believe there is the same amount of evidence for both, then please answer and explain why it is that there are 1billion christians, and no pink fluffy unicornians.

  • Thoughts on Jesus - Do unto others what you would have done unto yourself?

In Jesus' day there was a saying along the lines of "dont do to others what you would not have done to yourself". why do you think Jesus altered this? Is what Jesus said similar, or very different. I have only had the phrase "do unto others..." told to me when i was doing something bad. but lately i have been thinking that the phrase means more, its not about what i shouldn't do, but its a call for me to get off my backside and start doing things.

so my question is: am i just over thinking this? as i have only had it told to me in the sense not to do bad stuff. And if i am not over thinking this, and i should do stuff, what is a practical thing that i could do?
