heating hermit crab tank?
I recently acquired some hermit crabs via craigslist. They came with everything they needed for a 10 gal tank, but I want to move them to my 20 tall since the tank seems a little small for them.
I have:
a night/red light heat lamp
A zoo med Reptile UTI heater size 10-20 Gal
CVS Pharmacy human heating pad (dry)
Which of these would work best for the 20 g tank?
I also heard that if I use the UTI I should go for 20-30 or something like that, is this true?
Is it safe to use the human heating pad (dry) as supplemental heat in the winter?
I have a coconut/sand miz substrate
2 purple pinchers
and what appear to be 2 strawberries (I heard they weren't good for beginners and was not expecting anything so fancy, but I have them and want to make sure I do it right.)
EXTRA INFO
the 10 g is holding at 70-75 humidity and 70-75 F
I have all other supplies needed (I think)
They have access to salt and fresh water
Am feeding a mix of store food, organic baby food, and other crab safe fresh foods

If one of the pads is it best to place on the bottom or the side?

1 AnswerFish8 years agoDog ate cooked chicken all bones The WHOLE Chicken?
So my collie mix got into the trash and ate an entire roast chicken I mean the ENTIRE thing. There weren't even scraps. I'm talking wings, legs, ribs, back bone, the works!
This happened sat afternoon, we've been watching her
The vet is aware and on call should anything go wrong
I have two 24 hr places contacted as well
We fed her 3 slices of bread as soon as we found out
have been giving her rice with her food
Here are my questions:
1. Is there anything else I should be giving her to help her system?
2. Is an X-ray really necessary (another vet suggested it the other said it was more of a wait and see deal)?
3. How long should I keep her quiet/how do I know when all the bone passes?
She is pooping, tiny bit of "diarrhea" (like when they eat too much rich food, not the super icky kind)
Acting normal
Eating normally
She passed a wish bone today eew, but good right?
We've been keeping her quiet- no playing in the park running or jumping
Should I be doing anything else? She's under 24hr observation between me and my roomies.
6 AnswersEthnic Cuisine8 years agoFish scratching on rocks?
I have a 20 gallon aquarium with about 5 guppies in it and 4 kuhli loaches.
Some of my guppies are scratching on rocks and plants but have no sign of ick or any other parasites.
It was suggested that I use Coppersafe, I lessened the dosage slightly because of the loaches and it seemed to work. But now they are scratching again .
(its worth noting that the loaches are acting normal and haven't had any problems this entire time.)
I can't figure out what the hell is going on. Any ideas. I don't see anything physically wrong with the guppies
3 AnswersFish9 years agoFish Scratching on rocks?
I have a 20 gallon aquarium with 5 guppies, 4 kuhli loaches, 1 clown pleco, 1 bamboo shrimp. There is no salt in the water.
I already lost 2 guppy's it seemed a bit random they had trouble breathing then kicked it
one more had the same symptoms and seems okay now BUT
most of them seem to be scratching against rocks and stuff.
I don't see any ich, and am not sure what they have, they don't seems to have any parasites I can see.
I'm not sure what to treat it with, though I know I will probably have to remove the shrimp if its a copper based medicine and lower the dosage cause of the loachs.
I have QuICK Cure
Marcyn 1 and 2
triple sulfa
on hand at home as well as salt
Any idea what this could be, I want to get it cured before my guppy gives birth she's ready to pop

So he was fine this morning, came home and:
His color is off (horizontal stripe showing)
Swims very rigidly
tries to eat spits it out and repeats
floats near top of tank
fins look a little ragged
BF said he looked slightly bloated to. But (to my eyes) not dropsy looking yet.
I have marcyn that covers fin and bloat but already used the metafix
I treated him with Melafix for fin rot, and added aquarium salt
Lives in 2.5 gallon tank
1-2 50% water changes a week
eats 3 betta bits 2x a day
It has been hot where I live and I have no way to cool the water, but my other 6 bettas are fine (all in separate 1-10 gal tanks)
1. Does he have anything else?
2. can I add the marcyn to Melafix or is that too much
3. Is there anything else I can do?
3 AnswersFish10 years agoWhat breed of cat is this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Astrid_com_orelh...
it has very large ears. The eyes look funky because of the camera red eye effect (it has two different colored eyes-which is what I was looking up but I have never seen a cat with ears like this before)
4 AnswersCats1 decade agoMy zebra danio (glofish) are dying. I don't know why!?
First it was the biggest one, he started to look skinny then starved and now he can barely swim.
And I noticed today that another one is having the same thing happen to it.
I do water changes every 2 weeks
they eat mix of guppy food and dried brine shrimp, and sometimes go after the corys' shrimp pellots. I feed then every other day
I've only had them a month. Not sure whats going on. They don't have any spots or puffed scales or anything. I got them from Jack's Aquarium. HELP!!
4 glofish (zebra danios)
2 corys

1 AnswerOther - Home & Garden1 decade agoHow do you introduce a stray cat to your cat?
I have a cat and she's usually a little shy but pretty laid back.
Here's the problem.
I just moved and there is a cat in the neighborhood that is realllly friendly and is constantly trying to get in the house.
We feed him and tried letting him in a couple of times, but my cat hisses at him and they get into a fight every time they see each other.
Is there anyway to get them to make peace?
She goes outside too and I'm worried that if she doesn't make friends with him that he'll chase her so far from home that she won't be able to figure out how to get back.
And I want to know if I can start letting him in the house when the weather is bad (and know if I need to start buying anti flea and worm meds for him as well. I'm not gonna do it if he's not coming in)
