Hii :] My name is Kristen and I'm 17 years old. Horseback riding is basically my life. I have a 22 year old thoroughbred named Hap that I compete in jumpers with. He's a crazy ball of energy and I love him :] I'm at the barn 6 days a week riding Hap, helping out with other horses, and just hanging out with my friends. Other than that I think I have an addiction to shopping I study a lott cause my goal in life is to be a veterinarian I love the summer and being tan and just being able to hang out with my friends and partyy I spend all of my time in the horse section on Y!A so you know where to find me :]

  • Show name for my new horse?

So I asked a question the other day about a barn name for my new horse and I picked Duke. He's a 17hh, dark bay, dutch warmblood that I'm going to do the j/a jumpers with. He's a big boy and really athletic but has the playful puppy attitude. His show name doesn't have to be related to Duke, but it can be. I'm looking for catchy, kinda fancy names. I like it when they're just one word, but it doesn't have to be. A horse at my barn has the show name Continuity and I LOVE that name, if that helps at all. Thank youu!

  • Name for my new horse?

I got a new horse today! He's a 17 hh dutch warmblood and going to be doing the j/a jumpers with me. He's very big and really athletic but has the cutest face and playful puppydog attitude :] Some names I've been thinking of so far are: Duke, Benny, Tucker, Hudson, Levi, and Deuce. What do you think of those? I'm looking for other suggestions too! Thank youu

  • I am kinda a medical mystery...?

I have two main problems with my body right now that doctors just can't seem to figure out.

The first one has to do with my stomach. Ever since I was 2 I have been getting really bad stomach aches everytime I eat. I can start eating, and then can only eat for about 10 minutes until I get reallyy nauseous. If I continue to eat after I get nauseous, it will usually cause me to throw up. So I just go throughout my day eating small meals. So I guess I don't neeed a solution for this problem but it would be nice to actually get to eat a full meal and at the same time as everyone else. And even if I eat within my 10 minute time span I still get a little sick. I go to a GI doctor and have had different tests done for ciliac and chrones and those came back negative. I am going to get an endoscopy though just to make sure. Does anyone have any idea what this problem could be? (I'm 17, almost 18, so I've had it for 15 years and have gone to doctors for it for probably 7 years)

My second problem is my knees. Both of them have extreme pain everyday, almost all day. Nothing triggers them to hurt, they just do. Pain is increased though with running, walking up stairs, and standing or sitting for long periods of time. I have gotten MRIs done and they came up clear for both knees. It all started after my first year of high school cross country and track. We were running 6 days a week for the whole school year. Because of my knees I had to stop running and become the manager of my teams. I had to quit my elite soccer team and all other physical activites excpet horseback riding, because that's not really a sport you can just stop when you own 2 horses. I can't even ride a bike without pain. I have been to 3 orthopedic surgeons and recieved cortizone injects from one, which did nothing, and lateral release surgies from my current surgeon (who is one of the top orthopedic surgeons in chicago). The lateral releases fixed the alignment of my knee caps, and we were hoping they would fix the knee pain but they didn't. My knee caps apparently had some of the worst tilts my surgeon has ever seen though, so it was good that we got that problem fixed anyway. I also have been through 3 years of physical therapy (2 years before my surgery and 1 year after) and none of that helped. I just got some blood work done to test for RSD but that came in negative. So again, does anyone have a possible guess as to what this problem might be?

Sorry this is so long but its hard being 17 and not being able to eat normally for the past 15 years or exercise at all for the past 3 years.

  • Some general questions about horse racing (for AP English argument)?

So for my AP English final we have to make an argument. Mine is going to be on horse racing. (I'm a show jumper and own a horse so I wanted to do a topic related to horses) The information I'm interested in is:

    *Most expensive racehorse ever

*Average amount of money bet on horse racing in a year (for the US)

*Average amount of money won in horse racing in a year (for the US; won by owners and from betting)

*Average amount of deaths in a year (in the US; horses and humans)

I'm having some trouble finding the information on the amounts of money. Does anyone know of any websites that might have some of these answers? (Wikipedia is off limits) Thank you!! :]

  • Abercrombie interview?

So when I was at Abercrombie and Fitch the other day the manager came up to me and asked me if I wanted to work there. He gave me a "recruiting" card and told me to come on Friday at 4 for a group interview. What do you think I should wear? My wardrobe is like 99% A&F so that's not a problem. I'm gonna wear A&F jeans but what kind of top and shoes should I wear? I live in Chicago so it's still really cold here and there's snow on the ground. But I guess I could change into flip flops when I get into the mall or something.

    Thank you! :]

  • I was offered a job at Abercrombie and Fitch?

I was shopping at Abercrombie and Fitch yesterday and the manager came up to me and offered me a job. But since I'm 17 he said I would have to work at Abercrombie until I'm 18 and then he could get me transferred to Abercrombie and Fitch. He filled out this "recruiting" card and told me I can go to Abercrombie on Friday at 4 and give them the card or I can put this password in online and fill that out. Which one do you think I should do? And what do you think my chances are of getting the job since I was recruited by the manager?

    Thank you!! :]

  • Asking my boyfriend to turnabout with my horse?

Okay so another poster's question inspired me. My school has turnabout (a dance where the girls ask the guys) in about a month and I'm asking my boyfriend. He's a football player so what I was going to originally do is bedazzle a football in clear rhinestones and then write TURNABOUT? in pink rhinestones on it and have him get called down to the deans (since the dean is his football coach) and make it seem like he's in trouble but really give him the football to ask him to turnabout. Butttt I was just thinking I could do something with my horse. I just had surgery so I can't ride right now but I've been telling my boyfriend that he can come down to the barn with me to visit my horse. Do you think I should have my friends like paint TURNABOUT? on my horse so when I get him out of his stall he sees it?? Okay I'm really sorry this is so long. So which idea do you like better? Or do you have any more ideas involving my horse??

People at my school like to ask their dates in really creative ways by the way so it's okay if your idea is a little out there!

  • Haven't ridden in 2 months?

Haha... okay this really isn't a question but I'm soo excited! I'm 16 and had to get knee surgery, so I haven't been able to ride my horse for 2 months! Ughh it was terrible. I finally get to go out and actually have a lesson today! (I've just been going out every weekend to visit my horse but I haven't been able to ride at all) The bad thing is, I have to get surgery on my other knee on December 30th, so I basically only get one week to ride and then I'm off for another 2 months. Sorry I just felt the need to share my happiness! Anyway... I'll throw a question in here. If you could do anything with riding or your horse, and knew you could not fail, what would you do?

  • I don't know what to do, horse show or "vacation"? help please!?

Ever since I was born, my family has been going down to southern Illinois for a big fair (we live near Chicago). It's soo much fun and a lot of my extended family goes. I always have the best time there and help a trainer take care of his trotters and pacers for the races. But this year my trainer wants to take me and some other girls to a horse show in Iowa. They went during the indoor season and had soo much fun and always talk about it. I'm probably going to have to retire my horse after the summer, because he's 22 and just can't physically take the jumpers anymore. The problem is, it's at the same time as the fair. So I don't know if I should keep to the tradition and go down to the fair and help with the horses there (I go at like 5 a.m. and leave at like 10 p.m.) or if I should go show my horse in Iowa in a show that might be our last out of state show. I am completely torn about what I'm going to do. Sorry this is so long!! Thank you though!

p.s. I just help out with the trainer's horses at the fair for fun, it's not a job, just so you don't think I'm like obligated to be there.

  • who decides what's "in" or "out"?

Do you know what I mean? Like in hunters, when people say that navy show coats are in right now or that black saddles aren't. (I don't know if that's necessarily true... it's just an example) But who really determines what is in or out? Is it the companies that make the products or the judges or what? I just thought of this today and couldn't think of an answer.

  • If you could have anything...?

If you could have anything in your tack box what would it be? I'm not really looking for items in the box, but its okay if you want to add those. More like features that the box could have. My dad is a talented builder and is making me my next tack box :] I want to get some cool custom stuff put in it. So I'm just looking for some features that your tack box has or you wish it had!

    Thank you in advance! :]

  • working at a racetrack?

I'm 16 and want to get a job this summer. I wanted to help my trainer at the barn just mucking out stalls, grooming, and exercising but she has enough workers for that already. There is a racetrack like 20-30 minutes away. Do you think they would hire me to muck out stalls and maybe take care of some horses during the summer? I'm just not sure because I'm kind of young...

I'm very experienced with horses and know how to take care of them! (although I'm not expecting to get a big job actually taking care of the horses)

    Thank you!! :]
