  • What are the differences between Sunni and Shia?

I know that there's the argument about the lineage of the caliphate. What other differences are there? Are they really worth the bloodshed?

  • If God is omnipotent ...?

... that would mean that he is complete within himself. He has no needs, and no desires. He is infinite, and lacks nothing.

So why did he create us?

  • Ethics and morality question #4 for theists?

A man commits suicide by overdosing on pain medications.

He has the medications because he has recently been diagnosed with an uncurable cancer. Doctors have told him that he will live for several more months without treatment, undergoing extremely painful physical degeneration the entire time, leaving him in a vegetative state before he finally dies.

They can provide treatment which will prolong (but not save) his life for up to a year, possibly longer, but the treatments are very expensive. He has no health insurance, and the treatments will bankrupt his family.

    Is his suicide a sin?

  • Ethics and morality question #3 for theists.?

A woman stabs her husband to death with a kitchen knife while he is sleeping.

They have been married for years, and she follows a religion which forbids her to divorce him. He is mentally and physically abusive to her and their 12 year old daughter, and has recently begun sexually abusing their daughter. He has told her that if she reported him to the authorities, he would kill both her and their daughter.

Has she sinned by killing him?

  • Ethics and morality question #2 for theists.?

A man belongs to one of the great monotheistic traditions (Christianity, Islam and Judaism), but he's never been comfortable in that particular tradition. He converts to one of the other traditions, and believes totally and absolutely that this is what God/Allah/Yahweh wants for him.

    Has he committed a sin?

(Note for non-theists; I have a pretty good idea of what your response will be, so please save us both some time, and don't bother.)

  • Ethics and morality question #1 for theists.?

Do you believe that ethics and morality can be situational? In other words, is the sinfulness of an action dependent on the reason or the context of the action?
