Why the US universities/colleges ask about counselor's phone number?

My school Counselor can't speak english fluently

She can write/ read very good english but can't speak.

What would happen?when admission committee would try to contact with the counselor :(:(

since the common application have a form with a title

"To the secondary school counselor" and there is a sentence:

"Check here if you would prefer to discuss this applicant over the phone with each admission office."

Do they really contact with teachers and counselors for more information?

Where do they send admission Information? school/home

some people says smith has comfortable housing system but brandeis has very little dorms like birds' cages i m an international student and i don't know much about these institutes....i hv two options brandeis or smith brandeis is near boston (waoo) and smith has good housing facilities which one is better?
