  • Why does the the UK still have peace walls?

In Northern Ireland there are STILL massive "peace walls" separating Catholics and Protestants from each other. Why can't the UK government try and integrate the 2 communities rather than keep them divided? What sort of peace process is there? I mean it seems to be just a ceasefire, not real peace and respect. I think the walls should come down

  • Can each county in Northern Ireland vote for independence?

Why can't say, Derry or Tyrone vote for their indepence? Why does it have to be the whole country of Northern Ireland? If for example Texas can vote to leave usa without all of usa voting why can't independent counties of NI.. Independent polls suggest that Derry and Tyrone would have a majority vote to leave the UK.

  • Why are there loads of protestants that are so misinformed about the Catholic Church?

I mean I don't think all of it is hatred or racism, I believe that a Protestant can be a respectable person, sincere etc. but there are just so many people who live up to the "protest" in Protestant it's quite disgusting, I don't believe it's a sign of a fallacy in any of their church's but deep, profound individual ignorance... I've heard the strangest things from.. Catholics worship Mary as a God to Catholics impose divinity in statues and paintings... When I asked them to back up their false beliefs with catholic doctrine, of course, they can't.

The celibacy of priests I understand if they have confusion over, as it is non scriptural. But the Catholic Church is not sola scriptura. It's tradition long before the bible was made.

But for other things that seem so ludicrous that have been made up out of nowhere such as .. Catholics believe saints become gods...

    Simply incredible..

For any anti catholic answering this, my question is why protestants are misinformed on a mass scale, not your opinion on the Catholic Church. Thanks.

  • Why should I not convert to Roman Catholicism?

I was raised as a Presbyterian, but I have never felt that this religion is the right one to be in. I cannot fathom how one can believe in predestination and the idea that only few elect people get to heaven. I never understood this religion. I was looking for a new one, I want to be a christian but I looked at both Protestants and Catholics for answers, it seems like Catholicism is the more reasonable one as there is a lot of solid historical grounding, and it is the church Christ founded, I don't agree that it was right for us to have left the RC church because of the way the hierarchy way behaving. That is focusing on Catholic error and not teaching.

Growing up, I was accustomed to a lot of racial prejudice against Catholics and I once believed Catholics were wrongdoers as they didn't focus on the bible, I mean I never met any Catholics who knew many verses in the bible nor many who even read it. But I decided to talk to a catholic priest and he told me a lot about the catholic church that I never thought of myself. I now see Catholicism as being a lot deeper and more meaningful than any Protestant religion, because Catholics believe in more than just bible. They see religion as more than what you read in a book, and I can't help but feel that this is ultimately true. They believe in tradition of the church and also have an impressive historical grounding that my religion doesn't have. It almost seems as if our religion was just created out of hatred of RC. Almost as if it's a zealot founding, by man, not Christ. Should we not follow the religion Christ made for us?

One of the core beliefs i have developed is that it is human nature to want to improve, and to progress we must be united. The discrimination and intolerance of petty differences between RC and Protestants is completely unjustifiable. There are approximately 30,000 protestant religions some with such minor differences that a split in the church again, seems morally wrong. How can this rebelliousness lead us to salvation? When I look at the Catholic church and teachings I see a unified religion with strong core beliefs and never have radical alterations in their teachings. It is to me, the church that was built on rock.

I believe there should be a leader in a religion, because when we read the bible, we cannot decide on something that is objectively true. We all have different interpretations of it and so this will lead to further splits, and eventually lead to secularism. We need an authoritative person, elected, with a life's experience, to lead us in the right way, and that way is decided for all. After all, it does work as I said 30,000 P religions and only 1 RC church. The figures don't lie.

The point of the question is to ask you if there is any reason that I should not join the catholic church? Please don't refer to the scandals going on with some of the priests, I hope you will focus on the teachings and not be filled with negativity, but rather, an open mind.

For those Catholics can you tell me about the reasons for the belief in the other sacraments, such as marriage etc. I never really understood what it means.

I like the way RCs view saints, I agree that we should look up to them and ask them to pray for us. They are good examples of how to live life the way Jesus wanted us to.

As this question is about religious preference, it will obviously offend someone, so I apologize in advance. And please don't give hate filled comments or begrudge. I don't support anyone who constantly protests about Catholic doctrine to this day. Thanks.

  • How to raise my child to be straight?

I'm wondering is there anything I can do to lean him towards heterosexuality. He's not born yet but I just found out my wife is pregnant so naturally I'm looking ahead and I'm just a bit nervous. I'm sure ill love him no matter what but no parent 'wants' their son to be gay. So I'm thinking of what surroundings to put him in? What environment should I put him in?

Does it matter what colour the walls are painted in his room? If its pink, I don't know... Obviously I won't buy him dolls or anything or let him wear my wife's high heels for dressing up or whatever kids do. But is there much else? Should we not cradle him and hug him all the time, let him grow up to be independent and not feminine does that work?

Growing up in a very Christian family my natural reaction to someone saying they are gay will be discomfort and I will always see their homosexuality and now who they are. So I'm scared that I might do the same with my son.

( Now I'm not sure that its a boy I'm having I'm just guessing from a long family history it's "my turn" to have a boy, if that makes sense)

Now for those of you who might say that there is more to be worried about that who s/he wants to have sex with, to worry about bullying, drugs etc. I know that, I'm just a bit scared I only found out yesterday that I'm having a baby.

  • Just a few questions on logarithms that could really help me out before an exam thanks.?

I need to do this question, i know most parts of it so ill only give the question im stuck on, thanks.

" The future value F, of an investment is given by the formula F= P(1+i) ^t , where P is the present value of the investment, "i" is the annual rate of interest and "t" is time in years. A sum of money, P, is invested in a post office account Find the time taken for the investment to double in value if the annual rate of interest is (i) 5%. (ii) 7% and (iii) 10%."

If it helps you out the answer for (i) is 14 years and 2 months.

Also " If a solution has a pH of 8.2 find the hydrogen ion concentration of the solution, give your answer in the form of " a x 10^n " ... the formula is pH= -log of base 10 (Hydrogen ion concentration)

    If those are easy, whats 10^2x - 5(10^x) = 0 ( answer correct to 2 decimal places )

  • Logarithms help? Maths?

I need to know how to answer this question.

    Log of base 5 (2x+1) + Log base 125 (2x+1) = 16

    The answer is X = 1/2 ( 5^12 - 1 )

But I don't get how to arrive at that answer

If you can do that easily I would appreciate if you would take the time to do this one out also, thanks:

    Log base 27 (2x+4) + Log base81 (6x+12) = 5/6

  • 'anal sex when catholic, what should I do?

I'm Irish and my American fiancée just converted to Catholicism, we did anal sex alot, and it became natural in our sex lives, ( obviously I did her, just to clear any confusion lol ) but I kept telling her to convert was a personal decision for her and that I hated the idea of the man of the relationship " choosing " the religion of our kids, but we'll be living in California where most are catholic and she said it'd be best for the kids if we could all go to church together ( the same church ) so she converted for that reason, but it's frowned upon to have anal sex when catholic and she wants to be a good catholic and abide by the " moral rules " but I don't want to have anal now cause it feels like I'm taking her innocence... Lol sounds stupid. We both like it, when will we get over it? ( we also have normal sex too like any healthy couple ) ;-)
