  • Gas explosion?

I'm writing a story and I just need to get a few facts straight.

1• How long does the gas have to be left on in a room for it to cause a mild to medium explosion when the air is lit?

2• How long do people have to be in a room with a gas leakage before it causes them any damage?

  • What gender would Facebook and Twitter be in French?

We have to write a letter to a French pen pal and I'd like to say what my Facebook and Twitter addressed are but I don't know whether I should say "ma Facebook" or "mon Facebook" or would I say something different?

  • What does this lyric mean?

"When I grow up I want to be nothing at all"

It's from My Chemical Romance's song 'The End'.

I thought it meant because he is depressed, he wants to nothing when he grows up, he doesn't want to be there, he wants to be dead.

That's what I've always thought but recently I've heard a lot of other interpretations so I want to know what you all think. Thank you!

  • A question about vaccinations?

We're due to have our Year 9 vaccinations soon (Diphtheria, Polio, Tetanus & HPV).

However, I have a really severe phobia of needles; I feel sick just writing this.

I was just wondering if you can get the immunisations orally in the UK? I know you can have an oral polio vaccination here but what about the others? Thanks.

  • What should I wear?????!?

I'm going to Slam Dunk festival in Leeds next May and I'm wondering what should I wear?

I know it's a bit early but I'm planning on buying the clothes in the boxing day sales as summer clothes will be cheap.

I'm going to be 15 and like I said, it's in May. However, as it's in Britain I doubt it'll be any hotter than 15 degrees..

So yeah, what do you think I should wear? I have red hair and I'm not particularly skinny, average I'd say. Thanks!

  • Mathematical question?

A sphere of diameter 10cm is lowered into a cylindrical jar of 16cm height and 12cm diameter which contains water to a depth of 10cm. How far up the side of the jar will the water rise?

  • Teens, how can I help my friends?

Two of my friends have just told me that they are both depressed and self harm; one has been cutting for 6 months and the other for just under a year. I really need to know what to do to help, i'm just so confused. They're both some of the most beautiful girls I know, they always have boys chasing after them, they're extremely intelligent and they just come across so happy all of the time.

We we're driving home from a school trip 2 days ago and one of my friends just bursts into tears, starts shaking and and starts to dig her nails into her hand as dip as they will go, drawing blood. I didn't know what to do, it took me and my other friend (one of the other few people that know about this) to calm her down.

I really don't like seeing them like this, it's not right. They know that I don't judge them but I just can't help treating them differently know. I'm always worrying about them now too, as soon as anyone mentions depression, self harm, even sadness in general, i have to look at them to make sure they're okay.

I went through a point when I was depressed too and I suffer with anxiety so I know what it's like to an extent, but I've never gotten to their point. I just want them to be better.

  • Help please? 10 points to the most detailed answer!?

Why does water at, let's say, 23 degrees melt ice at 0 degrees?

Please give me a detailed answer all about heat transfer and such. I know that it is because of a temperature difference between the water and ice, but why is this? Does the warmer temperature transfer from the water to the ice causing it to melt?

  • Help please? 10 points to the most detailed answer!?

So, I'm doing a science assessment about heat transfer. We have several test tubes clustered together and have to write about how the outer tubes cool quicker than the inner tubes (because of heat transfer blah blah.)

    MY QUESTION IS:

Do you know of any other examples of this? (Where something is hot but is then cooled down by the air around it.) Preferably quite abstract and unusual everyday examples please! :)

  • SCIENCE ASSESSMENT HELP?

So, we're doing a science assessment about 'huddling penguins'.

We will have 8 test tubes all clustered together, 3/4 full of 80 degrees water. We will measure the temperature of one of the outside tubes and the inside tube every minute in order to prove that the outer tubes cool faster than the inner tubes (because of heat transfer and blah blah blah...)

My question is, for the planning of the experiment, what would be our independent variable? (what we would change)

My friend has said that we would change the time inbetween each measurement but I don't see how that'd be a fair test.
