Complex Analysis: Determine the largest open set in which the function Log(1 - z^n) is analytic. n is +ve int.?
How do you determine the domain in which a complex function is analytic?
I know it must satisfy the Cauchy-Riemann equations.
I'm just not sure how to solve this to get something in z=x+iy notation
Any help would be incredible :)
Notes:
n is a positive integer
Log refers to the principal value of the complex logarithm
1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoCostume ideas for theme "games"?
Basically I'm urgently after a costume idea (or five) for a giant party where the theme is "games" (or "game on" more specifically).
This can be anything from sports to video games, to board games to drinking games, as long as it's justifiable.
Any idea is welcome. Keep in mind I don't mind wearing anything, yes ANYTHING, as long as it's hilarious.
Can't wait to hear your suggestions!! :)

4 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoQuestion on finding limits?
Determine the value of k (element of R) such that:
The limit as x approaches infinity of:
sqrt(x^2+1) - sqrt(x^2+kx)
equals 3
I'm thinking the first step is to multiply by it's conjugate:
i.e. by (sqrt(x^2+1) + sqrt(x^2+kx))/(sqrt(x^2+1) + sqrt(x^2+kx))
Include the names of any rules or theorems you used.
Thankyou very much :)
1 AnswerMathematics1 decade agoI am thinking about buying my first ever COD (Call of Duty)?
Well I've never owned any COD (Call of Duty) games, but I've played it at my friend's place and fell in love.
The new one "Black Ops" is out, and costs roughly $AU80. Is it worth paying this much when I'm only a beginner? Is it easy to pick up?
Or should I just buy the older (and cheaper) COD game, Modern Warfare (I think).
Any thoughts on what I should do? :)

2 AnswersOther - Hardware1 decade agoHelp with esters experiment please?
Last week for school we did the basic esters experiment. We combined alcohols with different carboxylic acids to create esters and recorded what they smelled like.
We used Sulfuric acid as the catalyst and a heat bath for the test tubes to maintain the right temperature.
**QUESTION: We are asked to list 2 improvements that could be made to the experiment. Any help would be great, but keep it simple. Thanks. :)
Additional information:
-My first though was that a heat bath was ineffective at maintaining the high temperature required because it was limited to 100 degrees Celcius. Is this correct?
-One of the carboxylic acids we used was salicylic acid, which came as a solid. The acid clumped and fell to the bottom of the test tube in most cases. Could another improvement be that the salicylic acid should be in its aqueous form (mixed with water) to avoid clumping?
1 AnswerChemistry1 decade agoCarbonic Acid vs. Water and Carbon Dioxide?
From the reaction of Sodium Carbonate and Hydrochloric acid as follows:
Na2CO3 + 2HCl ---> 2NaCl + _________
Some textbooks say the product is Carbonic acid (H2CO3(aq)), while others say it produces Water and Carbon dioxide gas (H2O(l) + CO2(g)).
Which alternative is correct, and for the purposes of a high school experiment, which product should be used in the equation and why?
Additionally, under which conditions does each product form? For example, does the reaction have to be done at a high temperature to yield carbon dioxide gas and water?
Thank you for your answers :)
3 AnswersChemistry1 decade agoShould I upgrade Windows 7 to 64-bit?
Hi Yahoo Answers,
Last week a computer technician upgraded my computer from Windows Vista to Windows 7. When I got it back, I noticed he had only installed the 32-bit version of Windows while my computer is definitely 64-bit capable.
Note: My computer is quite recent (2007) and works very well.
Is there any reason he did not install the 64-bit version, and should I install it myself?
If so, how do I install it myself? (I have all the Windows 7 disks)
Thank you for your time :)
6 AnswersSoftware1 decade ago.: Do you have ideas for a five minute short speech on any interesting scientific topic?
I need to deliver a short 5 minute speech on any scientific topic of my choice.
There are only a few conditions:
- Five minutes long
- No use of props, projectors, white/chalkboards
- Any topic of one's choice that can be somehow (even loosely) be tied to science.
I'm not asking you to write my speech (of course!), I'm merely asking for some inspiration/ideas.
I would like it to be interesting, unique and memorable (there are approximately 150 other people who are doing the exact same thing).
Thank-you very much in advance :)
PS. No idea is too crazy or far-fetched ;)
3 AnswersOther - Science1 decade agoGod vs. Santa Claus?
We all know (I should hope so) that Santa Claus was a human invention implemented hundreds of years ago in order to scare little children into behaving properly, with relatively harsh consequences (ie. no presents at Christmas).
Now, tell me this.
Because religion has been around almost as long as mankind itself, there is extremely little documentation of its beginning and expansion.
All the religions that exist today had been at one stage in history, in some form or another, transferred through word-of-mouth.
And I'm sure we've all played a game of "Chinese whispers" (or "telephone" among other names), and know how "cumulative error" can substantially affect the message.
Getting back to my point...
How does anyone that is currently living, no older than 110 years, conclusively /KNOW/ that there is any real truth behind their own religion, because, after all, with thousands (probably more) of religions that contradict one another, they cannot all be 100% truthful or factual.
Eg. Christians say Jesus was the son of god; Muslims say he was only a prophet of god.
Result: One (or both) of these religions has to be wrong!
How does this all fit in with Santa Claus you might ask?
Well, quite simply, how does ANYONE *know* (eg. I *know* that 2 + 2 = 4) that this "god" fellow wasn't simply an early human's invention, created to scare people into behaving properly (or out of committing crime), with the harsh consequences of hell or eternal damnation.
Given that, I do appreciate his "good" intentions of keeping law and order, but in today's society; with holy wars, terrorism and xenophobia; has this really done more good than evil?
Perhaps this person died suddenly, and forgot to tell his community the whole "god" thing was a scam?
Or maybe he deliberately left them that way, fearing the afterlife.
I shall leave you with a quote from my good friend:
"Humans are over-curious, power-hungry and greedy for knowledge. Not knowing something is unacceptable in their eyes. However, when something cannot be explained, they hypothesize. 'God' was merely prehistorical man's excuse of an explanation as to why the sun rises and sets everyday."

5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhy do Christians pick and chose parts of the bible that suit them to believe?
First it was Adam and Eve, but when it was proven that the story is impossible, the Church decided to pass that off as "myth".
Second, the whole "god created the universe in six days" thing. But when evolution and the big bang were proven, they changed their beliefs again, saying that "god creates /through/ evolution".
Third, basically the whole "thy shall not kill", but "if a girl is non-married and is not a virgin, she must be stoned to death" thing, among many /many/ others. Why do people, in their right mind, chose to quote (misquote) such a messed up and contradictory book such as the bible?
Surely all Christians cannot ignore the fact that their holy book is full of inconsistencies and contradictions?

I've looked at a lot of sites like My-Piano and stuff like that, but does anyone have a copy, or know of a direct link to the piano sheet music for this song? Preferably in .pdf format.
Even a tutorial video would be good as well.

Plain as daylight when you open up your eyes,
