  • What do you have to do in New York State to drop charges against somebody?

My boyfriend and his mother got into it the other night, the fault was equal among the two, but he ended up in jail for harassment 2nd (misdemeanor b), aggravated harassment 2nd (misdemeanor a), and criminal mischief 3rd (felony e). She has cooled down since then and doesn't want to see him end up in jail for years and has agreed to drop the charges, but told me that my boyfriend and I have to figure out what to do to drop the charges and then she'll do it. It's 12:30 am right now so obviously I can't call around to find this info. I was wondering if anyone new what exactly one has to do to drop charges once a police report has been filed and signed.

Also, does it matter that he is on probation (not for a similar charge, something stupid that happened years ago) and has violated it once in the past? Will that affect the decision of the police to drop charges?

I'm looking for a website that lets you order free catalogues (anything from specific catalogues like a gardening catalogue to one that has a little bit of everything in it).

  • Anyone have any creative date ideas?

My boyfriend and I live in a small town that basically has a grocery store, convenience store, post office and church. There is NOTHING to do around town. We enjoy each others company very much, and can be content just hanging around together, but want to get up off our butts and do something fun once in a while! We do go hiking occasionally and like to watch movies, but want some other interesting ideas of what to do. He hates cards and board games so that's not really an option, and we are going on a picnic and camping this weekend. Any creative ideas of fun things to do in a quiet town?

*We also don't have a whole lot of money and have car and can travel (but preferably not too far) so those factors also need to be taken into consideration.

  • What can we do for fun?

My boyfriend and I live in a small town (no restaurants, no theater) and whenever we hang out we're bored and there seems to be nothing to do. I'm sick of watching movies, and going for hikes (that's all we ever do). Any ideas for fun things for couples to do? We have a car and can travel but don't want to spend loads of money.

  • How long does it take a car in park idling to use as much gas as shutting off and starting a car?

My car is a Ford Escort, around 22-25 mpg. I was just wondering when it was worth shutting of the car vs. letting it idle as far as amount of gas used.

  • Is it okay to transfer the balance from one of my credit cards to a new card, and then cancel the old one?

I am not transferring because I can't afford to pay and am not planning to jump from card to card. I am transferring because I am dissatisfied with the level of service from my old card company. The day after I filed a complaint to that company about things that have been going on with my card, they reduced my credit limit by almost $750! Is it a financially sound decision to transfer a balance to a new card once or twice, or is it a bad decision all over? I would like to start over with a new company that will hopefully offer be better customer service and not screw up my account information all the time.

I want to know I can I be more environmentally friendly in all the little things I do throughout the day. I cannot afford to make big changes such as buying a hybrid car at this time, but what are some day to day things I can do to start off with.

  • Do you feel bad calling into work sick?

Right now I have really bad chest pains b/c of a cold/cough that I have had for the past week. I'm supposed to work at 8 but know I won't feel like going in tomorrow because of the pain and lack of sleep. I also have to call off for Friday b/c I scheduled a dr. appt. Even though I know it's better for me to rest and get well I still feel bad calling off at the last minute and leaving work (I'm a cashier and prolly the only one scheduled for the first two hours) with no one there. Who else feels guilty when they have to call in and leave others high and dry at work?

  • Who would go back and change something about their past?

I know there are many people that would say they wouldn't go back and change the past because the past is the past and we have to move on with our lives. But I know there are many people such as me that would change something, just one thing in their past if they had the ability to. If you are one of those people and could change something in your past, what would it be?

  • Do you ever think American will be an acceptable answer to the questions, "What's your Nationality?"

I've been asked that, and when I say American people act annoyed at my answer. They expect me to be able to give them an in depth listing of my heritage (Irish, dutch, german, etc.), but to be honest, I don't know. When will it be okay for poeple born in America to say their heritage or nationality is American?

  • What do you think?

I have an awful cold and I cough all night long (have seen the doctor and he says I just have to wait it out while taking some cough syrup). Anyways, last night I made a bed up for my boyfriend in the other room because obviously the coughing was keeping him up, plus who really wants to be that close to a sick person all night long.

HIS mother thinks that that was inappropriate. She says he should have spent the night with me to make sure that I was okay, and that when one person is suffering in a relationship the other person should share the burden. She said that we didn't have a good future if one of us goes running for the other room whenever something is wrong.

I think she is being petty and trying to cause problems over small issues. I know if I were seriously ill, he would be by my bedside throughout the night, but if I just have to wait it out why make him suffer with me. Is this not ridiculous. Let me know, does she have a leg to stand on or not?

  • Who else does this annoy?

It annoys me to know end when people walk down the very center of the aisle in a store at a snails pace, or stop and talk in the middle of an aisle blocking the entire aisle and then act annoyed when you try and get around. Or how about when they stand on one side of the aisle by their cart looking at an item on the other side, blocking the entire aisle. Are people not aware of their surroundings and the other people needing to get by? It took me two hours to do $40 worth of grocery shopping today. Ridiculous.

Does there seem to be any one group of people that cause the supermarket jams where you are at?

  • Who is a good lender to take out a loan from?

I need to take out a loan for about $2500 and would be able to repay that in a year or less. What is a good, dependable company with low interest rates that I could take out a loan with? I have good credit, so that will not be a problem.
