  • In need of advice to help ease separation anxiety in our dog?

About a year ago, my BIL and his wife decided it was best for their (then) 4 year old beagle. They were never able to be home much with her, and she wound up tied up outside a lot, as she was too destructive to leave indoors... I won't go into my personal opinion of that, but it has become very hard to deal with her.

She always had a serious whining issue whenever BIL would come down, but she quickly became attatched to my FIL, who lives with us. She is just fine whenever he is here, overall. However, the last few months have been particularly trying with her, as she has gone back to much of her destructive behavior.

Typically, she sleeps with my FIL at night, but now she has started getting up and coming downstairs to get into the kitchen and bathroom garbages, and having accidents on the floor again. We have blocked the garbages to avoid this, but she is very smart and figures out the smaller one easy. And, any time my FIL leaves, even if he is just going outside, she whines nonstop, even if I'm still here.

We have two other dogs that were here before she came, so she is never alone.. we have tried leaving her favorite blanket and FIL's shirt in her corner.. she is not interested in toys whatsoever.. None of us have ever made a big deal about coming/going.. I am at a loss here. My other beagle was like this for several months after he came home, but quickly found a routine and has been fine since.

Is there anything else that we can try to help with this? In all honesty, I am fine with having to find solutions to the garbage issues, and giving her extra time outside, etc... It's the constant whining that she is doing while he is gone that is driving me (and I think my other dogs, lol) insane! Thanks for any help!!

  • Foot slightly swollen, just starting to bruise..?

A couple of weeks ago, I noticed my foot swelling pretty good, on up to my knee (right side). As time went on, the swelling had gone down, and now it is just noticable enough to be annoying. The last 3-4 days though, I have noticed some bruising.

The first bruise showed up on top of my ankle, right on the end of an old, deep scar I have. About a day or so ago, that bruise started spreading, even though the swelling has gone down.

Seems odd, but for some reason a few weeks ago at work (I'm a cashier), I started cracking that same ankle. I don't have a clue why, but I did.

Everything I have read online leads to a fracture. Is there a chance that in by cracking that ankle so much I could have caused something like that myself? I haven't done anything recently to cause that type of injury without knowing, and as I said, the swelling has gone down tremendously.

I'm only asking here because I can't get in until next week to have it looked at. Thank you very much for any input..

  • Question regarding a dental bill?

Late last week, I received a bill in the mail for "pulp cap - indirect" for $50. I have a couple of questions about this. My first one being, what exactly does this term mean?

Onto my issue... I had a filling done about 3 months ago. At the time I was told he was going to put some type of medicine under the filling to protect whatever is underneath, and prevent further problems (I'm assuming maybe that's what the bill is for?).

I have medicaid, and at the time I was not working, so I had no income of my own. I did receive child support payments, and social security benefits for my brother. I was completely baffled after seeing the bill, so I called today in question of it, since I'd thought my insurance covered most things.

I was told that this just happened to be something my insurance did not cover, a first for me in my 2 years having it. Still, I didn't think it was a huge issue, I mean it's only $50. However, I'm pretty upset that no one at the dental office told me I might be billed, and now 3 months later - surprise! I was told from someone in the billing dept that if I can prove my wages for the time this was done, they might be able to bring down the bill a little bit. Problem is, I didn't have any wages!

So my questions... Firstly, am I wrong for being upset that no one told me I'd be billed for this? Is there any way to prove my wages from 3 months ago? I plan on setting up a sliding fee with them in case this happens again (since I didn't know until today I could do that). I'm not trying to get out of the bill, I am just upset I didn't know about it until now.

    Thanks for any help!

  • Is this supposed to happen?

I had a wisdom tooth pulled on Monday and went back this morning for check up. While I was there, my dentist put something small and brown in the back of my mouth where the tooth was pulled, but didn't tell me what it was. I'm assuming that I lost my clot and he was packing it. I noticed earlier, though, that it looks like it may be pushing out....Is that supposed to happen? The last thing I want is to have anymore problems with this, and I'm kind of concerned about it...

    Thanks.

  • What tax form?

My fiance and his father recently purchased a home, and will be closing on it within the next 2 weeks. To do this, they had to take out a loan in late 2007. My fiance was also paying off student loans from 2006 and before.

Does he need to include the student loans when filing taxes? Is the loan for the house considered income for 2007? Which form does he need to use to file?

Also - I got custody of my 8 yr old brother last year, but have not worked, and he recieves social security benefits. The amount he got was not taxable - is there any need for me to file?

    Thanks

  • What helps ease diarrhea?

I know this sounds like a really nasty question, and I am sorry to those of you with weak stomachs, but I have a serious question.

About an hour after I got up this morning, I started having terrible stomach cramps, and when I went to the bathroom, obviously started noticing my stool was...well, runny. An hour or two later, after another couple of trips to the bathroom, it became extrememly watery. It has been like that since then, and I cannot so much as pass gas without using the restroom. I laid down for about an hour and a half, and the stomach cramps have eased up a lot, but I'm still making frequent trips to the bathroom.

I know to drink lots of water to help pass it, but is there anything else I should drink or eat that will help? Anything specific I should avoid? I haven't eaten today due to my stomach being so upset, and I'm finally becoming hungry....Obviously I'd love to eat..lol.

Thank you for any and all suggestions in advance. *Serious answers only, please!*

  • Is it a cyst?

My boyfriend noticed earlier today, a large, hard lump behind his left ear. It is a little larger than a dime, and he says that when he touches it, it hurts. I put a warm washcloth on it, and it seemed to take the pain down some, but cold water made it hurt even worse. He took some aspirin a few hours ago, and it seems to have done nothing. I remember my sister having a small cyst on the side of her head years ago, although it was slightly smaller, and I was wondering...could that be what this is? We are calling our local clinic tomorrow morning to see if they will look at it, but he's rather impatient, as you can imagine, to find out what it is. We would really appreciate any suggestions!

  • Do you know what flower this is?

I planted a variety of flowers in my yard about 2 months ago. In each corner, I planted wildflower seeds, containing 8 types of flowers. They are now starting to bloom here and there, so I decided to look some of them up to identify them, seeing as how this is my first garden. Problem is, I have flowers growing that I'm not sure I planted.

So my question is...Do you know? There are about 6 of them, the tallest one being approx 3 ft high. They branch out in many places, with long, fat, somewhat pointed leaves, and very small white flowers that are grouped. As they have grown, the stems have become increasingly red. I would really like to know what these are...so anyone who might have a clue, please let me know, I really appreciate it!

    Thanks!

Note: My wildflowers consist of - Lupine, Annual Baby's Breath, Cornflower, Cosmos, Virginian Stock, Sweet William Catchfly, Mountain Garland and Shirley Poppy.

  • Question regarding medical consent forms?

I am leaving tomorrow from NY to go to Ohio, to get my 8 year old brother. He will be up here until July with us, and we will have no parental rights until then (we go to court for custody in July). I need my father to sign a medical consent form, in case for any reason my brother got hurt. I have a slight problem, though. All the forms I have looked at online require the signature and seal of a notary. My father is in jail, in OH, so how do I go about doing this? I'm not sure if it differs from state to state? Could he write something out for me, with all the info I may need, or is there a free form online that would not require a notary? I don't forsee anything happening in one month, but obviously things happen, and I want to be prepared if anything does. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  • Wisdom teeth issues...?

Okay - I have a serious problem, I think. Last year, while I was on my guardians insurance, I was supposed to have all of my wisdom teeth pulle (my teeth are severely cramped, and there is no room for the extra teeth). They wanted to pull them while they were still soft - but, it never happened. My guardians decided they didn't want to pay for it. Since then, I've moved out. Now, I have two coming in on the left side, top and bottom. The top one seems okay for now, but the bottom has been awful. Every now and then it swells up, like it's infected, until I push out the infection. During this, it seems like it's pulling my gums away from my molar. Also, it appears that there is a bad cavity on it, because it is barely through the gums and I cannot brush it well. I know I need to see a dentist, but I don't have insurance right now. Is there somthing I can do to make the pain lessen?? Anbesol doesn't seem to work very well....Also - is there some other reason this may be happening..?

  • Lump on inner thigh?

My boyfriend has a very large lump on his inner right thigh. I noticed it a while back, and asked if he had done something, or hurt himself somehow. He said no, it had been there quite some time. He says it doesn't hurt or anything, but this lump is quite large (maybe twice the size in diameter of a quarter, give or take a little). My question is - does anyone have any idea what it might be? He has thought about getting it checked out, but has put it off since it doesn't bother him much. Should he have it looked at anyway? I'm not sure what to tell him, because I'm not sure how serious it could be. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Simple ways to lose weight and tone my tummy?

Okay, I've run into a big problem. I made a big move about 8 months ago, and went from being very active, to hardly active at all. When I moved to NY, I had to trash my car, because I didn't have near the money needed to fix it. So, I have not been able to get a job, with my partner and his father having funky schedules.

I am home most of the day, and when my partner comes home we usually go out for a bit and play basketball or something. My question is - what is something that I can do in the morning or afternoon to help lose a little weight I've gained, and get my tummy flatter? I've gained around 20 lbs in 8 months and it's really bringing my self esteem way down. I am 5'6" and weight 170, and I really do need some help. I DO eat right, I'm just not sure what's best as far as excercise goes. I would really appreciate some help - Thanks!

  • Hair styling suggestions?

I've got just a slight natural curl to my hair, and it falls just below my shoulders. I have tried all kinds of things with it, and usually in the end, it winds up down and kinda raggy looking, or just pulled back because I get so frustrated with it. What I would like to know...are there any good ways to get it to dry straight OR curly, that does not involve blow drying or straightening? I'm just now getting rid of all my awful split ends, and don't want to damage it anymore. Does anyone know of other methods/shampoos, etc that I could try to do either of these? Thank you in advance!

  • Hair coloring question?

I really don't know how to ask this, and it's not anything huge, I'm just curious about something. I colored my hair about 3-4 weeks ago. My natural hair color is a dirty blonde/light brown color, and about 6 inches out from the root, it was blonde from a previous coloring. I bought a light brown coloring kit, and did it over this, to even out the tones (who likes to walk around with 6 in roots? lol). Well, 3 weeks later, it's faded - blonde again! I'm quite lost on this one, as my natural hair color is NOT this shade of blonde. Any idea as to why it keeps fading back to this color? I can deal with it, I'm just very curious.

  • Can I find records of property code violation complaints online?

Recently, we were reported for a code violation, because we have "too much junk" in the back yard. My question is - is there a way for us to find out who complained through online research? We have spent the past hour and a half trying to find a site that has some kind of public record, with no luck. I can't even find public records for our county. Is this considered public record? If so, where could I find this information? As I said, we are very curious as to who complained - we've been cleaning the back yard for months, and it's been hard lately with all the snow and cold weather. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • What do you think?

Okay...the past couple weeks I have asked on here what I should do for my very frizzy hair...I've tried many shampoos with no prevalant results. So, what I'm going to do, is get it cut tomorrow. My hair is a little less than halfway down my back, and I've finally talked myself into letting them take off up to 2 inches. I'm thinking of asking if they can layer the back, for two reasons - 1) They can cut more of the split ends without cutting too much hair all at once 2) I can also get some of the coloring cut out.

Do you think that this would look alright? I'm thinking if they take off enough, the split ends won't be so bad, and it might actually look nice...or would the split ends interfere with it? I'm just looking to get some other opinions, I'd love to be able to do this...

    Thanks..

  • What shampoo would you recommend?

Over the past 2-3 years, I have done a lot of damage to my hair. Between coloring and blow drying, they have done quite a number on my hair, and made it very dry and unmanagable. I have tried many types of shampoos, with no signifigant changes. My hair is pretty long, about halfway down my back, so brushing it tends to be a hassle as well. So far I have tried Garnier Fructis, Dove, Sunsilk, and I am now trying Pantene. If the kind I bought does not help, I am planning to get the time renewal. I would like to know, however, what you would suggest. I am not concerned about preserving the coloring in my hair, I just want to find something that will help it hold more moisture and prevent future split ends. Also, if you can recommend a type of brush that might work better for my long hair, that would be great, as I believe that is also a big part of my problem. Serious answers only please!

  • Can over the counter medications for heartburn affect birth control?

I have been on the pill for a month now, and I know that certain antibiotics and prescription drugs can affect how effective birth control is. I am curious, however, if over the counter meds for heartburn/indigestion can alter the effects? I ask because I take these medications on a regular basis, as I am not able to afford prescription meds for it at the moment, and I want to be absolutely sure it will not interfere with my birth control.

    Thanks.
