Simple ways to lose weight and tone my tummy?

Okay, I've run into a big problem. I made a big move about 8 months ago, and went from being very active, to hardly active at all. When I moved to NY, I had to trash my car, because I didn't have near the money needed to fix it. So, I have not been able to get a job, with my partner and his father having funky schedules.

I am home most of the day, and when my partner comes home we usually go out for a bit and play basketball or something. My question is - what is something that I can do in the morning or afternoon to help lose a little weight I've gained, and get my tummy flatter? I've gained around 20 lbs in 8 months and it's really bringing my self esteem way down. I am 5'6" and weight 170, and I really do need some help. I DO eat right, I'm just not sure what's best as far as excercise goes. I would really appreciate some help - Thanks!

Update:

I have loads of time during the day. I am up between 7-8 am, and my partner does not get home until 5:30 pm. I have the occasional load of laundry and dishes, like every one else, but obviously this does not take more than an hour or 2 out of my day, and most certainly does not get me up and moving a lot. Soooo...as I said, I have tons of time. Also, I will have an 8 year old with me soon, so what are some things I can do with him that I could benefit from a little bit, while at the same time keeping him occupied and happy?

I have lost weight by just moving .By that I mean taking steps .When I watch TV I walk back and forward .When using the phone I walk.If you have any stairs in the house use them and each day increase the number of steps.

Watch lifetime with Denise Austen in the morning and do the exercise with her. Just keep moving in the house it does work.

good that you are willing to try just keep positive and the weight will come off and the self esteem will return

    Here are some simple suggestions

    Cut the fat!

Basically, these are the processed fats: hydrogenated fats, polyunsaturated oils that have been heated, and fats that are combined with junk carbs.

    Cut the carbs!

Basically, junk carbs are low-fiber carbs, like sugar, fructose, flour, cornstarch, fruit juice. For example you should eat the whole fruit instead of fruit juice.

    Cut the calories!

Most people do not need an ultra low calorie diet. But just think what your diet would be like if you dropped the processed fats and the low-fiber carbs. You'd be eating mainly natural proteins, with lots of vegetables plus whole fruits - and the odds are that you would be eating far fewer calories as well. That's the kind of calorie cutting most of us should be doing. (Calories table: http://www.weight-loss-choice.com/Food_Calories_Li... )

    Eat a balanced NATURAL-FOODS diet.

By natural foods, I mean lots of whole vegetable foods for vitamins and fiber; moderate to small portions of meats, fish, seafood, and other animal and protein foods, grilled, stewed or baked; and small portions of fresh whole fruit in season. This is the diet on which for the vast majority of people, makes for optimum health.

Additionally read some healthy diet literature for motivation and have some consistent exercise activity. Any good sport will eventually help you lose weight; if there is one that you actually like engaging in, go for it.

Power walking, rowing and biking are very good exercise choices.

Try a cleansing diet! I did and lost 11 pounds and 21 inches in only 9 days. I was very happy with the results and continued on the program and lost 29 pounds in 5 weeks. This is the fastest I have ever lost with other diets like Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Medifast, Slimfast etc…. Cleansing works by removing impurities from your body. You get impurities from your food (pesticides, preservatives, food additives, colorings) water, chemicals, pollution, medications, alcohol, hormones that the animals you eat were fed etc….YUCK! The impurites get coated with fat and remain in your body. To remove the fat, you have to remove the impurites. This system worked for me, maybe it can work for you too. You can check out the website or call this toll free number 1-877-587-4647 for more info. The program is not cheap, but it is worth every penny since it works and keeps you motivated. Good luck! I'm in the same boat you are. What I've found working is doing Pilates or Yoga. Even just walking a couple more times a day will help you burn extra calories. I've switched to Smart Balance Oil, butter etc instead of the "real" stuff. I buy natural products that don't contain trans fat. I don't buy things with Hydrogenated Oil.

Buy a pedometer. Try for 10,000 steps a day :) Good luck!

Do briskwalking round your neighbourhood for 45 minutes to an hour each day. You can do it 3 to 5 times a week. With a healthy diet, your bodyfat will drop. Just be consistent, you will reach your goal. In addition to that you can do some home workouts like push-up, crunches and dips with hands behind your back on a chair. The home workouts should be a separate training with your cardio if possible. But do your cardio please.

Drink lots of water, go for a jog then come home and do crunches and/or lay on your back lifting your head and legs just an inch or two off the floor and hold that position for a bit. It should work out your abs real well

Not sure how much time you have in the day, but if you walk in the morning its a great boost to the day. If you walk for a mile you will burn a lot off, and if you jog a mile it will burn but you wont keep your heart rate up for as long as it takes you to walk a mile. If that makes sense. I just read that on another post. Well, that's the jist anyway. So walking maybe or jogging if you are a runner.

I've lost 5 kilos in my first week. It's my 10th day and I have included salad with some protein (eg. egg/ lean chicken) as you suggested. After 4 years of trying, the fat is finally coming off. It truly feels like magic!

    Get started today!

If ur just going to be home then do crunches (as many as u can a day when ever u can), but if you want to do it outside, then go ut jogging. Running really helps (that's what I do).
