I am an Atheist and an amateur scientist. What more do you need to know.

  • Question about god, sin, and free will.?

Can you find an inconsistency in my reasoning?

Sin exists because of free will.

We have free will because our love would be meaningless without it. God wants us to choose to love him, he did not want robots.

    Now can god sin?

There are only two possible answers.

    1. No he can not sin.

    2. Yes he can sin, but he chooses not to.

    Both answers are non sequiturs.

If he can not sin then he is a robot and his love is meaningless. He also is not omni powerful.

If he can sin but is capable of not sinning, for all eternity, then he could have created humans with this same ability. If he did not do this then he is not omni benevolent.

Is there a flaw in my logic here?

  • So christians you do know that there is no salvation in heaven right?

Now let me explain. The logic that leads to this is amazingly simple.

Why do we have pain? Because of sin.

Why do we have sin? Because we have free will.

Why do we have free will? Because we would be meaningless "robots" with out it.

Now here is the problem when we apply these "facts" to heaven.

(1.) If there is no pain then there is no sin. If there is no sin then there is no free will. If there is no free will in heaven then there was no point in giving us free will in the first place. We would just be "robots".

(2.) If there is free will then we are still doomed to sin. There for the promises of heaven are lies.

So christians what is it? Will you no longer have free will or will you be doomed to sin, just as you are now?

I'm going to give further details to preempt a lot of the lazy answers I receive from this question.

You can't say something like "Well heaven will be so amazing that no one will want to sin."

This is because, if you remember, satan and many angles also lived in heaven and rebelled just as man did.

  • Christians you do know that a ”christian bible basted” morality makes absolutely no sense? Right?

This it's because all moral law comes from god.

But there are only two ways god can determine what is moral and what is not.

(1). There is a correct answer to a moral question. God simply tells us what the answer is. The problem here is that the moral answer already exist. Here we find that god is completely unnecessary. We could simply discover the answer on our own.

(2). Things are only moral because god says that they are. I.e. brutally killing children is moral in the old testament, because god says it is, and is no longer moral in the new testament, because god says that it no longer is. The problem here is that morality becomes completely arbitrary.

So how can any religion defend a statement like "All morality can only come from our god."? How can they claim the "moral high ground" when there morality is ether completely arbitrary or is clearly defined with out a god?

  • What is the easiest way to figure this out? Simple math, kinda.?

Start with 1 and add it to the next number 2 then add that to 3 and so on. Now if you take a number like 210 or 560 what is the easiest way to find what the next number in the chain will be. Is there any other way besides adding 1+2+3+4+5+6 etc. until you get to one of those numbers?

  • Why are pro-lifers so obsessed with the hands and feet of fetuses?

I have recently come across all these anti abortion videos on YouTube. I have noticed two themes.

    1. Showing new born babies and late-term abortions. When they are talking about abortions and what the fetus is like. Late-term abortions are very rare. Only about one percent of all abortions performed in the United States occur after 21 weeks. They can only be preformed if the woman's life is endangered. 88% are between 12- 13 weeks. Needless to say this is

    that extremely dishonest.

    2. Now this is so strange. For some reason they are obsessed with showing picture after picture of fetal and new born hands and feet.

I guess I have two questions.

    1. Do they know that they are being misleading and dishonest? Or are they just ignorant of the facts?

    2. Why do they show hads and feet so much? Is it because hands and feet are the only things that look remotely ”human” for most of the fetal development?

  • Why do creationists think that Evolution is still up for debate?

There are massive amounts of evidence. From fossils, taxonomy, comparative anatomy, genetic evidence all supporting evolution. Not to mention all the experiments that fully support evolution. We understand more about the mechanisms behind evolution than the theory of gravity.

For over 150 years the theory of evolution has only becom stronger. How can people still be so ignorant about this?

  • A question about Genesis for all Christian fundamentalists?

Before reading the rest of this keep this in mind.

    1. A human's understanding of, if they should or should not, Do or Do Not are depended on an understanding of morality. You know that you should do good things and not do evil things only because you have an understand of morality. If someone tells you to do something you can judge it's morality and act accordingly. Without morality Do and Do not become arbitrary.

    2. God is defined as being loving, morale, merciful, omnipotent, and omniscient. If he ever fails to be any of these things he will no longer be God.

    Ok lets start!

    Genesis 2:17

"But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die."

    Genesis 3:22

God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil."

You can see from these that man did not have any knowledge of good and evil, until after they ate the fruit. Here in lies the problem. If they did not know right from wrong, good from evil, how can god morally hold them accountable?

You can not punish someone for doing something wrong, evil, if they can not understand the concept of right, wrong, good, or evil.

"The man has NOW become like one of us, knowing good and evil."

God commanded them for something they could not understand is immoral. There for god is not morale, loving, merciful, omnipotent, or omniscient. Now god no longer fulfills the criteria for being a God.

So if you take the account of Genesis is literal you are faced with this paradox.

How could a moral, loving, omnipotent god chose to kill someone when they lack the capability to even understand the concept behind there crime?

  • Two questions about understanding morality?

    PART 1.

I am going to pose a question and then answer it. Please tell me if you can find any fault in my reasoning.

Question: How do humans know the difference between, the implications behind, Yes and No?

Answer: Yes and No are arbitrary words in and of themselves. We know the difference because of what the word implies. Yes implies approval or allowance, "Good". No implies disapproval or forbidden, "Bad". To know Yes from No you need to be able to know the difference between Good and Bad. We understand Good and Bad threw morals.

    PART 2.

Can you answer this question for me?

Is it morally right to offer a deal, or a command, to someone; that will negatively effect them, if they are not capable of understanding the negative consequences of there action? I.E. Making a land deal that will greatly favor you. With someone that does not understand the concept of ownership.

  • God, Adam, Eve, good, and evil?

    Genesis 2:17

But you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die.

    Genesis 3:22-24

God said, “The man has now become like one of us, knowing good and evil. He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever.” 23 So the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden to work the ground from which he had been taken. 24 After he drove the man out, he placed on the east side of the Garden of Eden cherubim and a flaming sword flashing back and forth to guard the way to the tree of life.

Now you can see from these that man did not have any knowledge of good and evil.

"Now" this means that before they eat from the tree they were not like god, they did not know of good and evil.

Also here is a strange point if we look at

"He must not be allowed to reach out his hand and take also from the tree of life and eat, and live forever."

    And compare it to

"for when you eat from it you will certainly die."

You can clearly see that god lied. Man dieing is 100% god's choice. The tree didn't kill man god decided to deny him access to the tree of life. This means that god could also have chosen to allow man to eat from the tree.

    So there are two questions.

    1. How could a moral, loving, omnipotent god chose to kill someone when they lack the capability to even understand the concept behind there crime?

    2. How can a moral, loving, omnipotent god lie; or at the very least miss lead, someone?

  • How have humans effected, negatively or otherwise, our Evolutionary changes threw out our history?

Given things like the massive amounts of extra hormones, from meat. That may change, not only epigenetic traits, our pheromone signals, that we use to detect mostly different immune systems. Huge amounts of the population getting plastic surgery, that changed symmetric clues we use to pick strong genetic traits. Also many other things like obesity, smoking, drug addiction, ever changing gene flow within and between regions etc.

So how has this effected us in the past and how will this affect us in future generations?

Any studies on this will be greatly appreciated.

  • Creationists did you know that you are uneducated?

Now before you flag me look at this.

    http://www.gallup.com/poll/21811/american-beliefs-...

This poll, and a few others, shows that the likely hood of someone being a creationist is directly related to the amount of time spent in a church but also by the persons level of education.

If you take a look at the answers of more educated people on this site regarding evolution/ the big bang etc. you will see that most of them are simply debunking a creationists misconception of evolution/ the big bang etc. This is because, for the most part, you are under educated about the pertaining subject and have instead been given miss information.

So dose any of this surprise you?

  • Creationist did you know that your right and Evolution is a lie!?

    Humans Evolved from monkeys/Chimpanzees.

Plants & animals only Evolve to become bigger and stronger.

Evolution says that all life came from a rock.

There are no transitional forms alive today or in the fossil record.

Evolution has never been observed. Etc.

All of this and in fact every Creationist argument I have ever heard is a complete and utter lie. You see if Evolution actually said any of these things no scientist would ever defend it. Also we would not risk people's lives on pharmaceuticals/medical advances that are biased on Evolution. The truth is that these are all misinterpretations or out right lies.

So yes Creationists your understanding of Evolution is a lie.

Luckily the facts behind Evolution are overwhelming. This is why the vast majority of scientist agree on the evidence for Evolution by Natural Selection.

So why do you insist on just repeating the same lies instead of looking into the facts yourself?

  • Creationists: why don't you know that all life comes from non life?

This fact is at the base of all Biology, chemistry. Your DNA, RNA, ribosomes, proteins (I.E. everything that your body is build out of) are nothing more than Hydrogen, Covalent, Polar Covalent, and Ionic bonds, that naturally occur.

In short you(Life) are nothing more than chemical(Non Life) reactions. So there you have it Life from Non Life.

  • Why don't Christians address the most obvious hole in the Jesus myth?

I'm going to put aside the vast amount of inconsistencies and contradictions that are peppered throughout the four books that cover the Jesus myth.

I will just focus on one. Jesus' birth is only covered by two of the books. The funny thing is that apparently the long long long lists of genealogy records in the new and old testament are all there to show that Jesus came from Abraham and David threw Joesph.

But this is all pointless because Jesus has not farther. David's blood line is moot he did not father Jesus. God is his father/him so the blood line should have fallen threw Marry, her's is the only blood in Jesus. The writers could not even make there myth coherent.

So there is it short and sweet. The accounts in the new testament ether contradict or fail to full fill the prophecies of the old testament. So christians why do you chose to over look this simple fact?

  • Christians can you answer my Faith paradox?

First we must define the meaning of Faith.

”Strong belief in God or in the doctrines of a religion, based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof.”

Now as christians vehemently point out science can not disprove a god. I to agree with this I would just go one step further. Science can not disprove a god, but it can give the probability of a god's existence. This probability is next to .1% and seems to shrink with every new scientific brake threw. So I think we can agree that science does not factor into a belief of any god.

What you are left with is Faith. Now there is a grand paradox associated with Faith, that few people seem to take notice of.

So here is the grand paradox, this is what my question pertains to, Faith because it is not based of facts can be used for any beliefs and they are all equally valid, note they are not actually valid when compared to scientific beliefs. Now because every religion and there gods are based on Faith we have a problem.

This means that God, Jesus, Allah, Thor, Zeus etc. and even the believe in things like Fairies, Unicorns, Dragons etc. are all (this is important) equally valid because they are all based on the same Faith. So this is the paradox, for get about proving the existence of a god to a scientist, how do you prove that YOUR brand of god is right and everyone else's brand is wrong? How can you disprove Faith using Faith? Everyone that claims Faith is equally right, or wrong, as anyone ells, from the beliefs in the God's of Abraham to the believers of Fairies. Why do you think your Faith is more valid or well informed? Can you not see that ”they” can give the exact answer you do?

So there it is the paradox and the question. Note that any answers using the bible, the holy spirit, god, jesus etc. is not acceptable because they are all predicated by your Faith.
