  • Using a curtain as a closet door?

I have a utility/storage closet in my apartment currently has bi-fold closet doors. The problem is that I keep my cats' litter box in there, so I have to keep the door open for them to go in and out. The closet isn't super cluttered, but it isn't exactly attractive, so I would rather keep it covered. I am thinking of putting up a curtain, but how should I go about doing this? Will a curtain get in the way when it's time to drag out the Christmas decorations? Any insight is appreciated.

  • Gun people help me out here?

I have pretty limited experience with guns, but am interested in getting more experience with them and learning about them. I have fired rifles before and been to a firing range once with a handgun. I think its necessary to know about guns in order to have a healthy respect for them, and also because as a single woman living alone in a somewhat dangerous city, I think those would be good skills to have.

What handgun would you recommend for a single girl with limited experience? Would you recommend joining a club? How would you start if you were me?

  • Don't you just hate the Internet?

Ha ha, no this is not a question where we all rant about how much we hate troll questions. The reason I hate the Internet is: after much research (including visiting the dogs and speaking to the workers), I decided that an ex-racing greyhound was perfect for my lifestyle and activity level. I am waiting to get one until there is a little more stability in my life, so in the meantime, to satisfy my need to have dogs in my life, the Internet led me discover the Carolina Dog breed. After reading about them, I came to the conclusion that these dogs are also quite suitable for me, AND have the advantage of being considerably smaller. Now I can't decide which one is a better fit. CURSE YOU INTERNET AND YOUR OVERSTIMULATION!!!

Both breeds are easy to find where I live, but it's not so easy for me to find a Carolina Dog to meet in person. Does anyone know anything about these dogs? The main source of information is the somewhat shady website that also breeds them. Pros/cons of this dog?

  • Training a dominant dog?

Let me just say that I do not and have never owned a dominant or aggressive dog breed (or dog for that matter). This is a matter of curiosity. Recently I have read some answers that outline training methods for very dominant dogs that are shocking to the average dog owner. I just want a realistic view of the situation: are these methods standard for a dominant dog? Can you train such a dog with training techniques like positive reinforcement if they are properly socialized as a puppy?

The training techniques I am talking about are cutting off a dog's air supply, using force, etc. Please only answers from people who deal with dominant dogs. I am just trying to get a more complete view of dog ownership.

  • Light for a lime tree?

I live in Florida, so humidity is no problem, but the only place outside for my tree is my south-facing porch which has a large overhang preventing it from getting adequate sunlight. What kind of grow lights do I need to groe it inside? I'm so confused between full-spectrum fluorescent, metal halide, compact fluorescent etc. etc. Somebody decipher this for me please!

  • Apparently healthy african violet losing flowers?

I have an african violet in my kitchen window facing north (my south window is shaded) whose leaves appear to be healthy. However, one by one, the flowers are turning brown and falling off. For watering, I water from the top (never on the leaves) and let it dry out in between; the pot is on a humidity dish. Are the flower dropping normal or am I killing my plant?

  • Which cat food should I try? Raw diet maybe?

Ok. I currently feed my cat a combo of Blue Buffalo Spa Select wet and dry. I know all the problems with dry, I just like the idea of her being able to free-feed, mostly because I honestly can't afford to feed her strictly wet. Because of this, I've been looking at other, lower-priced premium foods like Wellness and Natural Balance. Which of these would you recommend, and why? Also, is it a good idea to rotate the brands to add some variety?

One more thing: I'm interested in learning about a raw diet, and I would like to know people's experience with cost of feeding raw and convenience of preparing the food and obtaining it.

  • Playing uncompressed Quicktime?

I have video that was sent to me as uncompressed Quicktime that I have to watch for work. When I try to play it in Quicktime, it tells me I have to download extra components, and sends me to the Quicktime website, but doesn't tell me which components I need. I have the latest free version of Quicktime, but not Quicktime Pro. I've tried playing it in Divx, RealPlayer and Veoh, but it just plays a black screen with no audio.

I looked it up online, but I don't know enough about computers to understand what to do when someone talks about codecs and whatnot. Somebody please explain to me what I need to do, in easy terms. I'm totally dumb when it comes to this stuff.

    Thanks!

    P.S. I have a MacBook.

  • To all the piercees out there...?

I have both traguses pierced, for almost 4 years now. My boss wants me to hide/remove them for work, but I'm afraid of them closing up. If I take them out for 10 hours or so, will they close or should I invest in some clear posts? Are there places to buy clear posts online anyway?

    Thanks in advance.

  • Question for pet foster families?

I have heard foster parents of animals say that they are "failing" with that animal. I originally thought that meant that the foster parent was failing to get the animal accustomed to home life and was having behavior problems with the animal. Recently, I read something which leads me to think that failing with a foster means that the parent is becoming attached to the animal and might just make it a pet. What does it typically mean? I'm curious because many rescue groups that I look at do foster care instead of a shelter.

  • How to get into pony polo?

I have been riding for a while doing hunter-jumper and I would love to learn polo. **Pony polo, not water, canoe, elephant, bicycle or whatever** However, I would like to avoid country clubs as I am not rolling in dough. Are there any directories for American clubs online? Or if anyone is familiar with South Florida, are there any clubs that you can recommend?

  • Pet-safe plants for water garden?

Hi there! I am planning on growing an indoor water garden, but I have been unable to find specific information on which aquatic plants are safe for pets (a cat, specifically) and which are not. I have been to the ASPCA website and several others, but they seem lacking on water plant info. Also, if there are any pet-safe houseplants that will grow well in water, let me know. Thanks!
