Could my kitten be "slow"?
I have 2 kittens that were born on Feb 2, Hiccup and Toothless. Toothless was originally the runt but at about 4 weeks old when I tried weening them from the bottle Hiccup stopped eating. He lost too much weight and was severely dehydrated. He wouldn't walk or eat or anything, he just sat there and put his head down and closed his eyes. He went downhill like that very quickly over a weekend. I quickly switched him back to the bottle and took him to the vet for fluids. At 5 weeks old he was weighed again and only weighed half a pound, but that was an improvement. He is doing great now with his eating. They are both switched over to regular kitten food and eating plenty, although is still half the size of Toothless. My concern is the way he acts. He doesn't play like Toothless does, he mostly just sits around and looks. His eyes look so big and distant like he is confused. He will sometimes try to run and play like his brother but he just doesn't quite understand what to do. Could he have some brain damage from his dehydration? Could he just simply be mentally retarded?
1 AnswerCats6 years agoMy dog ate chocolate! What should I do?
Edison, my 50 lb bearded collie, got into brownies while I was gone. It was about half a pan of slutty brownies, which is chocolate chip cookie dough on bottom, a layer of oreos, then a layer of fudge brownies, and then there's a thin layer of hot fudge on top. He ate it sometime yesterday while I was gone and I found vomit when I got home. He vomited throughout the night and has been vomiting today. Other than the vomiting he seems normal.. maybe just a little restless but I figure his tummy is hurting. I'm not sure if this vomiting is due to poisoning or just an upset stomach from all the sugar. It's been at least 18 hrs since he ate the chocolate.. so are we out of the woods now?
3 AnswersDogs6 years agoTreating a dehydrated kitten?
Mr. Boo is about 4 weeks old. I've been feeding him milk replacement with a syringe but starting yesterday he hasn't been eating much. He ate a whole 15 mLs this morning so I thought he was better, but he hasn't eaten anything since then. His gums are very very light pink and he is breathing heavy. So what can I do to get him rehydrated?
3 AnswersCats6 years agoWhy is my kitten's eye getting stuck?
This kitten (Mr. Boo) is around 3 weeks old. His eyes have been open for about a week and a half now. But yesterday morning one of his eyes was stuck. I wiped it with a warm rag and he was able to open it. And this morning it was partially closed but not all the way. Neither of his eyes seem gooey or nasty or anything so why would that happen? Also, he has coccidia and is taking Albon to treat it, I wondered if this eye problem could be a side effect of the medicine? He's been taking the Albon for 3 days now and is still having diarrhea so I'm not convinced it's even working
2 AnswersCats7 years agopossible drug overdose?
A family member took 400 mg of ambien, 150 mg of lyrica, and a regular dose of benadryl. Is this gonna cause a serious problem right away? I know it's too much, but what can actually happen?
2 AnswersMedicine7 years agoHow much should a kitten eat?
So I am fostering a kitten who is 13 days old. He likes to sleep a lot and the vet told me to let a sleeping baby sleep, he will let me know when he's hungry. So he wakes up to eat about every 4 hours and each time he eats 6 mLs of the formula. I know that's more than he should be eating at this age but since he's going so long between feedings I think it's ok. However, he would keep eating after that 6 mLs if I would let him, I just always cut him off after that. So my question is, am I right to limit his formula? Or should I feed him til he won't eat anymore? He tries to suckle on me after he finishes his meal but I'm not sure if that means he's still hungry or it's just a comfort thing.
5 AnswersCats7 years agoWhat kind of dog breed does this look like?
I'm sure she's probably a mixed breed. And I also believe she was used, or attempted to be used, for coon hunting. Does anybody have any idea what kind of breed she may have in her?
4 AnswersDogs7 years agoWhat would cause my dog to have a hacking cough only in the mornings.?
I have a 6-7 year old bearded collie named Edison. The last couple of weeks he has developed this dry hacking type of cough in the mornings and it seems like something is going to come up with it but it never does. He has not been boarded or anything lately so I highly doubt it is kennel cough. So what else would cause this?
