  • How long will it take boiling water to cool to 80°C?

I have a litre of water boiling in my kettle. When it boils I open the lid of the kettle, which exposes a round surface area with about a 10cm diameter. The kettle cheap, so although it's metal it's not well insulated. Room temperature is 20°C. I just want to know an approximate time to wait until the water is about 80°C. I think I've given all the information you might need, but if not then just make assumptions, because the time doesn't need to be exact.

By the way, this isn't for homework or anything, I just want to brew some white tea and I don't have a thermometer.

  • Where can I get old school games like Road Rash and Marble Drop?

On my old computer (windows 98 or 95, I can't remember) I had a bunch of demos of really cool games, and I don't know if I can still get them anywhere. I remember Road Rash and Marble Drop in particular, as well as the coolest rock-band-themed pinball you've ever seen. Did anyone else have this set? I think there might have also been a game called Cool Spot.

  • What is the best kind of wetsuit for scuba diving?

I have a diving license but I've never dived anywhere cold enough to need a wetsuit. I want to know what kind of wetsuit goes most comfortably with the scuba gear - knees and elbows cut-off? Full length? Sleeveless?

  • What is the difference between a motif and a symbol in a fictional novel?

I'm studying "Siddhartha" in English and I know that the river, the smile, and the shadow are important, but I don't know if they're motifs or symbols. You don't have to have read "Siddhartha" to answer the question, I'm sure if I get a good enough answer I can figure it out for myself.

    Thanks :)

  • Hardcore gamers, help with present for boyfriend!?

Ok, I need a Christmas present for my boyfriend and I am about the worst person EVER at buying for people.

I'm thinking an Xbox game, because he has an Xbox 360 and he loves playing it, but I need some help with games! So here's my question: what game can I get him? Here's some info to help:

    - He loves blood/gore and anything "totally badass" would be perfect.

    - A while ago he god Gears of War 2 and loved it. He also loves Far Cry (I know that's not Xbox but you get the idea)

    - I think he liked the first-person-shooteriness of Halo, but didn't like the setting with the aliens.

Please help me with this, I could really use some ideas!

  • Does semen do anything good/bad for your health?

Come on, I don't want any "ew that's so gross" answers, I'm serious. I heard somewhere that they use a chemical found in semen for anti-age products, is there really something good in it? Or, for that matter, something bad?

  • What is the best way to build upper body strength?

I need an activity that I can do every day relatively easily, and that doesn't cost anything (so not dance classes, etc).

Exercises that I can do inside would be ideal because i can do them before I go to bed :)

  • Question about possible pregnancy, cycles, and periods...?

    Ok.

I've been on the pill for about a year, and my cycle has always been a regular 28 days since I've been on it. My pill is one of those ones where you stop taking it for a week in order to have your period. My last pill for this cycle was on Saturday night (two nights ago) and my period should start this Wednesday, that's what it always does.

However, yesterday I had unprotected sex when I wasn't planning to and I'm not sure if I'm covered. Is there a possibility I could be pregnant? I don't know when my ovulation date is, but maybe someone could work it out for me....

Should I just wait until Wednesday and then see?

  • Question about acid deposition?

Ok, my Chemistry textbook is useless for this.

I've figured out that the two main acids in acid rain are oxides of nitrogen and oxides of sulfur. However, the question asks me which one of these comes mainly from coal burning and which one comes from internal combustion engines, and I don't know! This is a year 11 question, so I only need up to that standard.

Please help! I don't need any references, it's not a research project, but please don't answer if you're only guessing because I would like to get it right and wrong answers will only confuse me. Thanks :)

  • What are some unusual/unique baby names?

I've always known that I want to have three kids, it doesn't matter what sex they are, and I've always wanted them to have unusual names. Not so unusual that they are unpronounceable, or that they will get teased for them, but unusual enough that they will be unique and memorable.

I've got my heart set on only one name at the moment: Alethia, for a girl. It means "truth" in Ancient Greek. It's pronounced a-LEH-thee-a, with the "th" soft, as in "three".

I'm looking for two more girls names and three boys names (you know, to allow for any combination of girls and boys). Thanks for your suggestions!

  • How do you understand a dictionary?

When you find a dictionary word, what are all the little symbols, abbreviations, etc that go with the definition? Where can I find a site that will tell me what all of these mean?

  • What is a Peloponnesian minute?

"He comes on with his big innocent farmboy routine, but I could see through that in a Peloponnesian minute." Said by Megara in Hercules.

I've looked up "Peloponnesian" but all it comes up with is stuff about the war. Why does she use "Peloponnesian" minute? What makes that kind of minute so different to a normal kind? I assume she means it's a very short amount of time, but why use that phrase specifically? Are there any historical references to it?

I am moving house, and I have a whole heap of jewelry and stuff I want to get rid of. I had a friend tell me it is no use just putting it on eBay, because eBay is so massive that no-one will ever find my stuff. Where can I advertise for free on the internet where people will read it?

  • Vegetarians and Vegans unite!?

Hello, fellow vegetarians/vegans! I want to know why you eat the way you do. Is it because you don't like meat? Or do you have moral reasons? I'm just curious, I'm not going to be judgemental or anything.

  • Ok! Response to an "ugly" joke.?

Two men are in a supermarket. They have both lost their wives somewhere among the isles and they decide to look together. The first man says, "What does your wife look like?" The second man says, "Well, she's tall and thin, with blonde wavy hair and tanned skin, and she has blue eyes and really red lips. She's an ex-model, and she's about twenty-seven. Today she's wearing a thin white tank-top, a leopard-skin mini-skirt and red high-heels and is carrying a red bag. She has a tattoo of a butterfly in the small of her back and she has a red jewel in her belly-button ring. What does your wife look like?"

The second man pauses for a bit and then says, "Never mind, let's look for yours."

  • This is a Public Apology?

I would just like to publicly apologise for a "joke" that I posted a few weeks ago. It was a crude and very discriminative joke and it was subsequently banned. I didn't really see why to begin with but on further contemplation I understood.

For anyone who saw the joke, I would like to say sorry. This question doesn't really apply to people who didn't see the joke, but I am certainly not going to repeat myself. Also, this "question" doesn't really require an answer, and I won't be picking any best answer. Thanks for reading anyway.

  • English grammar help!?

I know that an adjective describing a noun is simply an "adjective", and one describing a verb is an "adverb". What is the grammatical name given to an adjective describing an adjective?

Eg 1. "Very". Something is "very good", "very bad".

Eg 2. "Oddly". Something is "oddly tasty", "oddly beautiful".

Eg 3. "-ishly" words. Some thing is "pink-ishly purple", "yellow-ishly green".

I hope you can make sense of my mental ooze......
