  • finding a book for my wife?

Quite some time ago (measuring in years) my wife had a book that told the story of a young girls life prior to and after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Unfortunately she lent the book out and never received it back (hate that!!) Her problem is she can neither remember title nor author.

    The basic plot runs

    • young girl finds herself in San Francisco

    • Landlord want favours in place of rent

    • Girl falls into life as prostitute to pay rent

    • Finds a lover

    • His family finds out about her history, and upset ensues

    • Earthquake hit

    • Both lovers think each other has been killed in the quake

    • But find each other at end of story

If anyone can point to likely titles it would help

    Thanks

  • Is it theoretically possible to construct a light sabre?

Sci-fi has given us many interesting ideas, some have become reality. From Star Trek's automatic sliding doors (now seen in shops) to personal communicators or as we call them cell phones. A lot of other concepts such as genetic engineering, matter trannsportation, and phased partical weaponry are in their infant experimentation stage. Other concepts such as faster than light travel work in theory, but we do not have the technology to make them reality. So in theory do we have any idea on how to construct a fully functioning Star Wars light sabre? This should inclued adjustment facilities for blade length and blade power intensity.

  • How do you dismantle an Obi Wan light saber? Hasbro not MR!?

I have a few Master Replica Light Sabers, but couldn't find an Obi Wan by Master Replica. So like an idiot I bought a Hasbro model that is now not working. Do any of you know how to dismantle one or of any companies (in the UK if you can) that maybe able to fix it.

  • self defence in UK Law use of weapons?

I am under the impression that any item carried for the purpose of causing injury is classed as offensive. If a Kubotan (short metal, plastic or wood stick about 8 - 9 inch in length) on a key ring is carried for the sole purpose of making the location of you keys easier, and that is the only reason you carry it, is this still an offensive weapon? and can your own knowledge have an impact on the classification of an item as an offensive weapon, eg through my training I know how to use a comb as an effective knife, dose that make a comb an offensive weapon in my hands?
