SUBSONIC FALLOUT.... or.... EMPIRIUS
4 AnswersRock and Pop8 years agoIs it not deductive reasoning?
Many religions exist. They are fundamentally incompatible. Even if one if any is even close to accurate, it is deductive reasoning to conclude all other religions are false. Therefore, it is inescapable to not only accept that false religions can come into existence and glow tremendous in popularity and devoutness, but that considering the sheer number of religions and mythologies of the past AND present, it would be irrational to believe the one you so coincidentally were brought up in were accurate, that YOU were the lucky one out of the billions of human beings that have existed on this planet before.... Also, considering that so many religions AND mythologies, including Islam, Christianity, Greek Mythology, Hinduism, etc ALL contain shocking similarities in their uses of literary devices, archetypes, story elements, symbology.... Furthermore considering that we understand that mythologies arise to address questions born from ignorance; e.g. myths about the Sun or the Mayan creation story (or indeed any of the countless native creation stories of various tribes and peoples)... Is it not only rational to think all religions (as opposed to all religions "erhm... well except mine of course") are mythologies? Do not think your personal experiences make your religion real. Someone of another religion will have experienced the same kinds of feelings. Do not think you possess "special knowledge". You do not have a superior connection to the Univese. Do not assume you're right without thinking critically. Such assumptions foster arrogance and shield misconceptions.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoWhat should I change my band name to?
We're currently going by SUBSONIC FALLOUT. Chances are, you wouldn't like the genre, but we're kind of a combination of deathcore, post-hardcore, and lots of elecronica (including dubstep.) Here's a sample of our music: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-1jZV9LrPA
I like the name HYPERIUS, however it's the name of some boss in Borderlands 2 or something. We want a name that sounds like it came straight out of the future. Should we avoid using HYPERIUS? Our music usually references science, cosmology, ancient cultures, psychology, mythologies, and physics. Any ideas? PLEASE HELP :p I'm too picky for my own good.

1 AnswerVideo & Online Games8 years agoA Question for Science lovers, dubstep lovers, deathcore lovers, and wordsmiths.?
I have a band that is in need of a new name. We are a deathcore/progressive/post-hardcore/dubstep/electronica/deathstep/experimental band. Our goal is to make music that sounds like it came straight out of the future, and we want a name that reflects that. We are huge science lovers and we write about the cosmos, physics, cosmology, string theory, etc... We love to incorporate mythology and references to ancient culture in our metaphors. We are not religious and our music also reflects that. Here's a list of band NAMES we really like that have the kind of aesthetic we're looking for but are either too cliche or are taken: Genghis Tron, Novatron, Optimus Gryme, Aphex Twin, etc... Here's a list of words, terms, suffixes and prefixes we just love the sound of: positronic, quantum, nova, hyper, flux, matrix, cosmic, solar, stellar, event horizon, alpha, gamma, omicron, epsilon, omega, delta, quasar, drive, spectrum, words like that. Basically anything that sounds like a name from Transformers or something. Well, that's all I can think of for now! If you would like to hear our current stuff, just look up "Subsonic Fallout - I, Prometheus" on YouTube (I named my yahoo alias after our song of the same name) "I, Prometheus" would be a kinda cool name as well, ehh...

Does the graphic design of my levels look too earthly? This game is supposed to take place on a distant primitive alien planet far in the future.
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games8 years agoHow can one rationally believe in the existence of the soul?
If we were both a mind and a soul, then who we are would not be entirely dependent on the functionality of the brain. Consider what we know about certain mental disorders such as schizophrenia. Consider that some brain injuries can cause people to lose entire dimensions of who they once were forever, can cause them to lose the ability to read or understand language, as if the very software of the mind, if you will, has been corrupted. Consider the simple fact that drugs can change our personalities, and cause us to hallucinate, distorting not just our sensory input, but rather how we actually process it. When the human brain is altered, the mind too is altered in ways that reveal it to be a complex system of individual functions that are like building blocks that collectively form our conscious mind. Blind-sight is a good example; people intuitively assume that we see what is in view of our eyes, simple as that, as if the image we see is directly observed without need for processing. However, in people who are blind sighted, their eyes are fully functional and the brain can see an image, and even react to it subconsciously, but the brain does not relay that information to the conscious mind, so the individual cannot tell you what is being seen and instead report having no vision. Doesn't the nature of the dysfunctional brain reveal that all we are is only a simulated phenomenon of the brain? We see the healthy conscious mind as something ethereal... because it is all together and forms a single experience. Much like a movie can convey a single world within a scene... but when the illusion is given away, for example by a cameraman caught in a reflection or a traumatic brain injury in the case of the brain, the illusion is broken and the true nature of the experience is revealed. How to believers in the soul confront the fact that the nature of the soul is entirely repentant on the health of the physical brain? Why have a soul if the evidence shows that everything we are is in our brain? How can one rationally believe in the existence of the soul? Is it not more rational to say that the 'soul' is simply the word we use to describe the conscious experience and is not in reality some kind of ectoplasmic thing that exists apart from our bodies?
11 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoIn the Christian mythology, why does God create a universe that includes suffering?
If he is all powerful, what role could suffering possibly play? Don't tell me we must suffer to enjoy happiness or something, as such a rule could too be changed by God... it's his creation, after all. How is a universe with pain and suffering more perfect than one without? I'm not talking about just the Earth either, I mean Hell as well. If I were to die and somehow go to Heaven, how would I enjoy it knowing that for all eternity, God will continue to permit the existence of Hell?
Is this not immoral? If I had the power to end the eternal, unending, outrageously disproportionate suffering of billions of people, I would. I don't care how much of a dick they were when on Earth... they're dead now! . Maybe that's the difference between how I see morality and how God must see it.
I mean, while reincarnation is just as irrational, if it were true it would be a much more ethical system of what to do with your soul when you die.
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoIn regards to fundamentalist Christianity and other religions.?
Why to moderate Christians denounce fundamentalists, yet see no reason to place some of the blame on the FUNDAMENTALS themselves? The same goes to Muslims. Many progressive, moderate Muslims denounce suicide bombers, yet do not find anything wrong with Islamic texts calling for the death of infidels. Is it not clearly the fundamentals and not just the fundamentalist? After all, there is much to fear of a strict biblical literalist, such individuals have become proud serial killers based on literal interpretation! The same applies to fundamentalist Muslims who truly see that their is a moral imparitive to kill someone who draws a picture of Mohommad. Surely it is the fundamentals themselves... what do we have to fear of a fundamentalist Jainist? Such a person wouldn't hurt a damn insect. Sure, their ideas of reincarnation and karma may lead to poor decision making, but I'm not concerned about a Jain-led war against another differently religiously or politically affiliated group or country.
Where is the disconnect and why?
