  • Does this sound good?

I'm filling out a scholarship form and I have to give a paragraph on what makes me a good college student. This is what I'm wanting to put:

I'm a great college student because of my determination to complete my degree and become someone. I come from a challenged upbringing due to lack of money and I want to prove anyone can be someone regardless of how much money they grew up with. I also want to obtain a career in teaching because I think quality education is the key to bringing an end to many of the world's problems like poverty. I believe I can provide this much needed quality and this scholarship will be a great help.

Please give any feedback and corrections you see are needed.

  • What should I call my Betta?

He's a deep blood red on his fins and he fades to pale pinkish white on his body. He isn't shiny. Kinda matte. Yeah it might seem weird to name a fish but hey might as well.

  • How to go about moving fish?

I'm buying an established tank from somebody. It's sixty gallons and has three fish. How do I move the tank. Should I keep all the water or a few buckets of the water or none of it? How should I move the fish? How can I reduce the stress of the move? Any other information would be great.

  • Question about sixty gallon tank?

In the next month I'm getting a sixty gallon tank. It's coming with two goldfish (4 inches each) and a pleco (4 inches). I already have a nine inch pleco and two one inch comet goldfish. I know plecos need a heater but i've read they can handle cooler temperatures very well. Will this set up work (I'll be moving goldfish out to a pond when I get it built)? If I add a heater for a ten gallon aquarium and a thirty gallon will this warm the water to a temperature safe for both species? Any other info would be great. What should I add when I move the goldfish out?

  • Why are his fins getting ragged?

Ok so my Male Betta's fins are looking a bit ragged. I did a 25% water change the day before yesterday. I treated the water and tested the PH and it's pretty neutral, a little high but that's normal with my water (well water). He has silk plants in the tank so the tears and raggedness can't be from snags and he doesn't have any sharp decorations. Could it be from to much current?

  • TV chefs, cooks, and salt?

It seems they add so much salt that the food would be too salty. Do they use a certain type of salt or what?

  • Is this Betta Healable?

So I saw a Betta at WalMart and he had this blueish white blob of stuff on his side. I felt so sorry for him. What is it and can I make him better?

Yeah I would buy a fish from WalMart. It is my wish to see no fish at WalMart because they are a grocery store and the only fish they should sell are frozen fish to eat but one person isn't going to do much so I might as well rescue as many as I can.

  • Question about tank water and hands?

Okay so I was moving some plant around my tank today and my sister saw me and said I shouldn't put my hand in the tank with the fish in there. She also said that I should only put my hands in the tank water when I'm changing it out. I've never heard this before and the way she put it it kinda makes sense. Do bacteria on hands cause a problem with the tank or is she being a know it all? I've always put my hands in the tank with the fish in there when I have to make a quick change like fixing the gravel or moving a plant.

  • Tank questions with fish questions?

Okay so currently I have two tanks set up, a five gallon Betta tank and a thirty gallon with a large Pleco and two one inch Comets and one one inch Common Goldfish. I know that the Gold and Comets need a lot more room but I also know they double in size every year so I'm fine for about the next two years in this Pleco/Gold/Comet setup. I have a ten gallon tank that isn't being used that my Pleco outgrew. I know that a ten gallon is too small to be a permanent home for a Gold and Comets but they would be fine for about three years and it would give my Pleco much more room. I want to move the Gold and Comets into it but how long should I cycle a ten gallon tank before adding the fish? Since the Gold and Comet will be about three inches in three years could I add another fish and when I move the Gold and Comets to an outdoor pond let them have reign over the ten gallon. I live in Northwest Georgia and it's got in Summer and really cold in Winter. How do I keep the pond fish alive during the extremes of each, super hot and super cold? Should I put them inside in winter and in summer add blocks of ice the the water?

  • Blatant Animal abuse at the expense of style!?

When I was in the fish section the last night getting some more algae wafers I looked at aquariums and saw the most disgusting thing ever! They had a thing called the Betta Cub3. Yeah with the 3 and all. It was a .3 gallon cube that had three or four different backgrounds that weren't even fish related. It was some kinda art deco bullshiv that is supposed to look pretty. I think a colorful aquarium with healthy fish and colorful plants and an underwater background is much prettier. What made me even more sick was that it was 9 friggin dollars and a 1.5 gallon with nothing but a hood was the same price! That's not great either but definately better. How can the industry continue with this? They can't possibly think this is okay, can they? Your thoughts on this please?

  • Tank light makes stuff look yellowish?

The bulb that came with the tank set makes the stuff look yellowish orangey like. Is this how it is supposed to look? This bulb is clear while the light to my other tank is frosted and makes a clearer light. Which is the right way?

  • Filter to strong for Betta?

I think that my Betta's filter is causing too much of a current. I can't afford to buy a new one and can't return it because it came with the tank. It isn't an adjustable kind but is there a way to make the water cause less of a current. Like maybe making the drop shorter or something.

  • Question about my fish?

Okay so on advice from the owner of the fish store I bought three goldfish to put in my five gallon betta tank in order to get the bacteria thing started. I bought a heater for the tank so that when I put the betta in he will have warm water. So what I'm wanting to know is how long does it take for the bacteria to get started before I can move the goldfish out and put in the betta.

  • Are these goldfish or comets?

Okay so I got three goldfish. Two are gold on top and white on bottom and the other gold on top and yellowish on bottom. Two have a longer shaped body and a pointier tail while the other is a bit more round and a tail not so split. Is it possible for a Comet to be gold and white or are they always gold and yellow? How big might they get?
