I write... don't know what else to say :)

  • Can viruses only be transmitted through means of particular insects?

Just curious, but I was wondering whether some viruses could only survive within an insect and that species of insect only. Examples would be appreciated.

  • Are patients at hospitals under hospital jurisdiction?

    Hello all!

So I'm writing a story and the protagonist wants to check out of the hospital. My question is, can the nurse/doctor/whoever force her to stay? In the story, the protagonist gave birth--I believe you have to sign something for the hospital when being accepted as a patient.

So yes or no and why?

(I believe I posted this in the wrong topic and that this is the right one.)

    Thanks :D!

  • "Low memory" warning on my iPhone?

It's not my iPhone that's telling me I have low memory. It's an application--a game, to be more precise.

When I checked how much memory I had, it said I had 12.1 GB's available and only 1.4 used.

Is the application just judging my iPhone wrong or what? Should I be worried about my iPhone?

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Can a steam engine power a car battery?

I just wanted to know if a steam engine could in any way power a battery such as a car battery or any other type. If so, how big would it be and how could you do so? (Yes, I do know there are better ways to gain electricity than a steam engine)

    Thanks for the answers.

  • Which one is correct?

So, I was trying to figure out how to write this name. Should it be

    "Promo Draco"

    or

    "Promo-Draco"

I'm pretty sure you don't need a hyphen to joint one name that is two words, but I could be wrong. Anything would help--thanks ahead of time!

  • Is it brown-hair or brown hair?

I think it's brown-hair, but I just want to be sure.

  • What do you think of this poem?

Hi, I'm currently writing a novel, and in the novel I have one of the characters kill someone. She has nightmares and stuff about it. Another character sings this poem to her after she wakes up trembling, and I wanted to know what your opinions were on it.

    The dreams, the dreams

    Won’t go away

    The dreams, the dreams

    Haunt me today.

    Who sings, who sings

    Is preventing these dreams

    Who sings, who sings

    Is banishing these dreams.

    I saw, I saw

    His dreadful face

    Right before

    I sent him to grace.

I don't usually write poems, so thoughts, ideas, anything would be helpful. Thanks ahead of time.

BTW: I can't think of anything to put before the third paragraph, I know something should be there.

  • Is the reading view on Microsoft Word substantial to a novel's length?

I never knew Microsoft Word had a reading view until today. The bottom of the screen (where the page count is) shows I'm at 105 pages, but on the reading view it says I'm at page 174. So, are usual novels' pages based on the full reading view or the print layout?

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Is it green-eyed or green eyed?

    I think it's green-eyed (or brown-eyed, blue-eyed) but I wanted to make sure.

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Do you have to go to a new paragraph every time you write dailogue?

Okay, of course I know that you have to start a new paragraph when someone new is talking--it's one of the basic rules of grammar. What I mean is this:

I've read a couple of books where it doesn't go to a new paragraph when someone new is speaking, particularly when they're remembering or dreaming.

So, I wanted to know if you don't have to start a new paragraph every time someone new speaks, and if you can, why?

  • A question for a Clash of Kings?

In a Clash of Kings, why did Arya say her name was Nymeria instead of her name (when she freed the prisoners)? I thought the prisoners she freed were on Robb's side?

Anyway, if you can help me out without saying any big spoilers, that would be nice.

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • I need a name for my novel?

The original name of the character was Brooke, but I think I want to change it.

The character's rich and stuck up (at first) and as the story progresses, she turns nice. (This story really isn't created around her). She has black hair and was a model, if that helps.

    Thanks ahead of time

  • What would the Emergency Alert System say?

First of all, thanks for helping me with this question--that is If you're going to help me. And if you're not, well, thanks, I guess.

Okay, I'm writing a book and in the book a volcano is erupting. Now, the way I'm transporting this to the character/reader is through the Emergency Alert System. But I've tried to look up what they said and refer it to my book, but I can't find anything that helps! Sure small pieces, but it doesn't add up when you add 'em up together.

So, if you know what the Emergency Alert System would say in this situation, or any type of idea of what they would say, that would be helpful.

And sorry if I put this on the wrong category.

  • What are some things that you think shouldn't be included (when writing)?

Okay, I have a slight problem when writing; I tend to put everything I see. Which, in the right circumstances, isn't a bad thing; but sometimes I overdo it. So, I want your help.

One thing I constantly do is this:

"I get off the couch and walk to the counter."

That's what I write, and I would think it'd be annoying to the reader when I do it so much. So, should I just say that the character walked to the counter INSTEAD of getting up? I would think that'd make more since.

    But what do you think?

And is there anything else you don't include in books because the reader will already know?

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • Reasons to destroy a government?

Okay, I really didn't know how to title this so I hope the title's okay.

I'm planning out a novel and stuff and in the novel these people are (in short) trying to stop a kind of government that's starting to rise up. The government is supposed to be doing something evil, but I can't think of anything for them to do.

I don't want them to attack the U.S, I want something different.

So, that's my question and sorry if there's not much information or if it isn't clear enough.

    Thanks ahead of time.

  • How cold would it be if ash were in the air?

Hi, I'm writing a novel about Yellowstone going off, and I wanted to know how cold it would get if ash were in the air--atmosphere--like so much ash you could barely see the sun. (The people are too far off for the lava to hit them and they have masks on and stuff, so don't worry about that).

If there are other things you would like to add about Yellowstone going off or ash, feel free to include it and thank you.

  • Question about amnesia?

Hi, I'm planning out a novel and during the novel, one of the characters gets amnesia.

    So, my question is:

If someone whose had amnesia for a long period of time--1 month--and suddenly recalls there memories, will it change there personality to what it used to be, or will they still be the same person?

So, let's say, a man has amnesia and loathes his best friend. When/if he recalls his memories, will he still loathe his best friend, or treat him like he used to?

Thanks ahead of time, and yes, I know your memories don't just reappear suddenly; it's a Fiction novel....

  • when to put "said" before/after the name?

Okay, I think it doesn't matter where you put "said" (i.e, Tod said. Or said Tod) and that it's just a matter of preference. But I just wanted to make sure.

    So, would you say:

"I'll go to the park," said Tod.

    Or

"I'll go to the park," Tod said.

I think it doesn't matter, but I'm not a genius at grammar. So, thanks for the questions, because they all help.
