  • Is this simile, metaphor or both?

In Wiesel's NIGHT, he describes the SS separating them as:

"They pointed a finger as though choosing cattle or merchandise" (47).

"The they pointed as though" seems like it could be simile, but is the language really being used figuratively? So, is it simile?

Is the quote also metaphor since the Jews are implicitly being compared to merchandise and cattle?

I have the same question about the following quote:

"He paid about as much attention to us as a dealer might who was receiving a delivery of old rags" (47).

The simile is obvious as the SS guard is being compared to a dealer. But is there a metaphor embedded in the second half since the Jews its implied that the Jews are old rags?

    Appreciate your thoughts.

  • Week 15 FFB ?: PT or Wells; #80 or Driver?

Who would you start: Pierre Thomas, who is sharing carries with Bush and Bell against a stiff Dallas run D, or take a chance on Wells against the Car City Kitties?

Also, do I roll with Ocho-Cinco in SD, or Driver vs. PIT?
