  • what size cage for 5 female mice?

I have 5 female mice and I know their cage is too small, what is a good cage that is affordable for them? I know 'bigger is better' but seriously, I wouldn't necessarily go the minimum size, but a minimum would be nice to be able to judge by. I want them to be happy!

  • where to get sea monkey ACCESSORIES other than the official site?

okay, so , here's the deal, I want to get some accessories for my monkeys, namely plasma and the sea medic or whatever, and I DO NOT want to send money to the official site (literally cash) and have to wait over a month to get my stuff, the days of mail order ads like that are over!!!! Where is a place that has the ACCESSORIES for sale, even if not officially licensed? I know a lot of places have the basic packets with the eggs and food, but no where I can find has the other stuff!!!

  • What could be wrong with my fish?

My bicolor damsel is acting strangely. A couple of days ago he developed a white thing on his lip, it's very small and it looks kind of like a wound. His ammonia levels are 0 nitrites 0 and nitrates 5. Yesterday and today he's refusing to eat, breathing very quickly and hanging around the bottom of his tank. There are aiptasia in the tank, could they be stinging him? I've tried getting rid of them, but they're all living in crevices and when I get out the needle and start poking around, they all hide. I've had him about 3 weeks and the tank has been set up for 3 months. Temp is 80 and sg is 1.031ish. Other inhabitants are a kenya tree coral, 5 blue leg hermit crabs, some micro stars, isopods, hair algae, and an oyster.

  • Does this sound like Chytrid Fungus?

I had two african dwarf frogs that I got from the same place. One (the girl) died, leaving the male all alone. I bought him a friend. After about a week, the new frog was dead, upside down at the bottom of the tank, her eyes were BLOOD RED and so were her fingers and toes and some of her arms. A week after that (yesterday) the male was also found dead, his skin was pale, sloughing off in peices and he also had red eyes, hands and arms and toes.... I tried looking up chytrid fungus, but I can't tell from the pics if the frogs who die from it get the red eyes or whatever this could be.

  • Why will my russian tortoise not do anything?

My russian tortoise is about 3 years old, I got him last october. Ever since I have had him, he has been doing NOTHING but burrowing into his substrate and hiding. 24/7. Literally.... I actually have to dig him out of his burrow every couple of days to feed, water, and soak him. Otherwise, he never ever comes out for anything! He's not hibernating, because I know they don't hibernate for 9 months in a row, especially since he's had a heat lamp and UV bulb since the day I got him. His temps are 78 on the cool side, 85 on the warm side and 94ish directly under the spotlight. I feed him fresh greens, supplements, moist tortoise food, and stuff. Some days I put his tub outside so he gets natural warmth and sun, but still, he literally NEVER comes out. I had him checked out at the vet and she said he looks okay...

    This is his tank:

  • Need DESPERATE help with dog's poop eating.?

My dog is coming up on 6 months old. She's a pembroke Welsh corgi. We've tried EVERYTHING to get her to stop, msg, meat tenderizer, stop eating poo pills, vegetables. She just won't stop! Now, I know you're going to say "just clean it up" the thing is, she will HIDE and poop, and HIDE the poop in places like her crate so she can eat it later! She's OBSESSED! Literally, she will hide poop to eat it later. We take her outside to potty and she will sit there sniffing the breeze for a half hour. We think "okay, maybe she doesn't need to go" bring her inside and 10 minutes later she's chewing on a big poop! I DO NOT want to wait till she outgrows it, it's DISGUSTING, she loves to lick people on the feet, hands, mouth, and the more you reprimand her the more she does it in a placating "don't be mad at me" kind of way. It's literally to the point that if she doesn't stop, I don't want to keep her anymore. I can't handle the dog poop smeared all over my carpet, her paws and mouth, her hiding and eating poop and then licking people. The poo breath literally makes me shudder. It's ONLY her poop that she eats and we have another dog and live in a place where people routinely don't pick up after their dogs. She eats taste of the wild dog food and has GNC powdered superfood complex vitamins. She's been on this since she was 8 weeks old. She's been eating her poo since she was about 12 weeks.

  • I need advice about bullfrogs as pets.?

A month or so ago I bought two bullfrog tadpoles for like 30 cents each. One has only one eye. They haven't started to change into frogs yet, but I think I'm seeing bumps where limb buds will form soon. They're really really big, so I know they're old enough now to start the change. My concern is for the one eyed tadpole. I have asked before and found that he probably won't grow another eye. I'm starting to worry now that they are probably beginning to turn into frogs that the two eyed frog may eat the one eyed frog because he'll probably be at a slight disadvantage, since they hunt with their eyes and stuff... Should I keep them separated when they turn to frogs or will they be okay if they're the same size? I know it's a little silly to worry about a 30 cent tadpole, but I really like them and don't want to have one get eaten because of me. Also, if I do keep them together, about what size of a tank do they need, and if they're males will they fight each other?

  • how to stop a dog from eating poo?

I have a 4 month old pem welsh corgi. She eats a diet consisting of merrick before grain and nutro natural high energy. She gets missing link and solid gold supplement powders. She is fed three times a day. We take her to the dog park once a day. She goes to puppy kindergarten once a week. She EATS HER POOP. I have been giving her pineapple every day for a week and she's still eating it. This habit started about a month ago. She won't eat it outside, but if she has an accident inside she will eat about half of it, never all of it. We've NEVER punished her for pooping inside, we've done the "AH AH!" thing to try to stop her so we can take her outside, but it never works and she just runs away pooing at the same time, so if she is going or has gone, we just clean it up, there's no point in making her poop all over the house. She has been wormed 4 times. Help?

  • I need advice. Re: Vegetarian?

iI'm so saddened and confused right now. I care about animal suffering, and I care about my health, and I care about the planet... But I just cannot "care" about fish and shellfish... I just can't. I went "vegetarian" for the new years and I REALLY want to become a vegan. However, I just can't empathize with the fish, and I believe omega's found in fish are fantastic for health... I have NEVER found a vegan or vegetarian "fish". I absolutely KNOW I shouldn't be calling myself a vegetarian, but the truth is, I eat vegetarian 99% of the time and only have the occasional fish or shrimp, because my boyfriend is an omni and sometimes takes me out to places where there is no good vegetarian option (just a house salad and a bread stick.... at a mediterrainian place I had to get 3 small appetizers instead of an entree because they had ZERO vegetarian options except for some appetizers...). I don't WANT to be a hypocrite, but I just can't... do it... I enjoy fish too much and I can't adequately sympathize with them. Can someone help me, is there a vegan "fish" product out there so I can buy it to cook when my boyfriend wants to have fish, or am I doomed to be a perpetual omni?

  • What can I do to stop these feelings?

I'm 21.5 years old. I've been in a stable relationship with my boyfriend for 14 mos. We're both in college and have decided not to get married or have children until we're done with school. The last 2 months though, my maternal clock has been ticking so hard it hurts. Every time we go shopping and pass the baby aisles I get a weird feeling, when I'm around babies or young children I am really maternal. To replace the baby we have decided not to have, I keep trying to find a pet to adopt. It doesn't help. We use birth control.... What can I do to stop REALLY wanting a baby?

  • How to make tank safe for amphibians again?

My goldfish tank is being treated for Ich. I took out the two frogs and two tadpoles. The treatment will last a week. What do I have to do in order to make it safe for them again? A carbon filter? A partial water change? A Complete water change? (I really don't want to do a complete water change unless it's very necessary so I don't destroy my bacterial balance)

  • Can bullfrog tadpoles/froglets regrow a missing eye?

This morning I went to my local chain super market which sells fish. In their feeder goldfish tank they had some bullfrog tadpoles. Apparently they had accidentally been shipped because I guess the fish are raised outdoors and the tadpoles just happened to have been laid there by some wild frogs. Anyway, since they had been treated like feeder goldfish (i.e. poorly) one has a scar on his side and the other has one eye missing. I got them for 15 cents each (feeder goldfish price). I am now wondering if the eye will grow back, maybe as it turns into a frog or what? I will still keep it either way if it survives, but I would just like to know what to expect.

  • How to keep crickets from growing up?

I have a couple of small herps (a frog and a gecko) and I want to feed them crickets, but every time I buy them by the time I get around to feeding them all, they've molted and become too large for my animals. I rotate between the crickets and small mealworms and a few waxworms every now and then. I buy 50 crickets at a time (all I have available is prepackaged crickets in 50-count "lunch boxes") and feed every other day, so for instance, they get 3 to 5 crickets every 4 days... by the time I'm around to the third feeding, they're almost too large for the animals to eat. How can I stop the crickets from growing so darn fast?!

  • Mother dog cannabalizing her entire litter plus other puppies?

Alright, first off please do not rant at me, this is my PARENTS (who I do NOT live with) issue, not mine, I have NOTHING to do with this situation, I am just very curious about what happened!

My parents have two female dogs that live outdoors, one is a beagle and the other is an australian shepherd. Earlier this year, both got pregnant by two different (roaming) dogs. The beagle had 7 puppies, the aussie also had 7 but two were still born and one was breech and died a little later.

Slowly the beagle's puppies started disappearing (not dying, but completely disappearing) at first my parents thought the beagle was moving them, but they found a puppy with a smear of blood on it, but no injuries, so they thought that the puppies were getting killed by raccoons, They put the females in a large pen and closed it up, but the puppies continued to disappear until all were gone, the beagle then adopted the aussie's puppies and helped her raise them.

Well, two days ago, they gave birth again and this time the AUSSIES puppies all disappeared overnight, and my parents caught her eating some of the beagle's puppies. Now there's two left and they gave the aussie to a family friend.

Why would she just be cannabalizing all the puppies? The litter earlier this year was both of their first litters, the beagle is 4 and the aussie is 6....

AGAIN, DO NOT RANT TO ME, These are my parent's dogs and I have no control over this situation, I am only CURIOUS! I know they sometimes eat the sick one or something, but she's eating entire litters!

  • Urgent Help Needed: I think my Betta Has Columnaris?

When I bought my fish, about a week ago, he was in he pet store in a tiny cup sized bowl. I know for a fact he'd been there for about 2 weeks because I was trying to decide if I wanted to buy him for that long (he was fairly expensive, he's a platinum white delta tail plakat). When I first got him he was visably emaciated, but it's not from lack of care, because all the other fish were plump as piggies, he just refused to eat. And refused to eat at my house for 4 days. Finally he ate but yesterday I noticed his mouth was swollen and had a spot of red, like a big wound. I thought he had just tried to eat a pellet that was too big for him and hurt his mouth. Today however, the swelling is MUCH worse, his mouth is all pink and red and there's fungal threads coming from his bottom lip. He cannot eat. What do I do???? I looked for a platinum plakat betta for about 3 years and finally found him, and now he's going to die! I already put salt in the bowl, as I do for all my tropical fish, the recommended dosage of 1tsp per gallon. Please help!

  • New betta looks like it's on the way out?

I bought a betta fish day before yesterday that I had had my eye on for about 2 weeks. He is a male platinum plakat betta (not that that matters, but you can see why I really want to keep him around). When I got him, I noticed he was smaller than the other bettas, but I thought that just meant he was younger. When I got home and got him set up I was observing him and he's EXTREMELY emaciated, his black plakat buddy I bought at the same time is fat as a cow. The white guy has a big normal sized head and a pencil line body. He does nothing but sit on the bottom or float on top. He blatantly REFUSES food. I've tried pellets, two kinds of flakes, baby brine shrimp and blood worms, he pecks at each but either doesn't commit to eating and just floats away or puts it in his mouth and then spits it right back out, and the black boy gobbles everything. I wouldn't be concerned because I know bettas can be shy, but considering the extremely poor body condition he's in, I'm afraid he may be dying. Also noticed just now that he has no control of his swim bladder, he's bobbing on the top of the tank, but he's not bloated at all, like I said, he's rail thin. What could be wrong with him? I just got him so his water parameters are golden! His temp is about 78 as well.

  • What is an active, interesting beginner's snake?

I have a ball python and she's great and all, but literally i just never see her. I feed her once every two weeks and she eats and then goes into her hide hut and stays for the entire two weeks until it's food time again, then she pokes her head out and waits for the mouse (which I dangle on tongs, it's frozen/thawed) She doesn't do ANYTHING else. I keep her in my closet because it's the warmest spot in the house and her temps and humidity stay very nice, but she's just extremely boring. I want a snake I can build a beautiful terrarium for with a natural scene and stuff, but for her it just doesn't seem worth it because she would never see it. She has two hides and a water bowl and that's all.
