  • Name some light brown cakes....?

This is a weird request, I know...

I'm looking for a moist, delicious cake that I had a long time ago at a wedding that my friend's mom made and unfortunately I didn't ask what kind it was... :( It's not chocolate, and it's not spice or carrot cake. Nor were there any fruits, chunks, filling or anything distinct inside. I don't remember much else but I remember being really impressed. Not that it would help much, but it had regular white frosting and it was light brown in color, and it definitely didn't come from a boxed cake mix. Any vague ideas? :(

  • Why does wine bruise?

I understand fruit bruising, but how does a *liquid* bruise? And why doesn't grape juice bruise, then?

  • How is it that my aunt was born with one vertebrae missing then 5 yrs later, my mom was born w/ an extra one?

Can anyone explain this? I know that their mother wouldn't have the missing vertebrae hanging around in her womb for 5 years, because that's impossible, but this seems more than just a coincidence...

(In case you're curious; my aunt, 5 years older than my mom, with her one missing vertebrae, is short and always has neck & spine problems. My mom, with her extra vertebrae, is tall, and deals with scoliosis...)

  • Where in the U.S. can I find dry curd cottage cheese?

My all-time favorite recipe asks for this kind of cheese and the stores no longer carry it. (I live in Utah) I've been to many cheese delis and none of them carry it, nor will they order it for me. Is there some place I can order it online and they can ship it out to me? I'm desperate have this recipe be made again!

(Please no suggestions for substitutes like ricotta cheese or drying out regular cottage cheese. Many cheeses, including those, have been tried but unfortunately, they are not the same and cannot replace the dry curd cottage cheese that I grew up with) :(

  • I want your favorite banana bread recipes!?

I'm on a quest to find the best banana bread recipe. I've made about 6 or 7 different kinds and so far I'm not satisfied yet... Please provide your most favorite recipe. Please no links to websites with banana bread recipes, chances are I've made them already... I want ones that have been tried & true by *you*!

  • How do I cat-proof my kitchen?

Meaning, my cat constantly shoves her toys underneath the stove and dishwasher and it's a pain to try to fish them out. If I don't, obviously she won't have any toys left. Is there a blocker that I can get to put underneath my appliances to keep the toys from getting stuck under there?

  • Are you saving money when you call from a cell phone to a landline phone if they're the same phone carrier?

Like if you call from a Verizon cell phone to a Verizon landline phone, is it free or do you at least save money as opposed to an ATT&T cell calling to a Verizon landline? Or does it even matter?

  • How do I use hot rollers without the bend or kink that the securing clips leave behind?

I love hot rollers, but whether I'm using the wire pins it comes with, or securing them with specialty claw clips, after I take out the rollers, there's always a bend that the clips leave behind close to my scalp. I always have to use a curling iron to smooth those spots out, but if there's a way I could forgo that step, that would be the best! Any ideas?

  • What sound sends shivers up your spine?

Mine is when you go to erase something you've written and the eraser is gone and the metal is scratching the paper! Trying to do calligraphy is out of the question. Any kind of metal scratching paper almost puts me into a vegetative state! Aaaaaaaack!

  • Can someone please tell me why Lindsay Lohan is still being chosen to do films?

With her past (and present!) stints in rehab, continually being busted on DUI's and drug possession, and also known for being irresponsible and acting like a "spoiled child" on movie sets, why do filmmakers keep hiring her? They must have better options out there than just her...

  • If everybody looked the same, how would you make yourself stand out?

Let's say all the men look like one person, and all the women look like one person... How would you, among all the clones out there, make yourself different?

  • How do I store bran muffins?

I have these wonderful, ultra moist bran muffins, but I'm having a hard time storing them. If I leave them out, they dry out. If I put them in an air-tight ziplock bag, they get mushy and moldy fast. Isn't there a happy medium? I don't want to freeze them, since I bake so few at a time and I just grab one on the go each morning. What can I do?

  • Why does my cat like to be spanked?

One day I was just playing around with my cat and, in lack of better words, I started patting her rump like a pair of bongo drums, and she loved it. The harder I do it, the more she kneads and purrs. Obviously, I don't do it too hard because I don't want to hurt her (and I'm not advocating abuse, of course), but it's gotten to the point where she always jumps on my lap and sticks her bum out for me to do it. I had a friend who's cat liked it too. It's not really an annoyance for me but I'm just curious as to why cats like this?! Especially since the harder the spank, the better she seems to like it! :s

(And please spare me the smart-alec "s&m" responses, I've already heard them all before...)
