JEWS: Do you think the busy month of Tishrei will impact Leah's chances to win?
Voting closes November 10th, but that means that observant Jews get 15 fewer days to vote or campaign for her. (Counting shabbat and all the yom tov days.)

2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHave you voted for Leah, the Jewish girl who founded YALDAH at 13 years old, to win $100,000 from Wells Fargo ?
(See background information here:
http://blog.jugglingfrogs.com/2008/09/leah-of-yald... )
17 year old Leah Larson was recently chosen as one of FIVE finalists in Wells Fargo's "Someday Stories" contest, to expand YALDAH, the magazine she founded when she was 13, a magazine for Jewish girls by Jewish girls.
These five finalists were chosen from over 10,000 entries, and the winner of the $100,000 will be chosen based on the number of votes at the official website.
Due to sabbath observance and the Jewish holidays, observant Jews can't vote or campaign on her behalf for 15 of the contest days, or almost 33%.
This is quite a disadvantage, but she has the benefit of being the only minor (hence her mother, EVELYN in MA, had to be the official "contestant" on her behalf) and the only one of the five contestants with very clear plans and proven track record.
Yaldah magazine’s mission is to celebrate Jewish girls and women, inspire creativity, leadership, and Jewish living.
(To vote for Leah, go to http://www.wellsfargo.com/somedaystories and vote for "EVELYN from MA". To see more about the magazine, see http://www.yaldahmagazine.com/ )
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow can I find a blogger or journalist who specializes in the effects of social media?
Do you know a blogger or journalist who specializes in the effects of social media, who would be interested in a case study?
I'm working with Leah Larson, a young girl (and the only minor) who is one of FIVE finalists (chosen from over 10,000 entries) in Wells Fargo's "Someday Stories" contest.
Leah founded a magazine for girls, by girls, with international subscriber-ship when she was 13 years old. She's now 17, and has just been accepted for distribution at the (bricks and mortar) Barnes & Noble stores. Of all the contestants (who, other than Leah, are adults), Leah is the one with the business plan and the proven successful model.
The grand prize of $100,000 will be awarded based on the number of votes on the official website by November 10th.
Already, it's clear that the contestants who best utilize social media are far in the lead, and it's a neck-and-neck horse race.
This would make an excellent case study for the growing impact of social media.

Media & Journalism1 decade agoJewish scholars: Have you seen this respectful question about the wording in the Akeida?
This question was asked respectfully and directed at Jews, looking for Jewish interpretations and understandings of something that is often interpreted by Chirstians as a Christological foreshadowing.
I've set my 15 year old son off to dig around for something, but it's a busy day, and I'd really like to see a legitimate and good answer to a question that was asked so respectfully.
The asker submitted his question on Shabbat, so that's why many may not have seen it.
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow can you tell if someome has blocked you?
Is there a way to know who has blocked your Yahoo!Answers id?
I answered a question (respectfully, and politely) that is now "resolved". But when I click on the question, it says, "You cannot view this question at this time."
Does that mean that I'm blocked by the questioner?
3 AnswersYahoo Answers1 decade agoIsraeli (simcha) dance instruction videos on-line?
I'm looking for dance step instructions on-line, or availbe for purchase on DVD (if you know they're worthwhile), for the popular Israeli dance steps (simcha or party dancing, not the folk dances) especially for the newer line dances.
Any leads will be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!

Other than "Sweet Caroline" and "Dirty Water", what goes on the comprehensive list of songs associated with the Red Sox?
4 AnswersBaseball1 decade agoWhat is your advice for a mother reentering the legal field?
I have a dear friend who chose to leave the workforce ten years ago in order to stay home and raise her four children.
When she left, she was on partner-track at a leading firm, with seven years of litigation experience and an excellent and impressive record. Her degrees are from Ivy League schools.
During the past decade, she has held a number of leadership positions in the community, accomplishing a lot as a volunteer. She's very personable, likable, and people-smart.
Now that her children are all in elementary school, she would like to return to the practice of law.
However, she has encountered a surprising lack of interest. Potential employers and recruiters told her explicitly that it is very difficult to reenter the field, and they "just don't handle that" situation.
I know her well, and can't imagine a firm that wouldn't be better off with her than without her.
Have you had a similar experience? How were you successful reentering law?
Thank you!
5 AnswersLaw & Legal1 decade agoWhat is the most correct way to say in Hebrew "honored grandparents" on a formal invitation?
Such as on a bar/bat mitzvah invitation, on the side, where the names of grandparents are customarily listed. I've seen many examples, but would like the most correct/formal/accepted tense.
Thank you in advance!
4 AnswersIsrael1 decade agoWhy has my color laser printer started making a horizontal bars of heavier toner concentration across the page
It's a HP 1500L, and I've had it for years.
Both the printer drum and toner cartridges were replaced a (low volume) month ago, and should not be even close to empty.
I've taken out all he toner cartridges and shook them a bit, to redistribute the toner, but this didn't make any difference.
3 AnswersPrinters1 decade agoSearching for famous or wonderful visual art featuring a tree with foliage, visible roots, and water nearby?
I'm seeking as many/multiple references as possible. I'm looking for moving images of strength and beauty and fruitfulness.
Thanks in advance for your help!

With citations, if possible.

3 AnswersQuotations1 decade agoLooking for interpretations of Judaism's tree imagery (in the Tanach, Talmud, Midrash, etc.)?
As the structure a speech, I'm analyzing poetic writings that use tree imagery that is used as a metaphor for knowledge, learning, wisdom, good deeds, and growth.
I'd like to incorporate many interpretations in the analysis.
So far, I'm focusing on (and would most like to find commentaries about):
Yirmiyahu/Jeremiah 17:8 as described in Masechet Avot 3:17;
Tehilim/Psalms 1:3 and 92:12;
Iyov/Job 8:16
Yechezkiel/Ezekiel 31:4-10 and 47:12
Misheli/Proverbs 3:18
But I'd love to have lots more to work with. I'm also interested in Jewish poetry, songs, or visual art (can be contemporary or traditional) inspired by these (or other) verses.
Thanks in advance for any resources you can share.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhere can I find the best (most beautiful, helpful, or interesting) interpretations of Tree Drawings?
As the structure a talk I've been asked to give, I'm analyzing poetic tree imagery that is used as a metaphor for knowledge, learning, and growth.
I'd like to incorporate respected and legitimate contemporary psychological interpretations in the analysis.
I know there is a standard psychological assessment that interprets drawings of trees as reflections of personality. I'd like to find interesting, canonical, well-accepted, and/or beautiful interpretations of the meanings of roots, trunks, fruit, foliage, etc. as well as interpretations of the settings/background of tree drawings.
(I'm happy to receive references to on-line or off-line resources.)
Thank you!
2 AnswersPsychology1 decade agoWhat are the most popular contemporary Israeli simcha dance music titles/artists?
I'm particularly interested in newer music with male-only vocals.
I'm looking for something OTHER than klezmer, folk or hora style. Something that Israeli teenage girls know and like and would know how to dance to it.
Please assume I know nothing, and tell me titles and names of the artists. I'm happy to get answers in either Hebrew or English.
Thank you!
2 AnswersIsrael1 decade agoHow would you best go about using a mix-CD instead of a DJ for a bat mitzvah party?
All recommendations and advice welcome and appreciated.
(We're expecting about 150 people in a large social hall in the Northeast U.S., and would like to have dancing, without the expense of a DJ.)
Thank you in advance.
4 AnswersWeddings1 decade agoCan you recommend sound equipment to use a mix-CD instead of a DJ at a large party?
We can't afford a DJ for an upcoming large celebration (150 people), but I'd like to get as close as possible to the experience. I'm working on collecting the music for a mix-CD (or three).
What type of sound equipment/amplifiers could I get that would hook up to an iPod, computer, or CD player, that would give a large (auditorium-sized) roomful of sound?
What would you expect to be the cost of a decent set up? A fantastic setup? A mediocre setup?
Do I *need* a microphone to emcee? If so, please recommend brands.
Any experience or advice anyone can share about doing this would be most appreciated!
Thank you!
