  • If my boiler is used ONLY for heat and NOT hot water, does it need a minimum temp?

I have a boiler used only for heating my house through baseboards. My hot water tank is a separate unit. For some reason the minimum temperature on the aquastat was set to ~160 even thought the boiler hets up to ~180-200 within 20-40 minutes from being OFF (depending on the outside temp). I feel almost as if the minimum can be turned off or at least down since we don't need the water to be immediately hot.

I don't mind waiting a bit longer for the house to heat up if it will save me money! I'll just set my thermostat schedule to start 30-60 minutes sooner!

Let me know if I'm missing something here.

  • Boiler for heating out of control, need advice.?

    Hello!

I have a separate hot water heater and a separate oil furnace for heating my home. The oil furnace is in question.

So, over the summer when it is not cold, I turn my boiler completely off. My oil tank shows that we use about a quarter tank during the summer, thanks to dishwashing and long showers etc etc.

Now, here is the problem. If I turn my boiler on and leave my thermostat at 50 degrees (aka not using the heat) I would go through a tank of oil fairly quickly. I understand my boiler needs to run to stay hot and be ready for me to turn the heat on, but why is it wasting so much oil just being on and not running the heat?

I was thinking of getting an outdoor temp sensor for it so it can adjust the temperature on the fly but I'm wondering if there are other settings I need to mess with. I can't afford to turn the thing on nevermind run the heat and the winter is almost here!

  • Dog afraid of thunder is disrupting my whole life?

My dog is afraid of thunder. So afraid that nothing will help her. She doesn't sleep with us, so on nights she was afraid I would try to let her in my room and she would be wanting to go in and out of the room, panting, heart racing. Nowhere is safe in her eyes.

I've also tried the ignore method, ignore her whining for hours, to which she will go back downstairs and run around the house whining for 5 minutes to find herself back at the door. There is no training fear.

She wakes me up in the middle of the night and it is so annoying, then she can't be consoled, she can't be ignored, she won't relax. There is nothing I can do but be awake while she takes over my night.

She needs drugs bad. I hate resorting to something like that but I have no more patience for this. Any hints or tips from the community before I start stuffing her full of drugs?

  • Major heartburn, doctor says to use tums?

Hi all, I'll try to keep this short.

My doctor is a jerk sometimes, other times he is very helpful. He seems to think I'm depressed, which has crossed my mind many times before anyway, so he put me on celexa. I figured I would give it a shot. The only other medication I am on is prilosec OTC.

I started the celexa and felt like crap, found out that celexa and prilosec may have interactions and so I called the doctor. He recommended I go off of the prilosec (that I have been on for 8 YEARS). When I questioned what to do about the heartburn he agitatedly said "I recommend Tums." Jerk.

So here I am, feeling much better with the celexa side of things but eating tums like candy. It doesn't matter what I eat my stomach and esophagus burn like hell all day. Apple cider vinegar seems to be helping but not enough. D-Limonene made the reflux 3x worse. Diet changes do nothing. I sip on water all day to clear out the acid.

    Your thoughts/suggestions?

  • Liquid B12 improved my energy level significantly?

Background story: I have been tired for 6 years and nothing works to give me energy, ultimately I mask my extreme fatigue with caffeine. Yes, I also tried going off of the caffeine for a month and no my energy levels were not any better.

So, B12. Should I be worried that I am deficient or was that just a superficial energy boost anyone could expect? I took 3mg and I feel like I even had better sleep later that night as well if that even correlates which I wouldn't think so.

Also, if this is a problem am I just going to be stuck on buying B12 supplements for the rest of my life? I had battery after battery of blood tests from my doctor but he never checked vitamin levels. He said if anything was up those tests he did would have found something. So I get a clean bill of health but I'm still very tired. Have not been to a sleep clinic yet.

Here are my next options for figuring out what is wrong with me (in no particular order):

    See a nutritionist

    See a psychologist

    Go to a sleep clinic

What do you suggest? Please ask me questions if you have any and I will respond in additional details. Just don't forget about me :P I'm tired of being tired!!!!!!!!

  • Simple, healhy recipes to cook at home.?

Okay, so I make a turkey stir fry that is great. Salt free seasonings, lots of minimally heated frozen veggies a pound of lean ground turkey and brown rice. Deicious, healthy, super simple to make. It is, however, one of the very few things I found to make with the three requirements.

    1) SIMPLE - aka have all the ingredients, all ingredients can be stored for a time, virtually no prep and quick cook time.

    2) HEALTHY - It's healthy

    3) DELICIOUS - Doesn't taste like a foot

So are there any recipes you could share that are all of these things? Filling the requirements of delicious and healthy are hard enough but then making it happen with a time restriction as well seems near impossible. Please share your ideas I need to start cooking more!

  • PC gaming, big monitor=big gpu so smaller monitor=smaller gpu?

I am an enthusiast. If I can't max out my settings, something doesn't feel quite right. Recently I was thinking about upgrading my card and monitor. The monitor I had my eye on was a 1080p 21.5" as opposed to my current 19" 1440x900.

My fear is that to upgrade the card in order to max out the settings I will be out of luck. When I upgrade the monitor I will need a much higher resolution to run the native resolution for it to look right forcing me to bump all those in game settings back down again. Should I just get another lower res monitor or stick with the one I have and upgrade the card? I was looking to the HS6970 and would buy when the 7000s come out for hope of a price drop. I'm torn! Especially since the price of GPUs are WAY out of control these days. Remember when $4-500 got you the best? Those were the days.

    Current system:

    Core i5 2500K @ 4Ghz

    8GB DDR3 1600 cas 7

    HD 4990 gpu

    Thanks

  • Health insurance and pre-existing conditions.?

    Hello, question.

If I have health insurance now, find out I have a condition, then get a different job and change health insurance, am I in the "pre-existing condition" status with the new insurance? I'm curious because as of now the only reason I keep my health insurance is "just in case" as with any insurance and I don't want to have to pick up insurance after finding out something is wrong, as I understand it doesn't work that way, that's the catch.

However, what if I find a condition while I have insurance, go off of it between jobs and get insurance back? Does that mess with things? Is there a way around it?

    Thanks

  • I think better if I am sick or drinking?

I'm the type of person who is the "absent minded professor" type. I am constantly thinking about life the universe and everything but then trip over my shoelaces and get to work realizing I forgot my wallet.

I noticed that if I am slightly inebriated or coming down with a sickness that my overall productivily goes up! My boss even mentioned it when I was sick, "wow, I think you perform better at work when you are sick"

What is up with that? Maybe I need to be an alcoholic. LOL

  • GP that uses goole maps or auto updates that is not a phone?

Looking for a GPS that doesn't need to have the map updated every other month for a cost. My phone does a great job of being a GPS bt the wife needs a GPS and will not be getting a smartphone any time soon.

Are there any nice GPSs out there that use google maps or update themselves?

  • Should I get rid of my health insurance?

I haven't been to the doctors in 5 years. I'm thinking of going to the doctors, getting the check ups, getting checked for things that run in the family or concern me and then getting rid of the insurance. I get it through my company and supposedly it is a great plan. I asked around apparently this plan is way up there on the chart. However, I don't use it nearly enough and could be saving myself roughly $300 a month. I must have payed about $3000 into insurance now and not used it once. I could pocket $300/month and spend $600 every year if I wanted to, but even that sounds like more money than I would spend. When I get sick I eat soup and take a day out of work, I always get better I don't need pills.

I'm healthy and young so maybe 5 years from now if I blow a gasket or plan on having a kid or 2 I'll pick the insurance back up but it just doesn't seem worth it right now. I'm paying for nothing. And even when I do see the doctor the price is comparable to when I don't have insurance because they usually cut me a break. sounds like a huge scam up there with "having credit" AKA in debt for the rest of your life.

The world truly is an evil place. This is what I plan to do. Anyone have experience that can convince me otherwise? To think what I could do with an additional $3600 per year.

  • Can't focus, life is like a blur?

Lately for some reason I can't really focus too well. My job certainly doesn't help as it is hectic and random at all times. But then I go home and it seems hard to concentrate on anything. It's better when there is less going on but if there are a lot of things going on I might as well be spinning around in circles.

I should probably just go to the doctor really, it seems to correlate with eating/not eating, perhaps. Could be a sugar thing, could be coincidence. I gave up caffeine for the most part, probably have a couple of small cups of coffee each week and no soda or anything.

When I was young I had been diagnosed with ADD and tried all of the medicines under the sun to no avail. I still have all of the symptoms though but have dealt with it pretty well so far. Made my own system that seems to work better than the medicine anyway.

I'm not sure what I'm looking for as an answer, maybe just to see if anyone else has ever felt similar. I feel like there is carnival music playing and person after person calling me and needing my help for something as I just spin around in circles and watch the week go by in a blur. I'm tired for no reason. More sleep, less sleep, alcohol induced sleep. Doesn't matter what I do. I exercise, eat pretty healthy, healthy weight etc etc. There's no obvious reason for me to feel the way I do.

  • Computer power supply still OK?

I bought a PC Power and Cooling power supply about 3 years ago planning to use it in my next rig. Well, it's about that time and I'm sort of out of the loop. Is this still adequate for any type of crazy graphics card a few modules of memory and a couple of 1TB drives?

    80+ certified efficiency

    750 watts

    +3.3 24A

    +5 30A

    +12 60A

It still seems pretty bullet proof but I just want to make sure, I never run SLI or Xfire. Just single cards, but usually one of the beastliest single cards.

    Thanks

  • Trying to learn everything there is to know about IT?

Stupid idea, I know, but I'm fascinated by EVERYTHING IT related. I have a BA in Network Engineering and the CCNA cert and half of the A+ (easy as pie). I know servers and desktop/hardware support but I also know Cisco gear and networking. I'm finishing up the A+, then going to go for server + to then go for the CCNA security. I'd also like to know Linux and Programming.

I'm bouncing back and forth between so much technology and there is a never ending supply of information to gobble up but it has me thinking. If I want to be extremely proficient at anything I am going to have to trim down what I work with and stick with something.

I've been in the field 5.5 years and know a ton, I'm only 24. Should I continue on my path of consuming as much knowledge about everything as possible or should I buckle down and chose one path? I'd like to be that guy that can program a game, program the servers to run it, create the network that routes it and then play the game and be awesome at it, lol. A bit ambitious? Hell yea. Possible? Probably not, but I keep trying.

What do you think? If I aspire to be all of these things I would think that over time I can be all of these things.

  • Had a dream of the perfect woman, but I'm married.?

I had a dream that I met the "one" in my dreams. In my dream, I also knew that I was married, happily married and laughing every day :)

Long story short, I told the woman in my dream that I loved them both, meaning her and my wife. I was at a junction but ultimately I wanted to end up with my wife. But now I'm awake and still thinking about this imaginary woman. What the heck is this all about?
