In the 7th inning of a professional baseball game they groom the infield dirt and replace the bases. Is replacing the bags a requirement of a regulation or rule, or is it just tradition like the 7th inning stretch?

It's possible it's an organ. I don't think the synthesizer was invented until the mid to late 60s so that lets it out. But it really sounds like a calliope. Could it be?

Sometimes the arrow is even red, the color identified with conservatives. So why wouldn't the arrow be blue and point the way to the liberal left? Just something to think about. So if anyone has any ideas let's have them.

One of the news photos shows an earlier picture of him wearing a Pittsburgh Pirates cap. Now I have heard there are other meanings to the 'P' symbol on the cap. I am curious. Anyone have any ideas?

They say it's magnetic field ceased to function and that allowed the Sun to strip off it's air and water. How could this happen? Could it happen here?

Is the reason it's so much harder to win the TC since the 70's really because they have kept increasing the field in the Derby until the gate stretches across the whole track? With all those horses the chances for bad racing luck has got to be increased to the point where a potential TC winner can't get to the front to win the Derby. If you can't win the Derby you can't win the TC. So have there been horses since Affirmed who ran in all three races, lost the Derby and won the other two. And how did he do in the Derby. Anybody want to do the research?

In 1948, Citation's TC, there were 6 entries in the Derby, in '73 Secretariat's TC there were 13. 1977, Seattle Slew's TC saw a field of 15; Affirmed faced 10, but by 2000 there were 19 and have been 19 or 20 in almost every year since.

It just seems that with that many horses the chances of the really best horse winning are substantially reduced simply by the amount of traffic alone.

Okay Oscar, I'm going to toss this out there. I received an 'answer notification e-mail' to a recent question. Part of the e-mail says 'Now that you have an answer, what's next'. There are three options. The third option says 'Can't decide which is best? Send it to vote and let the community choose!'

Now if there's no more voting just how do you go about doing that? Has anyone recently done that. It would be nice if someone from Yahoo could give an answer for all of us.

At the breakup of the USSR the Ukraine separated with it's own constitution; so did Crimea. Crimea's constitution stated that it was also an independent nation. Shortly after the same Crimean legislature that wrote it changed the wording to say it in fact was part of the Ukraine. There was also a referendum to be held I think in September of 1992. Does anyone know if it was ever held and if so what were the results? This was the time to reverse the Khrushchev give away of 1954.

Almost everyone by now has heard that a fluctuation in the polar vortex is responsible for the unusually low temperatures in the US today. In years past the weather people would use the term Siberian Express to describe the approach of a really cold air mass. I thought these were high pressure systems broken off from the polar high pushing into the mid-lattitudes. Is there a polar high and a polar vortex existing at the same time? Do pieces of both break off and drift south causing these extremely cold outbreaks and are they both called the Siberian Express?

Okay, I know World Series home field advantage goes to the team whose team won the All-star game, but how about the Pennant series and Division series? Why do the A's, Yankees, Reds and Nats have to start on the road when they all have better records. Before we had two wild card teams the team with the better record got the home field advantage. Did they do a coin toss or draw for high card or something?

I mean there's a big station, Hickory Point, 18 pumps and they sell 87 octane ethanol-free gas on pumps 17 & 18. How are they and a few other stations able to do that with the Federal mandate. Well I buy it for my '90 Daytona and lawn mowers. I wonder why they do it and why other stations don't. Now the price is only about 20 to 23 cents more so it's a really good deal. Any ideas?

I asked a question this morning about an iron lung. In less than 10 minutes I had probably a pretty good answer. When I returned a few hours later the answer was gone. What gives? I still have the e-mail notification that I had an answer.

What do you guys think life was like back in the 20s? There was no Medicare, Medicaid or health care of any kind, there was no unemployment compensation, there was no 'welfare', no Social Security. What was it like to work till you died? Six day work weeks, 10 hour days if you were lucky. One car if you were lucky. Your health care plan was 'don't get sick. What was life like with no sound movies, no tv, no computers, no cell phones. What was it like?

How do you open the hood of a car ('83 Cavalier) when the release cable is not working? The pull handle inside the car moves but the latch doesn't release. There must be a backup way to release the hood.

It has come to my attention that we did not always wish friends a merry Christmas. 100 years ago it was almost exclusively 'happy Christmas'. The original ending of The Night Before Christmas is "Happy Christmas to all and to all a good night". Check it out. I was looking at some old Courier & Ives greeting cards; most of them said 'happy ' not 'merry'. I was watching a 1953 episode of Racket Squad. At the end when the fake Santa got busted he was telling some kids the night before Christmas and it was 'happy Christmas to all'. When and why the switch?

I notice that the relief pitchers warm up on the sidelines in San Francisco like in the old Candlestick Park. Most ball parks for as long as I can remember, even minor league, have had enclosed bullpens. I was wondering when they started enclosing them?
