I am building an aquarium in a greenhouse. It will be huge! Possible choices are a stingray, arowana, knifefish, redtail cat, bala sharks, banded leporinus, bichirs, false tigrinus cat. Obviously I won't buy all of those. I am buying the stingray for sure, which ones are compatible with a stingray in say a 500 gallon aquarium?

I caught a 4 inch brown bullhead in a creek behind my house, he/she is in a 10 gallon. Don't worry he'll be in a 55 gallon soon, then in an outdoor pond.

there would be several species of gar in there. The largest might be alligator gar, the smallest being florida or tropical or shortnose gar. I live where the water would not be too hot in the summer nor would it be too cold in the winter. how many gallons would it need to be. i am guessing at least 500.

This is of course ignoring the fact that the gambusia is aggresive and may terrorize those fish. But could a small less aggresive gamusia breed with a largr guppy. They're all in the pocilidae family. I have had platies and swordtails breed, as well as guppies with endlers. I had heard that wild guppies were bred with gambusia minnows to make them larger, when the guppy was first introduced to breeders.

i have a dragonscale from petsmart, it looks like a peaceful betta. I have another from a local pet store, it is light blue, and very metallic shiny scales

First of all, i am building the aquarium. Is 225 gallons enough. I was thinking of having two 70 gallon marineland biowheel filters plus an overflow box of 5 gallons which drains into a canister filter or 55 gallon sump (plastic bin from walmart). It would have a home-made wet/dry filter in it. There would be a 600 gallon per hour pump, pumping water back into the aquarium to make it overflow into the overflow box.

This would be a male and female pair. That would be a 360 gallon aquarium. There would be a pair or 55 gallon sump tanks below. i haven't worked out the sump situation yet. There will be 100 gallons of sump down there though. All sumps would be customized to be filters. There would be two marineland 90 gallon external hang on filters to keep the water flowing and some extra smaller filters that are not used.

I am in the process of building a 112.5 gallon aquarium (48*30*18). I am only putting one reticulated stingray in there. They grow to 12 inches in diameter. I am NOT new to fish, but i am new to rays. I was told i needed a larger tank, or a sump tank. I am wondering what size of a sump tank would be necessary. Since stingrays are messy eaters, the tank will get more dirty, so a sump tank is?needed to dilute the mess. Can anyone tell me what size sump tank i need, and how to set it up?

I am only thinking of buying one ray, and i can build the aquarium. I don't have room for an aquarium bigger bigger than 112.5 gallons. It may have less volume than the standard 125 gallon(72*18*21), but it has more base area, meaning, it takes more sand to cover the bottom. Don't worry about the health of the ray, i have done a lot of research, and I am 15 and have had fish for 11 years. So i am wondering if a 48*30 is enough room for him?

i have a lot of experience raising and breeding fish. I have bred many livebearers, cichlids, and other freshwater fish. I'm 15, but i have raised fish for 11 years. I am looking for i fish that is an accomplishment to raise. I saw that a pet store had freshwater stingrays, but they were out of stock. I though, that that would be a cool fish to have and show to friends because even non-fish-keepers know what they are. I'm not looking to breed them, maybe a few years down the road though. I am doing some research on freshwater stingrays, asking questions etc.

So i am wondering what ray is good for beginners, and what size tank is needed? I probably will only buy one or two of these rays. I have heard motoro is a good one but they get 3 ft in diameter. I only have limited space in my room, so i dont think a motoro would do well in a tank that I could fit in my room. I have about 4*4 feet of space. I know reticulated rays are small, but not good pets. I'm looking for a ray that can fit a 4 by 4 aquarium. I need to know what height to make it. i was thinking 12 to 18 inches. I may have to make the aquarium 4 by 2.

So what height should the tank be?
