  • Unexpected Cat Spat?

I have two cats, Freya and Stella - both spayed females. I've had them for 4 years, and the older (Freya by half a year) has generally been "the boss". Their play could cross the line sometimes, but at worst they were ambivalent towards one another. However, I came home yesterday to find Freya hiding under the couch, and Stella growling and hissing at her. Anytime Freya comes out, Stella attacks, aggressively, until Freya hides or I break it up.

For the moment, I have them shut into different parts of the apartment (they can interact at one door, but I doubt Freya will go near it).

I am hoping that Stella will get over whatever it is that has driven her to this. Does anyone have ideas for how to help them at least get back to civil interactions?

  • NHL current man-games lost.?

Anyone know a site which tracks current man-games lost to injury for NHL teams?

(Please don't give me the "That's just an excuse" "Good teams play though injury loss" lines - I just want to get a feel for which teams are coping well and which might not be)

  • Is this a fair assesment of debate?

In order for a debate to really be valid, shouldn't both parties enter the debate with the understanding that the other side could make them change their minds with a sufficiently persuasive argument?

If so, a lot of what goes on these days seems like it really shouldn't be called "debate" - more "two people talking past each other."

Or am I not giving people enough credit?

  • Changing student attitudes towards agression?

Recent events have shown my wife that most of the students in one of her 7th grade classes feel that beating a person up for sitting in your seat is an appropriate (and commendable - they were applauding the attacker when he came back from suspension) way to behave.

Has anyone had any success in changing this kind of attitude, and if so - how?

  • Cat pill administration advice?

My cat has kitty asthma. As a result, she has to take some pills. These are white, powdery pills which I suspect taste like aspirin (based upon her reaction to them). I've gone though 6 months of battling with her to get her to take them.

I started out with "Pill Pocket" treats. These are soft hollow treats. They worked for a while, but eventually she figured out that with effort she could eat the treat and spit out the pill. For a while I added grass gel anti-hairball stuff to it - something she loves the taste of - but eventually she got around that too. I've ground the pills up and mixed them with either treat, and she refuses to eat it. I put tiny bits of the pill on regular food, and she avoids that too. Right now I break the pills into small enough pieces that when coated with treat, she can swallow it whole and not taste the pill. She's beginning to resist though.

She does not eat human food, so tuna won't work, and she knows to wait until I stop holding her to spit

  • Hypothetical alien close encounter?

    Consider the following situation:

What if, tomorrow, an alien space-craft were to come close enough to Earth to be visible through moderately powerful telescopes. Tracking it would show that it is not headed in this direction, and it is far enough away that any signal sent would take years to reach it.

What do you think would be the reaction in different parts of the world? Would people believe images, or think that they are hoaxes? Would there be panic even though it is not headed this way?

  • Y!360 Picture?

I've created a 360 account, uploaded a picture, and set Answers to use the 360 picture - but I just have the blank image. Is there some sort of delay for the picture to work its way through the system and show up here?

  • Meaning of vector opertation ^ (carrot)?

I am looking at an old research paper that uses A^B, where A and B are vectors and the ^ is actually on the same level rather than raised. Based on the physics, I believe they are using a cross-product, but even in 1972 I would think 'x' was used. Has anyone seen ^ used as a vector operation?
