  • How much should I charge a coworker who wants me to be her wedding coordinator?

I LOVE wedding planning, and have assisted multiple friends in this way. Upon hearing this, a coworker who I like, but I'm not close to asked me to be her wedding planner, and said that she would pay me. I've always done it for free because I enjoy it, but if she is willing to pay, I'm willing to accept it. I'm not a professional planner, and I'm pretty sure I make at least triple her salary at our job, so I don't want to charge her a ridiculous amount. What is a fair price that doesn't sell myself short, but doesn't over burden her financially?

  • How do I stop my neighbor's ivy from invading my garden?

I live in a duplex, and the neighbor whose house is attached to mine LOVES ivy. I HATE it. My husband and her boyfriend took down the old fence between our yards and all of the ivy that had over grown it, so my husband could build a new fence last summer. The ivy is coming back, and I'm trying to keep it away from the plants in my garden. She wants to let grow on her side. Is there a way to kill it off on my side of the fence without it killing it completely so that she can have it?

What I've been doing so far is pushing it back through the pickets when I see it coming over but as I was watering my herbs, strawberries, and blueberries this morning, I saw some ivy growing up through the ground rather then just leaning in through the fence.

  • I forgot to add baking soda?

A friend gave me her recipe for banana bread. I decided to make muffins instead of bread. I put them in the oven about 10 minutes ago and I just realized that I forgot the baking soda. Oops. Do I need to just throw out the whole batch and start again, or will they be ok, just a little flat.

  • What are you getting your husband for Christmas?

My husband is hard to shop for because as soon as he sees something he wants, he buys it for himself leaving me nothing to get him for Christmas or his birthday. I'm soliciting ideas for fun gifts under $50.00. Thanks

  • I have a theoretical question for Christians?

Being a Christian myself, I had an odd question pop into my head the other day and I've been asking several of my friends at church for their opinions. I thought I'd open it up for a wider audience.

Jesus had to die for us because we are all sinners and unable to live a sin free life. If someone were to never sin (I know it is impossible, but just hypothetically speaking) but never became a Christian, could they go to heaven?

The most common answer I've gotten from my friends has been, no because we are born with a sinful nature, and even if we could fight that nature and never actually sin, the mere fact that we have to struggle against that nature makes us sinners. We are born sinners, we don't become sinners when we commit the first sin.

    What is your opinion?

  • How can I use my stevia plant?

I've tried buying powdered stevia as a sugar substitute, but hated the bitter after taste. At the farmer's market last weekend, I found stevia plants for sale, and bought two. Thus far all I've done with it is pull off a leaf and chew on it everytime I walk past because it gives a delicious burst of sweetness in my mouth. I would like to find a recipe in which to use it before I've eaten all of the leaves off of it.

  • How important is vanilla extract?

A coworker just gave me her recipe for peanut butter cookies. It calls for 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract. I thought I had some in the house, since I don't bake often and it tends to last me forever when I get it. I must have used the last of it the last time I did bake something. I had my children all excited about making cookies, and discovered that I'm out, and I don't have time to run back to the store to get any. Is it really necessary, or can I substitute something else, like the lemon extract or the almond extract I found when looking for the vanilla extract?

  • When using a double boiler, should the water from the bottom pan touch the top pan?

I always thought the the top pan was supposed to sit in the boiling water, but a friend of mine said that it should sit above it and that the steam, not the water is what should heat the top pan.

  • My recipe for butternut squash...?

calls for 3 1/2 pounds butternut squash, peeled, seeded, and cut into 1-inch pieces. I bought a 4 pound butternut squash, but by the time I peeled & seeded it, the 1-inch pieces weighed 2 lbs 5 oz. Did the recipe take into account that the weight would drop significantly once I cut it up, or did it mean that I need to buy a 4 1/2 pound squash so that I would have 3 1/2 pounds left once I discarded the peel & seeds? (Meaning that I now need to go out and buy some more squash for my recipe.)

  • Should I have handled this differently, and what should I do now?

I'm one of the behavior specialists at an alternative school for students who have been put out of their regular schools for behavior reasons. One of our teachers sent a student out of class for something. She didn't send one of the forms that should accompany students being sent to my office to let us know why he was being sent from class. I spoke to the student, and he told me what he had done. We discussed his behavior, and what he needs to do to avoid having the same problem in this class again. I then walked him back to class for a brief return conference with the teacher.

When we got to the classroom door, I knocked, and when she opened the door, he just walked in. She wagged her finger and said, "Oh No!" I waved for him to come back out, because I assumed she wanted the return conference (our usual procedure) before he went in. As soon as he was out the door, she closed it in my face, threw up her hands, shook her head and walked away from the door. I've never had an adult close a door in my face before.

A 1/2 hour later, she brought the paperwork to one of my behavior team collegues instead of me, and all the paper said was that the student requested to leave class, not that she put him out or didn't want him back. When I went to the administrator about this, he had a conversation with her. She came back to me, and said she the administrator had told her why I was upset, "you thought I closed the door on you. The student closed that door". When I reminded her that I actuallly SAW her close it, and that the student was actually standing behind me when the door closed, she still continued to deny it. Now she is just upset that I wont believe her revisionist history of events. At that point I simply told her that I know what I saw, and that I have nothing else to say to her. She continued to try to convince me that she would never do such a thing, and I could barely contain myself from hitting her before she finally left.

If she is going to continue to lie about even having done it, is there anything else I can or should have done or said?

Last year they told us was the last year they were willing to fund it. I would like to send a letter to some of the local businesses that my school uses requesting financial support. What should the letter say?

  • Do I owe an extra $50 because of a misunderstanding?

I've been going to my current hair dresser every two weeks for about 2 years now. Today I decided to get highlights. I've had them plenty of times before, but this is the first time since I started going to this woman that I've had them done. At every other salon I've gone to in the past, the price quoted for getting high lights included everything - highlights, shampoo, blow-dry, and curl. Normally when I go to her every two weeks, I just get a shampoo, blow-dry, and curl and that cost $50.00. Today, I got highlights which she told me would be $125.00. I assumed that $125.00 would cover everything, and only brought that and money for a tip. When my hair was done, and I went to the register to pay, the cashier asked me for $175.00. I assumed there was some mistake, and went back to my stylist to clear things up. That is when it was explained to me, that that was $125.00 for the highlights, and $50.00 for the blow-dry and curl. When I explained to her that not only had I not understood that when she quoted me the price of $125, but that I didn't have an extra $50.00 to pay the shop, she graciously let it go.

Here is my question. Part of me feels that she should have quoted me a price of $175.00 if that is what it would cost for the complete hair do (no one walks out of the shop with her hair dripping wet to go home and blow-dry and curl it herself). Part of me feels that since she seemed genuinely surprised that I didn't know that I was being charged for both services, but was gracious enough to le me go with just the $125.00 that I should give her an extra $50.00 the next time I go to her in two weeks for my usual shampoo, blow-dry and curl. What do you all think, and why.

  • My 4 year old is complaining that his penis hurts?

The first time he made that complaint, my husband & I checked and he was wearing new underpants and there was a sticker that I forgot to remove from the inside that was irritating him. That was about two weeks ago, then last week he told my husband again that his penis hurts as they were leaving to go to daycare. My husband looked and didn't see anything wrong, so we called his pediatrician to have him checked out. She looked at it, and took a urine sample to see if he had a UTI, and could find nothing wrong. He told my husband that again yesterday morning as they were getting ready to leave.

Part of me is thinking that my son is just trying to get to spend the morning with Daddy again like he did when he had the doctor's appointment, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else had an oppinion about why his penis might be hurting other than an UTI which was ruled out or a rash since there isn't one.

  • How do you count how many words your toddler can say?

I just took a poll that asked how many words my 16 month old could say clearly. It is the clearly part that I wasn't sure about. There are quite a few words that my son says well enough that my husband, our 3 year old and I know exactly what he is saying, but quite a bit less that a total stranger could hear him say and understand.

  • Math Puzzle of the Month Help Please?

The front wheels of a farm tractor have a diameter of 2 feet; the back wheels have a diameter of 3 feet. If the tractor travels 1 mile, how many more complete rotations will a front wheel make than a back wheel.

Here is the tricky part. I need step by step instructions on how to solve it, not just the answer.

  • What is the difference between a 4 & a 4T?

My son is 3 1/2 and extremely skinny. I've just excepted that he is really too tall to still where his 3T pants, but he is so skinny that he can still fit into 2T pants and still need the adjustable waste to be made smaller. I was looking at the Children's Place website, and noticed that in the 4's they have a slim fit, but in the 4T's they have the adjustable waste. I'm wondering which will fit my son better so that he gets the length he now needs, but wont have to be sinched in so far at the waist that they look odd.
