  • How to find the exact model of my GPU?

I'm stuck trying to figure out what my GPU is.. see I'm not sure if it's an HIS Radeon HD7850 or a 7870, but I need to buy the exact same one in order to utilise the full potential of crossfire, or at-least that's my understanding.

Unfortunately, I've lost the box & the receipt, the manual doesn't specify, nor do the disks or warranty.

The device manager just says Radeon HD 7800 Series, as does CPUID and it's HWMonitor, and dxdiag.

I've taken it out to look at it, but it doesn't say on it..

It does look identical to this: http://www.hisdigital.com/UserFiles/product/0144_0...

However, searching for both the HIS Radeon HD7850 and the 7870 both return images of cards with that casing, though more so the 7850.

One number is written just above the pins, 'C40301', and searcghing for this with 'radeon' in the search returns one or two results mentioning the 7850, but also other GPUs too.

So at this point it's looking more like the 7850, except that I'm pretty sure it was just over $300 a year ago when I got it, and according to cpubenchmark.net, the 7850 was $250 then, and the 7870 was $330, data that makes the 7870 more likely..

So with the evidence available conflicting, all software refusing to tell me, and a lack of labels anywhere, I seem to have ran out of options for figuring it out. Does anyone have any ideas?

It's important I get the same card for the extra power that comes with 2 GPUs, I need this to help my business as a 3D animator..

However, if I made a guess and bought one of those cards, how would I know if it was the correct one or not? I've never used Crossfire before.

    Thanks for your time,

  • Flu worse than swine flu, difficult breathing, can't sleep for coughing up ridiculous amounts of crap?

Basically what the title says.. I caught this after a night of heavy drinking.

I live in Australia, but am from England, so I've seen 10 times the strains of cold and flu viruses most people here have, and rarely catch anything, except for the swine flu, which was not the worst flu I'd had by a long shot.

Now the flu I've had this weekend, tops the worst flu I've ever had by a long shot, I'm coughing up a lot of stuff, more and more as the day goes on, though I earlier thought I was getting better.. now it's getting harder to breathe, especially when lying down, and I have to blow my nose every 5-20 seconds, and am wondering where the hell it could possibly all be coming from.

I've been taking vitamin C tables, eating lots of fruit and veg, keeping my fluids up, drinking guava juice and orange juice, taking long hot showers, keeping warm as I can, drinking lots of hot green tea with honey etc.

I'm also concerned about any danger I may pose to my fiance.. it's been 2 days, and we've been avoiding intimate contact, but sleeping in the same bed, though she hasn't shown any symptoms yet.. she's usually over-sensitive to the flu and couldn't avoid catching it if we stayed on opposite sides of the unit, so that's odd, but good, meaning shes probably immune from initial light exposure, right..?

Basically I'm just worried about the difficulty breathing thing, and am wondering if anyone has any advice about this, is it dangerous? Is it ever normal for stuff to build up in your lungs this fast, or should I go to a hospital with it? It kind of feels like chronic bronchitis came on 5 times as fast as it ever has (which I've had 11 times before), at the same time as the flu.

I've also had pains in the bottoms of my lungs, mostly the left, for years.. they appear for a few seconds at a time, really sharp, 2-10 times a day in one out of 10 days, and doctors have examined my lungs many times and can't see any problem, so I'm also wondering if this is the next stage of some undiagnosed disease? Like I said, I've had the flu very bad before, and most of the symptoms are consistent, but this is so much worse than anything before, I figure better safe than sorry.

    Thanks for your time,

  • Painful when wiping after toilet.. both me and my partner, so it's contagious?

Both me and my fiance are really sore when wiping.. since it's both of us, it's unlikely hemorrhoids, as she must have caught whatever it is from me somehow.

My symptoms also include mad and uncontrollable itching of the sphincter .

We don't put anything in those places, I believe she's had STD tests within the last month, and we're clean.

We're hygienic people, have a healthy diet, a water filter, eat a lot of fruit & veg, not much meat though, but we try to avoid all food with poisons in such as unsafe emulsifiers, artificial colours, flavours, sweeteners, preservatives etc.

Also, I know I wipe correctly, and we have soft paper.

I've had this problem since the actual day we met 2 years ago, though it usually only comes back for around 4-5 days every 5 months or so.. I did originally have to a hemorrhoid I had to push back in >.<

Very rarely, I've had small amounts of blood with stringy bits in it.

She just got this problem yesterday, and it came back for me 5 days ago.

Any ideas what might be the cause?

  • Female sexuality problems?

My fiance has a few issues due to several types of medication massively decreasing her sex drive, one being for anxiety, the other for post traumatic stress disorder, she also has some other issues..

We basically have no idea how to correct it and she would sooner go skydiving than face the embarrassment of asking a doctor, so I figured I may be able to find a solution online.. however that's proven quite confusing.

Am I right in assuming that she simply needs more estrogen? And are there any dangers of that if so? I've read about methods of consumption and believe the patches would be the only safe way to really take it, but there is mixed information about that.. would this harm her if she's quite prone to infections having never been sexually active for most of her life? She's 29 and often finds intercourse to be quite painful.

Thanks for your time, please no non-helpful replies or adverts, as it will mean the question appears answered!

(Sorry but someone kept doing that to my questions about a potentially terminal disease, so I've no doubt these people will pounce on any question with a fake random answer for the points, and I will report you.)

  • Why are corporations only allowed to kill people slowly?

So to maximise the capitalist ideal of profit, corporations may use poisonous ingredients, often numbered instead of labelled, and more recently secret entirely under labels of just "colour" or "flavour", all because it's cheaper to use or make these ingredients or they make people addicted to the product, even with scents in cleaning poisons and whatever.. whatever the money saving reason, it generally causes slow and painful deaths.. other than saving the profits of the chemo industry though, I do wonder why they are not simply allowed to break into our homes, kill us, and inherit all our belongings?

This would prevent a lot of pain and suffering and further save on production costs until the human race can get it's act together and figure out a functioning system that isn't based off of a game of monopoly.

Maybe when somebody wins, the rest of us will figure that out?

  • Incubating fruit/veg, from sprouting, without the plant?

So I accidentally picked a cucumber off a plant im growing when it was only 2cm, and I had an interesting thought..

If a tube that the stem could slot into with a needle going into it to hold it on could be attached to a hospital drip or something with all the nutrients it normally needs, with vitamin D so it doesn't need sunlight etc, perhaps some setup like that would be possible in order to grow fruit and veg indoors without taking up any space and keeping it pest free..?

Has anyone heard of anyone trying anything like this before?

  • Using HTML to retrieve # of Likes of Facebook Pages, and # of Members of Groups, and combining them into a sin?

I have a network of over a hundred Facebook Pages & Groups, and on our website, which is made using Yola (which allows only HTML boxes).

Using HTML, I wish to retrieve the numbers from these pages, and using maths, if that's possible with HTML, combine them into a single number.

I do have my own personal web host which I can use if any extra files are needed to do this, if I can then retrieve the number from there using HTML in the Yola site..

But the reality is that my skills reach their limits at copying and pasting in code that's written for me, and changing simple values.. so basically I have no coding skills whatsoever apart from making sense of more obvious things.

If anyone could give me a fully coded example of how this would work, that would be amazing, thank you for your time =)

  • Tick's head stuck in my girlfriend's neck?

It was a beige coloured tick in Sydney, she pulled it off on the way home, at a bloody angle, instead of waiting for some information, so now she has it's snout stuck in her neck at such an angle in the skin that squeezing it only folds that bit inwards making it impossible to pull out with pliers; anyone have any ideas?

    And is this serious?

All content on the internet about removing their heads is about while still attached to the body, there is NOTHING about removing a snapped off snout/head =/

  • Photoshop - Drag and drop images come out the wrong size?

    Ah this is so frustrating..

I have 100 pictures I need to put into a single image (a 30,000px backdrop of mountains for a 3D environment)

The problem is that when I click and drag them in for the auto-placement thing, they come in at about 10% of their actual size.

If I copy the image data then they come out the right size of-course, just importing does not..

But copying the image data means opening them as new images, promoting the background to a layer, selecting with the marquee tool, then copying, then switching back, then pasting.. I could set up a macro do to this for all of them but I shouldn't have to, it's ridiculous.

I wish PSP 7 wasn't running out of memory on this.. I have no choice but to use Photoshop >.<

    Thanks for your time,

  • How to set up an image spanning 3 screens, not duplicated on each?

This is really frustrating, wherever I search for instructions on how to do this, all I get is people offering 3 screen wallpapers for download, or showing off their 3 screen wallpapers in use..

There seems NOWHERE to be any explanation as how to make this work in the first place on Windows 7.

I have images that would roughly fit across my 3 screens, just cut a few out of that 25gb Galaxy pic that came out the other day, but when I set any as my background, they are simply centred on each screen individually, duplicated.. I just want it to go across them all, but Windows 7 is so dumbed down from XP there's no settings anywhere to have any chance at making this happen, what the hell am I missing?

  • Unfit mother keeping the child from the father in the UK?

I'm sick of hearing about this happening, but it's happened to another friend recently..

He's a really nice guy, too nice, and he had a daughter with his girlfriend over a year ago.

Half a year ago, the mother dumps him, takes the baby, and refuses to let him see her at all, he hasn't seen his daughter since.

The mother constantly demands money for their daughter though because she can't afford nappies or food for her because she spends all the money she gets for that on going out and getting drunk or whatever, probably spends it on other drugs or smokes, not sure but you get the idea.

The guy can barely afford his rent for how much money she's sucking out of him for the baby just so she can party all she likes, and she won't even let him see his own daughter, this is f**king messed up.

This is in the UK btw, and is a very common situation there, does anyone have any idea what he can do about it? He has no money as a result of this situation, so can't afford to pay for justice via courts, is there any free way he could get something like visitation rights or even custody of his daughter if that's what he wants? (which he probably does)

  • Google search result for my name comes up with something that is ruining my career?

So if I do a Google Search for my name (Tony Ganner) as any potential employer would.. (and keep in mind, these employers are film and tv studios, so one look at this next to the other 200 applicants and I'm gone without a second thought) it says "I smoked weed 3 times in 1 weekend and then 2 weeks later i.."

    Like seriously??

This post is nothing to do with me..

I replied to the guy's question about 8 years ago to give him some reassuring advice..

2 years ago I removed my reply and changed the account's name from my own name when I found it, but still.. this is what comes up when people search for me, it's embarrassing, it makes me look like a juvenile fool, and in the face of so much competition as an animator it quite literally just destroys any hope I have of landing most jobs I apply for.. it's all contract work and the hiring is cut-throat, scanning and choosing the best looking applicant.. nobody is going to click that link to see if it's actually anything to do with me, but it comes up 5th on my search, it's driving me nuts.

I know most people wouldn't take this seriously, but as an animator looking to work on feature films, or atleast in a few more tv studios, considering most employers will google every applicant and scan through the results.. producers and creative directors being in their 40s, and human resource people not usually being the type to have ever taken drugs means my applications are probably getting thrown away because of this atleast 30% of the time.. =/

Anyone know what I can do about this? I already wrote to the company whose website it is when I initially changed the name and removed the comment but they didn't even reply.

  • Landlord's responsibilities towards asbestos in Australia?

Unless there's some building material that looks similar then the whole surface of my attic underneath the glass wool is Asbestos..

It looks like this: http://www.builderbill-diy-help.com/image-files/as... (not an actual photo of mine but I'm 90% sure it's the same material).

It's an old house that looks as though it was built in the 30s or 40s, but my unit is an extension probably built between somewhere between 1960 to 1980.

I'm wondering about the dangers of this and if it's my landlord's responsibility to fix this?

And how seriously will they take it?

It took me 3 months and 20 phone calls to get a working oven, 2 weeks to get a blockage removed from the toilet from the previous residents during which time we had to **** in a bucket, they refuse to fix a lightswitch that keeps electrocuting us, and the power for the shared laundry (in which there is no space for us to have our own machine and everyone else has their own) comes directly from our own unit..

Based on this, how likely does it sound that they would take Asbestos seriously? (I'm not sure how serious it's taken).

I'm also pretty sure the paint on the ceiling has lead in it, it's always flaking off, looks old, pasty, and dark grey underneath..

  • Dell Trinitron used to run at 85hz, now keeps getting stuck at 60?

It's hurting my eyes now on a new computer with Eyefinity.. I have an HD screen on an HDMI cable, a 4:3 LCD and this Dell Trinitron.

My GPU is a Radeon HD 7850, which has DVI, HDMI, and 2 Mini Display Port outputs.

It doesn't matter if the Dell is plugged in by VGA through the Display Port Adaptor or by a Digital DVI adaptor as I've always used it on other machines, the 60hz limit still seems to be there on this machine.

The Dell supports up to resolutions of 1600x1200, though it's too fuzzy to read text on so I run it at 1280x1024..

Regardless of that, nothing I do will allow it to run higher than 60hz on this machine, while it still has the option of 75 on the other computer I have it plugged into (it has dual input).

The only way I can set it to 85hz is by disconnecting all the other screens first.. once they are plugged back in, all is fine, until I reboot again or turn the screen off.

Anyone got any ideas why this is, and how to prevent it?

Does anyone know of a security program that wont rape an old system? I'm using AVG and it just dominates the RAM on this old Dell Latitude D600 laptop.. the system runs ridiculously slow with it, fast as it should without.. im thinking it's worth just reinstalling windows every few weeks when it gets riddled with viruses, does anyone have a better solution?

  • Recovered files are corrupt..?

I recently had an HDD that stopped working after using a box thing that plugs into my tv like a little media player for USB drives.

It stopped being readable on XP, could be opened on Win 7, but most folders refused to open, it ran incredibly slow, and copying from it was incredibly slow too. It appeared the file format system and list of directories or whatever had gone corrupt..

The whole time I was incredibly careful not to rename, copy, or modify any files at all on the drive, made sure nothing was written to it in the slightest sense for the sake of recovering files.

Recover My Files allowed me to recover 90% of everything that was on it no problem, the files are there, the sizes are correct, extensions correct.. yet no video files, images, or even executables seem to just do nothing.. they appear perfectly fine, are the right sizes.. but everything appears to be completely empty.

Video files have "cannot render the file" in MPC, or just freeze at 00:00 with the maximum time saying it's 00:00 too.. MediaInfo recognises them only as blank files of the correct size, sees no relevant info at-all, completely blank.

.doc, .nfo, .txt, anything, all seemingly empty when opened with corresponding programs while the file sizes all look appropriate..

Any ideas what's going on here?

    Thanks for your time,

    Tony

  • How to check my credit rating?

You probably don't need to read all below if there's a way to easily check, but just incase, here's the short and vacant history of me and money:

As a contractor/small business owner/animator, I've never had the luxury of a full-time job, rarely have enough money coming in to support myself, payments going into my account are pretty much random, I've had one internet bill bounce, and have gone overdrawn by $5 in Australia a few times, while the same happened in my first 20 years in the UK about 10 times (both on accounts that are not supposed to be able to go overdrawn).

I had to close an ANZ bank account here because the $5 a month fees sent it overdrawn a few times and I wasn't earning enough to afford it.

At one point I had earned enough on a 6 month contract for a deposit on a house and after being passed around on the phone found out that I was still not eligible for a mortgage because of my lack of financial history..

I did manage to claim my tax returns from that year, but have otherwise never earned enough to pay tax.

I have never missed or been late with a payment on the rent or bills, and have only ever claimed the Disability Living Allowance in the UK, while I've never been (and am still not) allowed any other form of financial support.

Also they cut my DSA payments off 3 months after I moved to Australia (instead of the 6 months maximum it was supposed to be), trapping me here from the age of 20.

I've now had to wait nearly 4 years and will be eligible for citizenship soon (the bastards changed it from having to have been here for 2 years to 4 years when I'd been here a year and 11 months!)
