I never expect much from birthdays cause whenever i plan, they never work out - such is life!

But from your long term partner and best friend (who expects a lot from others), is it wrong to expect a special surprise? I dont mean an expensive gift or fireworks that spell out my name... Just something that they'd know would mean a lot to me...

Is that being really stupid? half of me thinks so and the other half thinks there should be something at least...

I've been in my relationship for two years. We're both grown adults.

I had a very terrible breakup last time round and knew from that that anything can happen at any time so you can never guarantee that you will be with the same person in 2 years let alone 10.

my issue is that whenever we get in an argument (normal relationship rubbish) about wanting this outta life or that (just the usual daydream future stuff like living somewhere or a major holiday abroad - not kids as we're both not sure we want kids) he always starts saying that maybe i want a more reliable relationship cause he cant promise me anything...

He says its to stay realistic and i totally understand that. Am i wrong to feel a little bad that he won't make any promises? He says he loves me and wants to stay with me but can't promise what will happen in the future. Although this is my way of thinking, it doesnt sound nice to hear... (or read now i've written it! lol)

should I be upset? or should i just accept that he IS in fact telling the truth and thank god he doesn't want to make a load of empty promises to me (there's no point saying that kinda stuff if you dont really believe it)

so a while back, my partner did something silly and i found it hard to forgive him. since then i've found it hard to keep control of my anger with him... i'm trying really hard to forgive him but the anger sneaks up on me...

so we had a talk and i said he needs to make it up to me. and he should be making me feel special and reassured about his love for me.

but then i was meant to go to brussels with him on a week long business trip but in the end couldnt. i asked him to cut it short so he could be back in time for us to spend his bday together but he hasnt (said work booked the tickets). so he's in brussels having a great time and i'm stuck at home trying not to be angry...

i'm usually very chilled about about relationship stuff...i think it's cause i've never been through this kind of anger/anxiety that i'm not sure what to do...

I'm almost 30 btw so not a kid who's never had a relationship.

but he told me this morning he was in the shower but it was strange for him not to respond so i went to see if he was online and he'd been chatting to her. is this a little white lie i can let go? he could say he just didnt say cause he didnt want me to get upset but if its innocent, shouldnt he just say so?

and if i say something, he'll know i checked (i have a dodgy history with trust and he's been ok with it but after some time he just gets annoyed cause he thinks i'll never trust him). so he'll be upset i checked but he did lie... don't know if i should just let it go or call him up on it...

My uncle lived by these types of philosophies and was always going on about latin phrases etc – I thought it would be nice to have something like this on his gravestone (he passed away last week from bowel cancer)
