  • Why do you refuse to accept the truth?

All hail the dark pharaoh Nyarlathotep, the Crawling Chaos, our connection to the Outer God Azathoth! Praise the Bloated Woman, the Black Man, the Haunter of the Dark!

  • I'm going on 22 but I look twice that, what can I do?

The question is exaggerated for emphasis, but this is what I look like: http://imageshack.us/a/img715/3399/picture6i.jpg

I'm going to be 22 in a week or two, but nobody believes I'm younger than 30 unless I dig out my driver's license and prove it. Video chatting with people annihilates my self-esteem, because people think I'm some old skeevy pedo. How do I look my real age?

  • Discussing philosophy with a fellow...?

So, I was talking to a fellow Knight the other day, and he insists that the Force doesn't act through people and events or exert its will on the galaxy. I've been trying to persuade him of the Living Force view for ages, but he won't listen; he keeps insisting that the Force is impartial and above our concerns. How do I prove to him that the dark side is inherently imbalancing and the Force has a real will that we try to carry out?

  • Valid definition of a god that must exist?

It occurs to me that there is a definition of god I could be persuaded to accept as necessarily existing.

The universe DOES require a first cause. This cause must be a necessary being, i.e. something which cannot possibly not exist. This first, necessary cause must have directly caused whatever came next (in Aristotle's description of causes, it must be "efficient").

This first, necessary, efficient cause must still exist (it's a necessary being, so it cannot not exist). It must also have the power to cause everything in the universe, either directly or indirectly (making it either omnipotent or close enough for most purposes).

If we stop at this definition and attach nothing else to it except the name "god", it looks like we've got a god that must necessarily exist.

    However...

If we stop at this definition, we've also got a god that apparently neither desires nor deserves worship, or even has anthropomorphic qualities. We've also attached the label "god" rather arbitrarily (you could call it a vorxx if you wanted).

I've identified as an atheist for quite some time, but does this make me a deist? Any other thought/comments/considerations/rebuttals?

  • I'm losing my hair at 19 and need a good hairstyle?

I'm only 19, but already my hairline is receding at a surprising and very noticeable rate.

    http://img695.imageshack.us/img695/9462/picture15s...

I know that picture looks kind of bad. That's because the lighting sucks and I have to grow out my beard for a play. The hair, though, is my current situation, and what I'm worried about.

Do you have any recommendations for hairstyles that can keep my rapidly receding hairline and thinning frontal locks from making me look like a 43-year-old pedophile?

  • How do Christians reconcile the following with how they live their lives?

11Jesus replied, "Not everyone can accept this word, but only those to whom it has been given. 12For some are eunuchs because they were born that way; others were made that way by men; and others have renounced marriage* because of the kingdom of heaven. The one who can accept this should accept it."'

    *Or have made themselves eunuchs

    Matthew 19:11-12

You heard the man. Snip snip. This is your god, asking you to castrate yourself. Have you done it?

  • Given that I'm an atheist...?

Is it at all ironic that my Magic: The Gathering deck is extremely Angel-heavy?

  • Spiritually speaking...?

What's R&S's favorite kind of tea? I'm big on both coffee and tea, but I'm looking for a new taste. I currently like black teas, for the most part, and chai currently tops my list.

  • A challenge to creationists and non-creationists alike?

All right, for the creationists: I want your best possible argument for Noah's flood.

For the non-creationists: I want your best refutation of Noah's flood.

    No biting.

    No hitting below the belt.

    GO!

  • Regarding this new vampire fad...?

When will it die? I'm sick of hearing about Stephenie Meyer's series of suefics and the massive number of crappy fanfics that have resulted. I'm sick of people acting all emo and claiming vampirism. I'm sick of fundamentalist Christian douchebags like Jack Chick thinking that "OMG VAMPYREZ DO EXIST 4 REEL GUISE N THEY SERVE DA DEVIL".

Most of all, I'm sick of seeing awesome old legends twisted into mysteriously popular crap. Whatever happened to good old-fashioned Dracula-style stories? Are those now solely in the realm of video games like Castlevania and The Elder Scrolls?
