  • What's a good drink to get at a coffee shop?

So, I'm always confused by the options. I did some research and now kind of understand the difference between stuff like latte and macchiato and what-not.

What I'm wondering is, what's a good flavor combination? I've always gotten just the house blend (or French Roast if they have it (the local place I hit up before work only does French Roast on Thursdays)). But I want to try some of the more complex drinks. It's just a little daunting, given all the options.

For the record, I LOOVE black coffee. French or even Italian roast, with that really bitter flavor is phenomenal! ^_^

  • Could this be considered a compliment?

So, my friends and I had a long debate over this and never came up with a definitive answer. A guy I know used this line on a friend of mine recently. She seemed really confused about how to respond, so I'm wondering what you guys think. There's a definite insult in there, but could it also be taken as a slight compliment?

  • 2008 Ram Laramie vs 2008 Ram Big Horn?

Okay, so this is probably going to sound fairly dumb to you guys, but I don't really know anything about vehicles. I'm 21 years old and in the market for a truck (I'm tired of trying to drive my '03 Mitsubishi Eclipse in Minnesota winters....). So, I've narrowed it down to two trucks, but I'm not sure what the difference is between a Laramie and a Big Horn. I've got all the financials worked out, so that's not a problem. It's just a matter of which truck at this point. Hopefully you guys can help me out! I'll post the specs down below:

    2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Laramie

    Quad Cab, 6.3ft box

    4WD

    4.7L V8 Automatic

    12/16 mpg

    63,200 miles

    leather upholstery

    $19,944

2008 Dodge Ram 1500 Big Horn

    Quad cab, 6.3ft box

    4WD

    4.7L V8 Automatic

    13/17 mpg

    31,385 miles

    leather upholstery

    $22,995

To me, they look like the same truck, only with different mileage. So, I guess my question: Is it worth it to pay the extra $3k for a Big Horn edition? I don't know enough about cars to know the difference (even if someone rattled off the specs). Or is the price difference mostly in the mileage? These are from two different dealerships, located cross-town from each other.

    Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

  • Do I need to replace my HDD?

Okay, so I've got a laptop that won't boot into Windows. It posts fine, it just hangs as soon as Windows starts to load. It did fail a Read/Verify test, and I've got chkdsk running right now. It did pass the S.M.A.R.T. tests, and the C: partition passed chkdsk with no errors. Right now, it's been hung on 11% on the D: drive for around 24 hours now (which is just the recovery partition).

So, what I'm wondering is, assuming chkdsk ever finishes, will I be fine to keep using this HDD? It's a fairly old computer, and frankly if the HDD is flat out failed, I will just trash the computer and get a new one. I booted with a Puppy Linux disc and I can still view all of my files and everything on the HDD, so it might just be bad sectors?

Like I said, I've got chkdsk still running right now. After that I intend to run a defrag. Any advice you can give me as to whether this is worth it, or should I just scrap it?

  • How much bandwidth does Pandora/Spotify use?

I've been using my S3 as an MP3 player in my car, and I usually just stream Pandora or Spotify playlists, rather than my own music. My problem is, I'm on Verizon's 2GB data cap, and I want to make sure I won't go over the limit. Any idea how much data, say, an hour's worth of Pandora/Spotify uses? That would at least give me a good starting point to calculate it all out and figure out if I need to upgrade to the 5GB or 10GB packages.

  • What image file types support empty space?

I'm actually just curious here. I've been playing around in Photoshop quite a bit lately and noticed that when I saved an image as a JPEG, I would have white space surrounding my image (most of them are 3D images). But then I noticed that if I saved it as a PNG, it saves the empty space, making it much easier to overlay into another image.

So my question then is: what other file types support empty space rather than filling it in with white space? TIFF? GIF? BMP?

  • Unable to Connect to Network Share?

So, I've got a Windows 7 Professional (x86) laptop that I'm trying to map network drives on. It's not tied to any domain, so I've been trying to connect with the IP rather than with name resolution. However, I keep getting hit with that handy "Windows cannot access \\192.168.X.X\". The folders I am trying to map are on a domain-controlled data server (running Windows Server 2003), and the passwords and everything are set up correctly (I've done this dozens of times on other computers for these same drives). I've tried mapping drives from each of our servers, but no luck.

I can ping the servers just fine with the internal IP addresses, but it refuses to let me map them. As a fix, I thought "Well, maybe I can just join this computer to the domain and connect via name resolution instead". Well, I tried that, but then I got a "Windows was unable to join the specified domain" error. I've tried editing the security policies, both the LAN Manager Authentication Level and the "Do not allow anonymous enumeration of SAM accounts and shares" (this was a fix I saw posted on the Microsoft forums). No dice.

Any ideas? What I'm actually trying to do is map drives through a Hamachi tunneling engine, which just uses the virtual IP from Hamachi, but when that didn't work I noticed that I wasn't able to map ANY drives or access any network resources. Help?!

  • Is this pump strong enough?

Okay, so I've been looking into adding liquid cooling into my PC for awhile now. I've been browsing around some mid to high-end cooling kits, and I found this one:

    http://www.frozencpu.com/products/11743/ex-wat-159...

In addition to this though, I also want to add a GPU water block (my GTX 560Ti gets quite hot, like around 160°F (70°C) at peak usage) and possibly a chipset water block as well.

My question is, will this pump be strong enough to handle that many blocks? I've never set up liquid cooling before, so this is all completely new to me. I just want to make sure I won't burn out the pump too quickly by adding the extra blocks.

  • Making a program more efficient (Java)?

So, I'm a noob programmer. But I've written a program that reads text from a txt file and writes it to a JFrame with an uneditable JTextArea. The program is meant to work as an announcements system for our company. The executable JAR and txt file sit on the server and are launched via a batch file for every user when they log on. This displays the JFrame with the txt file data with a nice, clean interface and leaves the text files editable only to administrators and supervisors.

My problem is that, in order to launch the program, I had to write a batch that temporarily maps a network drive, executes the JAR (which then accesses the txt) and then, upon the user closing the JAR, it disconnects the mapped drive. The entire process actually takes quite a while (anywhere from 5 to 20 seconds, depending on the computer and the connection speeds).

Is there any way I can make this more efficient? I realize that doing this in an executable JAR isn't the best way to go about it to begin with. But, unfortunately, I am a mediocre programmer at best, and I'm trying to stick to stuff I know how to do. Any input is appreciated! ♥

  • How to add JAR to Windows Server 2003 R2 Logon?

So, I've got an executable JAR file that is meant to run our employee announcements system. It reads data from a separate txt file and displays it in a JFrame. My goal is to have this launch at logon for all workstation computers. The program works great! However, I can't get it to auto-launch. I've added it to the Group Policy both under Windows Logon and System Startup. I've added it as a .jar, as a .bat, even as a shortcut....no dice. Is there any way to get a .jar to execute automatically at Windows logon via Group Policy?

Also, I realize that JRE needs to be installed on all workstation computers for the .jar to run. This is not a problem, as many of our programs already require JRE. Our server is Windows Server 2003 R2.

  • Ideas for the extra two bays on my computer case?

I have two open drive bays on my computer case, and one 3.5" bay. I have already mounted my Blu-ray drive, so really I am just wondering what I could use to fill the space? I've looked into getting a dual-bay controller panel, like an AeroCool or an NZXT, but then I found that they make controllers for 3.5" bays. Would it be worth it to go with one of those 3.5" controllers and then a dual-bay liquid cooling unit? Perhaps the ThermalTake Bigwater 760?

I don't really NEED an answer to this question, I'm more looking for a brainstorming of ideas. What would you put in your computer to fill those extra drive bays?

Not that you need it, but here are my computer specs:

    Mobo: ASUS Sabertooth X58 ATX

    HDD: WesternDigital Caviar Black 2TB

    ODD: LG Blu-ray burner

CPU: Intel Core i7 950 Bloomfield (3.06 GHz)

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 560Ti (x2)

    RAM: Patriot Viper Xtreme DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) 12GB (3x4GB)

    PSU: Corsair 750W

PCI-E: AverMedia HD video capture card

    Case: ThermalTake Armor A90

  • Is this legal according to ND law?

Recently, I received a minor in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The police knocked on the door and introduced themselves as "pizza delivery guys" and then entered the apartment. They did have noise complaints and what not, but by lying to the citizens, is it actually legal to enter the premises and issue citations? It is my first offense, and I'm perfectly fine with taking it, but if the officers actually did overstep their authority, then I'm absolutely not going to take it sitting down.

  • What is the meaning of life?

I find myself in a very philosophical mood at the moment. I am wondering, what is the purpose of life? What are we supposed to accomplish while we are here? It seems that throughout history, our main objective has been to achieve as much bloodshed as possible whilst avoiding any possibility of unification and peace at all costs. What awaits us after death? Are we to believe the carefully structured afterlife as described by Dante Alighieri? Are we doomed to repeat the entire process over by means of reincarnation? Or do we simply enter the same state of unconsciousness that gripped us before our conception?

I ask this because I simply can't find any reason for my own existence. I'm not suicidal, mind you....merely contemplative. I was just curious as to what other people thought on the subject. Personally, I am quite fond of the loss of consciousness theory. But I've been known to be wrong from time to time.

  • MW2 Throwing Knife Accuracy Glitch?

I think I've stumbled upon a glitch on Modern Warfare 2, and I was wondering if anyone else noticed it as well. Every time I throw a knife, my "Misses" seems to go down by 1, and if I actually hit the target my "Misses" still goes down by 1 and my "Hits" go up by 1. Am I just imagining this or has anyone else noticed it?

  • Is there lower health in Free for All in Modern Warfare 2?

  • How do I fix this problem?

I have Vista on my computer. I have had no problems whatsoever, and have loved it so far. However, just the other day, my battery power and volume control icons have disappeared from the bottom left corner. I do not know how to get them back. I have not changed any settings. I'm not sure what I did, but they are just simply gone. I don't remember making fun of them or hurting their feelings in any way. Maybe they are just more sensitive than your average icons. Either way, it makes things very inconvenient. Any ideas on how to get them back?

  • Is the LG LHB953 home theater system a multi-format player?

I bought the home theater system, but I couldn't find anywhere, neither in the owner's manual nor on the LG website, that says whether or not it plays DVD's or Blu-Rays from other regions.
