  • Does the Japanese name Amayuki (天佑輝) mean anything?

I know what the kanji mean, but it doesn't make much sense to me together.

  • How to cite a source used in an entire paper?

A class of mine requires I use MLA style citations. However, the assignment is to write a paper summarizing and responding to a given book (A Promised Land by Ari Shavit). If the entire paper is based upon an excerpt of a book, what is the correct way to cite it? Please note that the essay does include other sources throughout.

  • How do you feel about the term "ethnic hair"?

I'm writing a paper for my African-American Lit class. When submitting the topic I wanted to do for an essay - ethnic hair - my professor put in quotations like it was offensive or not a real term.

In cosmetology, ethnic hair is used to describe something with dark, coarse, and curly hair. Typically it's only used for describing a hair type when asking advice. However, I would love to hear how women/men of color feel about this term. If you could include your ethnicity or if this is applicable while answering that would be awesome.

  • Can Sodium Lauryl Sulfate + water create a safe detergent?

I'm curious if creating a solution of only SLS and water would be safe to use as a laundry detergent. I don't know too much about SLS, so my concern would be some kind of unstable solution if kept over time or something along those lines.

  • (Hyper) guinea pig won't let me hold him?

I just adopted a new guinea pig on Tuesday from a shelter; he seems about 1.5 years old. They told me he liked being held and was fine when I was carrying him around the first day. Now he will eat from my hand, knows who I am, but does not like being picked up and will run away if I try to put him in my lap.

    Any tips?

He's currently separated from the other pigs for quarantine, so I wonder if he just needs another pig to entertain him. He gets plenty of floortime currently, and will be moved into a bigger cage with other pigs next week.

  • Fantasy book with a golem named Eli?

I think it may have been called something like "Overwatch." I think there was a woman named Sarah with white hair. It was about a secret society protecting the world from evil. I want to say it came out in 2012.

  • What cosmetology licensing is required to work on a US cruise ship?

Please list reference, even if it is from personal experience working on a ship.

Expected/estimated salary would be swell, too.

  • What do salon owners look for in new stylists?

As a cosmetology student, I'm a little worried about going into the work force. I'd be about the 15th out of 20 students to finish a hair cut or style and I'm concerned speed is much more important to employers than technical knowledge or skill.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Best foundation/concealer for acne?

I recently switched birth controls which has led me to break out pretty badly. It's normal acne (blackheads and white heads, nothing cystic or inflammatory) and I have normal to dry skin.

The foundation I use now looks cakey and I'm not sure if that's part of the texture of the acne or because the foundation isn't suited for my skin anymore, as it worked well before I got acne.

  • How to dilute tea tree oil for keloids?

I cannot find any good information on this.

I plan to dilute with grapeseed oil as I can't see diluting with distilled water very evenly.

  • How do Mary Kay tax deductions work?

I just started Mary Kay and have put about $1000 in toward products for demos and inventory.

My sales director assures me it's all tax deductible, but what does that really mean? If I don't make the $5, 000 or so that's required for someone to pay taxes, how do I get this money back?

  • Where are small business/self-employed deductions deducted from?

I just started work as a Mary Kay consultant, and have been told many of my expenses are tax deductible.

But where do these deductions come from? I have more loss than profit, and I can't see the government just giving me money.

  • What is the difference between an ETF, an index fund, and a stock?

I have seen similar questions, but not necessarily what I'm looking for.

I'm hoping for an explanation more toward Layman's terms than a stock broker's. I'm hoping to make investments sometime in the furture -- I only recently turned 18 -- however, I'm still learning the very basics.

    Thank you for your time!

  • Spanish translation for cafe-related conversation?

I work at Starbucks and in the event a Spanish-speaking customer comes in, I want to be able to help them. I did take 3 years of Spanish, but I want to be able to speak in the way people in Mexico speak, not necessarily what's grammatically correct.

    Here's what I need checked/translated

    1. How may I help you?

    2. Green/black tea = te' verde/*****

    3. Java chips -- these are basically chocolate chips that taste like coffee.

    4. Syrup -- like flavored syrup that is put in coffee

    5. Cookie crumble -- basically crushed cookies

    6. Sugar free = sin azu'car

Thank you so much for your help!

  • Dress code for Starbucks (nails, makeup)?

I start training tomorrow but have not yet gotten a manual. I was wondering what their nail and makeup policies are, along with anything you think is helpful.

    Thank you!

  • Ways to gain muscle quickly without steroids?

Due to a medical condition, I have been in bed and otherwise pretty sedentary. In that time my muscle mass has really decreased, so when I feel well enough to do normal activities, my body just can't do them.

I've tried physical therapy, but because I have an inflammatory disease, its hard to do a little for a long time. My best bet is to gain muscle fast and work to maintain that.

I see my doctor Monday, but I would like some ideas to talk to him about.

  • Things an American should know when travelling to Japan?

I'm more familiar with the historical aspects of Japanese culture than modern etiquette. I plan to go to Okinawa this November.

I've heard many, many things about how different Americans and the Japanese are, and I would really like to be polite and respectful of their culture on my trip.

  • Planning a trip to Okinawa (tips please)?

I'm planning a trip for this November to Japan for the Marine ball. I will be flying into Naha.

I was hoping for some tips from people who have already been to Okinawa as I've never been to Asia.

    Here's what I'm interested in:

-- How many people speak English? I am planning on learning as much Japanese as I can, but I definitely won't be fluent.

-- Do US dollars need to be exchanged? When I've travelled to Hispanic countries we've never needed to exchange money and just new the exchange rate.

-- Is renting a car worth it? I was going to apply for my international driver's license regardless, just in case, but I've heard different things about driving there.

-- What are prices like? I cannot for the life of me find an English site. I was thinking about taking a ferry to some of the nearby islands.

Any other tips/advice you have would be wonderful! Thank you so much.
