3 AnswersDrawing & Illustration1 decade agoTried and True Methods, to stop puppy biting?
My fiancee and I recently brought home a female bullmastiff, who is now 12 weeks old. She, as all puppies do, has a problem with biting because of teething. However we have tried the toys, ice cubes, frozen chew toys, nylabones. All of which she destroys and seems very unsatisfied with. We bought her a kong as well, filled it with peanut butter. She licked it clean, and then walks away.
We took her to the vet for her last shots, and the Vet told us to press down her tongue and say "no" or "bad girl" when she does it. Which we have done for about two weeks, and she actually seems to be getting worse. She is getting a strong enough jaw so that the puppy nips are starting to break skin and she goes from sweetheart to satan in a flash.
Any suggestions that you can do to help us break her of this habit will help greatly. We do not want to hurt her, but it seems as though she is not responding to any of our methods. We are afraid that we will have to turn to more extreme methods. (By extreme methods, we do not mean that we would hit her or anything of that nature, please do not misunderstand the statement)
Thanks.
5 AnswersDogs1 decade agoHow to amend my 2008 taxes?
My fiancee and I filed are taxes as soon as we got our W-2s. To get a quicker return. Well, we also are closing on a house this week, and found out that we can get the $8,000 new house rebate, part of the stimulus plan. How can I amend my taxes to get this refund now? It would greatly help with all the new expensives. Any links and advice will be a great help.
4 AnswersUnited States1 decade agoHow much to feed out 9 week old female Bullmastiff?
We picked her up Friday from the Breeder, and per her instructions we are to feed her 1 1/4 cup of food, twice a day until 3 months. Then 1 1/2 cups until 6 months, then 2 cups twice a day forever. However, in the 4 short days we have had her, she seems to be getting thinner. He ribs are starting show when she does certain movements. We are feeding her Purina One Large Breed Puppy, Breeder's recommendation as well. She finishes her bowl of food in about 2 minutes. And in addition she is getting 4 to 5 treats a day when she goes to the bathroom. We plan on switching her to Taste of the Wild High Prairie at 6 months, but are just worried that we are not feeding her enough. She weighs 17 pounds today.
Any advice you can share on bullmastiffs, or any other large breed feeding regimen. We have searched the internet but are looking for success stories from people who know what works. Thanks.
3 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat are some tried and true new puppy methods for Housebreaking and Chewing/Biting?
We have been, stopping her when she begins to go to the bathroom inside, putting her leash on, and taking her outside. She seems to get it, but almost as though she think she should not go to the bathroom at all after we stop her. So it takes quite a while for her to go outside. We give her praise and a treat after each successful bathroom run.
She has been very nippy and chewing on everything, I know puppies do this, but we are more concerned with her knowing what she cannot chew on and have been presenting her with acceptable options (i.e.- chew toys). When she does bite, we have been hitting the end of her nose with our finger and giving her a firm NO. But she usually bites back at our finger.
Background:
She is a 9 week old, Female, Bullmastiff and we have only had her a short time.
Any opinions, advice, or options will be greatly appreciated.
4 AnswersDogs1 decade agoIs it a good idea to start my Bullmastiff puppy on a glucosamine-chondroitin regimine this young?
Should I wait until she is older, or can it be used as a preventative method for joint issues? I understand that is supposed to ease pain with arthritis etc. But will do any harm to start now?
4 AnswersDogs1 decade agoWhat food would you recommend for a Bullmastiff?
I have been doing research and what I have come up with, is that you want a protein-based (chicken, lamb, bison, salmon, etc.) food. Obviously I want something that will allow for a steady growth to maturity as to avoid joint issues, but also something that will help with digestion without having too much gas or issues with loose stool. I have found the following options to be "the best" by reviews and vet opinion, in no particular order:
1. Solid Gold
2. Blue Buffalo
3. Canidae
4. Innova
5. Orijen
I am leaning towards the Solid Gold, but if anyone has experience with large or extra-large breeds and these foods, please comment. Thanks.

We are getting a fawn colored Bull Mastiff puppy and we want her to have a unique name. We want it to mean something as well. Possibly something Irish or Celtic in meaning. Thanks
