  • What does a Canadian need to go to school in the US?

    This site (http://1.usa.gov/1jmAWyf) states that Canadian citizens do not need visas to study in the U.S. Basically, I'm asking if this is true, and, if so, how would a Canadian citizen be allowed to stay in the country for more than six months if they don't have a visa? Thank you.

  • Does Laguardia Airport split US Citizens from non-Citizens at entry?

    I am flying back to the US from Canada in a few days with my girlfriend. I am a US citizen, but she is not. I know that the international airport in Toronto funneled arriving passengers into two different sections for Citizens/Residents and non-Citizens/Residents. Does LGA do the same thing for international flights? Thank you.

  • Combine string with regex?

    (c#) I am fairly new to using regex and I am not entirely clear on the syntax for everything yet. Basically I am stuck on a bit of code where I have:

    if(@"\d{2,}\s"+string == Path.GetFileNameWithoutExtension(dir))

    {

    do stuff

    }

    My problem is that it won't match anything. I basically have a bunch of files that it's searching through that all have 2 digits and a space, then the name that the user is searching for. Can I combine regex + string like that or is the problem with my regex/statement? I apologize if the problem is obvious, I've only been playing with regex for a few days...

  • Steps to Canadian Citizenship?

    I am currently a US citizen seeking to study and eventually gain citizenship in Alberta. My girlfriend (Citizen) has offered to let me live with her throughout my education/citizenship process. Firstly, I am unsure if I can get just a study permit for a Electrician Apprenticeship Program offered at the college I plan on attending, or if I need to get a study and work permit... Then, after my education is complete, I am a little fuzzy on how to proceed... As of right now, marriage seems to be a very real possibility, as we have been together for quite some time and we don't see an end in sight... But any help on clearing up the rest of what I need to do would be very helpful, and I would appreciate it greatly!

  • Next step in moving to Canada?

    My goal is to get moved in with my girlfriend in Alberta by the end of this year, but I am so confused by the many options for work permits/visas/programs/whatevers... Quite simply, I already have a place where I will live there, and I'm just looking for a simple job to get started with. There is a massive amount of work available in the area I will be moving to, so finding a job should be very easy. I just want something along the lines of a grocery store job or some type of physical labor job, just something simple and easy to get. I know I'll need a Work Permit... but I'm unsure whether I need to find a job first or apply for the permit first... or if I would be better off finding one the many other types of visas/programs that are out there... Btw, I currently reside in the US and I hold a passport card...

  • Whats the point to my life?

    In short, I am currently employed as a stocker at a local grocery store. I will (hopefully) soon begin a job as a Network Administrator. I lack many of the social graces commonly found in society, nor do I posses any significant aesthetic appeal. Statistically, the chances of me finding a compatible mate are about a 1 in 157,000; probably a little less. I most likely won't make any important contribution to society and, most likely, will just end up serving a roll as yet another American consumer. Sure I'll buy a house and a decent car at some point, then pay taxes on them to ever-so-slightly add to the wealth of the nation, but I'm really not content with that. I'll tell you up front; I'm an Atheist. Always have been, always will be. As I see it now, I can either proceed to serve a roll as just another cog in this big, capitalist wheel, or I can save everyone else the trouble and just remove myself from existence. Really, I would just like any kind of thoughts or comments, possibly a suggestion or two. I just really don't see any real point in maintaining my existence.

  • How can I remove a stuck oil filter?

    I tried changing my own oil in a car that I just bought in an attempt to save about $30, but when I went to change the filter, I found that I couldn't get a grip on it with either of the filter wrenches I have. It's incredibly small and I suspect it is the wrong type of filter for the car. Nothing I do can even get it turning in the slightest. The car is a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant.

  • Can a teacher teach a dualcredit course without a master's degree?

    I have a teacher this year who is straight out of college. She is teaching a algebraic physics class when she has only taken a calculus-based physics class. She did not major in physics and doesn't even hold a master's for it. My classmates and myself are all suffering from poor grades in her class because she is incapable of setting up a single, error-free example. Just today, she spent 30 minutes bumbling through an example out of our book, changing her "final answer" about 10 times because she couldn't figure out the calculations. Most of the class in paying for dual-credit (Receiving High School and College credit), but every single person in the class has a D or an F. Is this even a legal class? Is there any way I can get this taken off my transcript? (Dropping it at semester)

  • Is this legal? Discrimination?

    I was recently banned from my schools computer network because they claim that I was a threat to the network. This is not because of anything I did or was trying to do, just because of what I know how to do. I feel like I'm being discriminated against just because I'm better with computers than anyone else in my school. They even told me "We have NO evidence that you ever did anything harmful or malicious." Does this qualify as discrimination? Is this even legal?

  • What does "subject to auditing" mean exactly?

    Recently I had encrypted my data that was stored on my school's server. The information was stored in a section that each student is allocated for their own individual use. A few days later I was told by the principle that my school network account had been disabled because by encrypting my own, personal data, I had violated my AUP (Technology use agreement form). When I asked what part, they could only point out three words ("subject to auditing") at the very bottom of the form where the parent/guardian signs. This is located BELOW where I, the student, had signed. I would like to know if I had, in fact, violated the agreement. Here is a link to the agreement http://www.bolivar.k12.mo.us/forms/StudentAUP-1128...

  • How to set my mouse to triple click?

    I have a RAT 5 mouse with it's regular macro/mode software. I was wanting to set a "macro" so that when I left-click, it registers and 3-5 clicks instead of one. I also want to be able to toggle this on/off without having to leave my game. Sadly, the regular RAT macro/mode software cannot do this. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • I'm looking for a "gyro" platform?

    I am trying to find a motorized platform that I can attach a cylindrical object to. The object is about 1ft. long and 1.5in. in diameter. It weighs about 2.5lbs. I am just trying to find a platform that can be controlled via computer interface and can move the object on a center pivot so it can rotate 360 degrees and has about a 45 degree maximum tilt upwards. So far I have had no luck in finding such a platform and any help to point me in the right direction would be greatly appreciated.

  • How to tell someone their religion is ruining their life?

    I "have a friend" who is taking their religion (Christianity) to an obsessive extent. I have no problem with Christians, but it is disturbing to see a persons life being destroyed because of it. They have become distant to anyone who does not belong to their church and they are in a profoun state of denial about "God". They litterally thank their "God" verbally, out loud, for anything from waking up in the morning to breathing regularily. They give almost every penny they have to their church and spend a rediculously large amount of time at their church, claiming to be "Strengthening their relationship with God". It has even gotten to the point where every "vacation" they take is a mission trip to a third world country to "Spread the word of God and save non-christians from an eternity in hell". Almost anytime during the summer when they are not on a "vacation" they are at a summer camp where they either are attending strange programs or "teaching" very, very young children about "The word of God". It's not just the psychological effects I am concerned with, but physical and academic effects as well. In the past year, I have seen their GPA drop a considerable full point seemingly as a direct result of their increased activity with their church. I have also seen people from their church become physically sick from these "fasting" periods. I won't pretend to understand why these people will go several days without eating, but they do. In conclusion, I am just wondering how I could approach this person in an effective manner to try and help them. Every other time when I've tried to approach them, they become a bit volatile (even when the conversation is completely on their terms). I am not against religion, but in this case it is not a healthy thing. Any advice would be much apreciated.
