Is. Mt. Olive Pickles no longer using High Fructose Corn Syrup?
Is Mt. Olive leaving 'High Fructose Corn Syrup' off its labels even though it is still in the product?
I recently finished off an old jar of Mt. Olive Kosher Dills and compared the ingredients label from the old jar to the new jar - I see that Mt. Olive is no longer listing 'High Fructose Corn Syrup' in the ingredients list. I tasted a pickle from both the new and old jar & they taste exactly the same. I am confused, especially since there is no replacement sweetener (ie, sugar) now listed on the new jar either. It is very hard to believe that Mt. Olive is now producing pickles that taste exactly the same without High Fructose Corn Syrup or other sweeteners.
I am wondering if this is intentional mislabeling?
3 AnswersOther - Food & Drink1 decade agocan I seal concrete floor after just cleaning it? or do I HAVE to polish it first?
My concrete floor is about 50 years old, has some great character (scrapes, stains, etc) and we'd like to just seal the floor with a wet look high-gloss concrete sealer. I am wondering if we can just apply the sealer after cleaning the floor very thoroughly ... or if we have to first polish / sand the concrete in order for it to work?
We like the appearance exactly as it is, don't want to sand out any imperfections if not necessary. Thanks.
7 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoWhy does my fruit juice list "0% Calcium" despite the fruits contained being sources of Calcium?
I am wondering why my carton of pineapple-orange-banana-apple juice lists "0% Calcium" on the nutrition panel despite the fact that all the fruits used within are sources of calcium?
Yes, it is made from real fruit juice (listed in the ingredients list) and it is NOT a flavored drink.
I'm now wondering if A) the calcium isn't listed so you'll be prompted to buy the 'fortified/enriched' juice, or B) the calcium is removed for some reason (if so, that would seem to me like robbing the juice of its natural properties & health benefits).
I'm attaching a link to calcium content of different fruits so you may see the facts on different fruit's calcium content: http://www.citracal.com/Calcium/Foods/Fruits-Juice...
Thanks for any light you can shed on this. Serious answers only.

I know that Vassar is a college, my question is what does it mean when someone calls you a Vassar girl & they know you did not attend Vassar college?
My 6th grade teacher used to call me "Vassar Girl" and today I ran across the term in an article, and it made me wonder what exactly it means (I had no luck trying to google "define: vassar girl")
3 AnswersWords & Wordplay1 decade agoWhat's up with this now-ubiquitous "I'm lovin' life" phrase?
1) What my question is NOT: I understand it obviously means that when someone utters the words "I'm lovin' life", they mean "I am loving my life."
2) What my question IS: Where did this trite statement come from? Did this statement originate from the McDonald's "i'm lovin' it" ad campaign? Can I safely assume that when a person says "I'm lovin' my life", they love it so much that they cannot be bothered to leave the "g" on the word "loving" (as in, I'm so happy I can't be bothered w/ proper English).
3) The reason I ask: It seems everyone updates, twitters, etc "lovin' my life" and I can't help but wonder how this catch phrase spread so quickly. Considering current events, economy, unemployment, etc I find it hard to believe that so many people are truly "lovin' their lives" with such relish across the board... to me it seems more like a mantra: "if I say I'm lovin' life enough times, I may convince even myself."

1 AnswerMedicine1 decade agoAm I supposed to recycle alkaline (AA, C, D, 9 Volt) batteries?
I've been saving my used batteries (before going rechargeable) and have been trying to find a local place to take them for recycling. (None of my usual local recycle places take them). I've been looking online for the answer to this question and stumbled upon a webpage for South Carolina that instructs me to just throw them out with my household garbage... this doesn't seem right, as at least the metal of the battery could be recycled.
I've observed South Carolina as being a wee bit behind the times in other arenas, and suspect this may be the case with my battery recycling issue. Here's the link that told me to just throw the batteries away: http://www.chasdoc.org/2006/documents/RECYCLING.pd...

Green Living1 decade agoWhy do people scream in car commercials?
In car commercials that obviously come from the manufacturer's marketing agency, the narrator speaks like a normal person, at a reasonable volume.... So why do dealership commercials always feature someone screaming at the top of their lungs, with a dog on the hood of a car, and some ridiculous gimmick like a superhero costume?
In other words, how can the dealership not observe the manufacturer's successful execution of commercial-making, and apply the same formula to appeal to a more sophisticated (and better-financed) audience?
4 AnswersOther - Society & Culture1 decade agoIs being conservative OR liberal an oxymoron?
The 'conservatives' that I know seem to not worry about: the money they spend, the energy they use, or how their actions affect the world at large (conservatives: liberal spending, liberal consumption, liberal actions).
The 'liberals' I know: recycle, conserve energy, don't eat meat, and are overly obsessed with how their actions affect the world (liberals: conserve resources, conserve life, conservative consumption, concerned about impact).
Why is it that the very description of both of these words negate the word itself? What is the reason these words (conservative, liberal) are used to describe the opposite action?
(ps- the question set forth does not necessarily reflect the views of the author... this is just a question that came up in conversation).
